What was the cow driving?

The cow died. Let's have a moment of silence and lift a steak in the cow's memory.

"A Charlton man was cited for having loose livestock."

The judge let him off with a warning after he promised to send his heard to finishing school.

"Loose livestock"
Cmon, it's a cow.
You want tight you need a sheep.
Every Mainer knows that.
2004-12-30 12:28:25 PM
In many places it used to be if you were driving on a public road and hit a farmer's livestock, you had to reimburse him for what you killed. Maybe it's still on the books in some places. Doubt if it applies to Interstates, though.

show me

Those are called "open range" states. They still exist in the West.

I submitted a story (that was rejected) about a guy who let his cows roam and was charged with manslaughter after a driver crashed into one.
2004-12-30 01:13:54 PM
I got stuck in the traffic jam caused by this. Missed the first two trains out of Worcester. When I got up to where the truck was, there was nothing left but a burnt box. The cab was completely gone. Still trying to figure that one out. All I saw was some twisted frame and a huge pile of gray ash. It looked like the cab caught fire and burned down to nothing. Any other Masspike commuters see that, or was it just way too early for me? This was about 6:25 this morning.

The traffic reports say there are long rubbernecking backups in both directions, currently eight miles eastbound and three miles westbound.

The crash was very near a service plaza. Fresh beef at McDonalds today?

"your car wants leather seats"
2004-12-30 03:31:03 PM
Wow. What a moo-ving story. Living in MA, I'm surprised this is the first I've herd of this accident.
2004-12-30 03:32:23 PM
"State police say the cow was owned by a Charlton man who may be cited for having loose livestock."

Interestingly, just last week the same man was praised for having loose daughters.
2004-12-30 03:32:34 PM
he should've moooved to the side
2004-12-30 03:33:51 PM

What the hell was Rosie O'Donnell doing out on the Mass Pike anyways ?

Oh, nevermind.

Maybe the cow will be charged with a loin violation. I veal for the driver who was killed. A reporter interviewed his neighbors and they said he was a nice guy and that he had no beef with anyone.
2004-12-30 03:35:11 PM

that looks like one very, very mad cow
2004-12-30 03:35:46 PM
A friend of mine got on the pike around 8 and was there when police and ambulances were still arriving. He called me and said it was the worst accident he had ever seen. There were cow parts and guts all over the highway.

That's udder nonsense.
2004-12-30 03:36:43 PM
Gah, I give up.
2004-12-30 03:37:13 PM
If the cow was "loose" wouldn't it have been on the street corner and not in the middle of the road?

/Got nothin'
2004-12-30 03:37:26 PM

I'm serious, no bull.
2004-12-30 03:37:31 PM
I'm not sure the amusing tag fits here considering one of the drivers was killed.

..your commuters want steak...

/it fails
2004-12-30 03:39:19 PM
My buddy from Oxford is coming to visit today. No wonder why he's late. We usually get on Rt.20 in Charlton and get on 84S to Connecticut.

This is the 2nd time on Fark when I know exactly where something happened.

Not that anybody cares.
2004-12-30 03:39:23 PM
BTW, why the slow news day here on Fark? (And the nasty tease of a whole whack of new links appearing, then vanishing in seconds.)

Admins start New Year's Eve festivities early?

2004-12-30 03:41:43 PM
I've got moo babe.
2004-12-30 03:42:16 PM
It's is just awful when an innocent person has to roast like that. I'm sure when he left his home that morning, he did not think that his life would be at steak. But you have to wonder why he the guy didn't steer around the situation.

Anyway, I'm sorry that this gu's life ground (beef) to a halt.

/I'm lame.
2004-12-30 03:42:47 PM
The cow should be cited for moov-ing violations. it would be-hoove her to get out of the road.
2004-12-30 03:43:05 PM
Alfredo Latorre, the driver who was killed, was a friend of a friend. farking hilarious. Can't think of a better use for the "amusing" tag.
2004-12-30 03:43:29 PM

The bovines are rising up! They're out to kill us all!
2004-12-30 03:44:11 PM
Hindus surrender?

/Got less than nothin'
2004-12-30 03:45:29 PM
Who are you calling "cow"? They are bostonians, not cows!
2004-12-30 03:47:07 PM
Cows that for mayhem? Hieffer a little compassion though. Thats bo vine way to make your final exit. No bull!
2004-12-30 03:47:35 PM
Well, I just hope everyone is willing to let go of the sacred cow's and work to resolve this situation. I don't mean to sound like a bull-y, but something needs to be done. However, I'm sure someone will try to milk this for all it's worth.

/I am lamer.

Cruisin down the motorway
got my girl by my side.
We're both a little anxious,
Barbeque on our minds.
Waiting, anticipating,
for some cattle to make a roast.
I swear we were doin' eighty
when we saw cow spots up close.

And we were cooking into the night
Cooking into the night...

Sox fans STILL celebrating?
2004-12-30 03:53:47 PM
in the Worcester Telegram there was a pic of the truck post-crash. there wasn't much left. from the article - "the crash impact was so intense that state police initialy could not find one of the drivers and looked for him amid the debris."

/once witnessed a head-on collision between a semi and passenger car doing about 55 mph. not a good thing. can still remember the sound of it.
