(USA Today)   McDonald's food chain may soon start with a toxic gas emission instead of just ending with one   (usatoday.com) divider line 101

Their food still sucks.

man, I was hoping they'd slip some Argon Whip-its into their happy meals. But look how easily they handed a steaming cup of STFU to Peta. Next window, please.
*and yes, I know Argon is non-toxic*

Which raises the question: Does this mean McDonalds is going to start putting chicken in the McNuggets?

Mmmmm....beaky goodness.

"There has been very little study of this process as to impact on animal welfare,"

The animal is going to die. How exactly to they think that will impact their welfare?

2004-12-30 04:35:19 PM
It would replace a slaughtering process in which chickens are hung by their legs on a moving conveyor line and pulled through an electrified vat of water.

are you farking kidding me? that's the coolest thing i've ever heard!

2004-12-30 05:52:24 PM
Oh good grief, whatever happened to the good ole "chop off their heads and watch 'em run around" method? My parents killed the chickens that way.

2004-12-30 06:15:06 PM
Wow, the article mentions PETA, but the headline doesn't. Too, bad, nothing drives a thread to infinity faster than a headline with PETA or Michael Moore.

Gobbles!

It makes dying more fun, like Auschwitz.

I concur. Why change something already perfectly hilarious?

'Bout time. It doesn't take a vegetarian to wish for a painless and efficient method of slaughtering food animals.

I like my meat, but I don't want it to suffer.

2004-12-30 07:10:11 PM
Another fan of the electric water vat method of chicken killing.

I think a lot of people would be down with that. I want videos.

2004-12-30 07:11:17 PM
All chickens vill report to zee McDonald's showering fazilities. Please remoof your feazers und sit down!

Now who else thinks gassing one's food is a little odd?

"Yes, I'd like that lobster. Yes.. yes, the one right there. ... Excuse me? Oh yes, please gas my lobster before cruelly dumping it into boiling water. Uh, yes, I'll have the argon."

/wtf???

This is a 12-story block combining classical neo-Georgian features with the efficiency of modern techniques. The chickens arrive here and are carried along the corridor on a conveyor belt in extreme comfort, past murals depicting Mediterranean scenes, towards the rotating knives. The last twenty feet of the corridor are heavily soundproofed. The blood pours down these chutes and the mangled flesh slurps into these...

I think animals should be treated ethically, but focusing on helping endangered species would be a more productive use of PETA's time. You can't, after all, ethically treat an extinct animal.

McDonald's animal welfare council suggested a study of the newer method, said Bob Langert, McDonald's senior director of social responsibility. It would replace a slaughtering process in which chickens are hung by their legs on a moving conveyor line and pulled through an electrified vat of water.

So THATS how they make the new crispy chicken strips ....

Animals have more rights than humans now. We get electric chairs and lethal injections.

I like my chicken dead and deep fried.

PETA sux

Hang on - suffocation is supposed to be more humane than a stun that renders them insensate then suffocation?

2004-12-30 07:27:46 PM
This is more humane? We've giving them the same treatment we give our worst mass murderers!

The chickens deserve better!

If you haven't seen it yet, watch Penn & Teller's "Bullshiat" series on Showtime (or find it on P2P, if you don't have cable, like me). The whole series is excellent; I just bought Season 1 on DVD from Showtime's website for $40.

Anyhow... they expose PETA for the hypocritical, lunatic asshats they are in season 2, episode 1. Well worth your time to locate and watch.

2004-12-30 07:42:03 PM
I like my chicken killed the old fashioned way.. take two or three of them, liquor them up and put them behind the wheels of toy cars filled with hickory, applewood, and cherrywood. Let em drive and nature takes its course. Havent met one yet that can outdrink me.

2004-12-30 07:44:25 PM
Why bother with the "controlled atmosphere" euphemism is you're going to end the term in "killing" anyway?

Go with either gassed to death or controlled atmosphere life extinguishing process. That moderate, fence sitting shiat just don't cut it.

2004-12-30 07:48:38 PM
P.E.T.A.

People Eating Tastey Animals maybe?

When did humans have to fall off the food chain just because someone didn't like seeing an animal die to feed us?

Where I live there's room for all of God's creatures.....

On our plates right next to the potatoes and veggies.

2004-12-30 07:57:44 PM
I would think that a pure environment of any gas other than oxygen would asphyxiate fairly quickly. Nitrogen would be pretty quick. Argon might kinda 'spensive.

2004-12-30 08:02:42 PM
Use gas to kill chickens? I just choke mine.

2004-12-30 08:06:14 PM
It would replace a slaughtering process in which chickens are hung by their legs on a moving conveyor line and pulled through an electrified vat of water.

This is very humane. It gives them that James Bond like chance of getting out of the diabolical yet incredibly drawn out method of killing them. The only way it could be better would be by using henchmen with really bad aim to shoot at them as they run across a catwalk.

2004-12-30 08:12:21 PM
...so my choice is "or death?"

if God didn't intend for us to eat animals he wouldn't have made them out of meat...or shaped cows like steaks.

2004-12-30 08:48:07 PM
The most humane way to kill any animal is nitrogen poisoning. Plus in the case of Humans, it renders every organ ripe for donation (that is, it doesn't harm any).

2004-12-30 08:48:52 PM
Oh and if your nitrogen chamber leaks, no biggie. It won't kill anyone else you're really stupid about it.

2004-12-30 08:55:33 PM
If PETA are advocating this, I'm betting that they're advocating it just so that they can distribute leaflets with "nugget macht frei" on them.

2004-12-30 09:05:32 PM
Rediculous. Death is death. Some vegan freak who I met that was insistient that cows were "no different from people" asked me if I'ed like it if sombody ate me.

I replied: "I wouldn't care, I'ed be dead!"
