Kia Spectra safety specs. Its a short list.

2004-12-20 12:12:03 PM
Woo-hoo, my Elantra rated good. I feel safer already.

/still kinda misses his old Volvo, it was like a tank.

2004-12-20 12:14:05 PM
oh good my '90 daewoo is still cool.

2004-12-20 12:31:23 PM
i have a friend who owned a 2 kia's she got into an accident with each one the car looked like an accordian, why she had 2 of them i really dont know..

2004-12-20 12:37:03 PM
Sparky: If she lived thru 2 accidents where each car looked like an accordian, and she lived, that sounds pretty good.

2004-12-20 12:56:35 PM
Interesting that this corroborates the bottom line that more than other variables, what matters most to safety is how well made a vehicle is. The Previa was also a deathtrap for frontal accidents before they fixed it up. Good design matters, and can save your hide.

2004-12-20 01:04:09 PM
Wow, I just realized I added a redundant "and she lived" to my statement. Whoops.

/Me flunk english? Thats unpossible!

Cars are supposed to look like accordions after they've been in a major wreck. If they don't absorb the impact energy, your body does.

2004-12-20 01:06:29 PM
But Kia still sucks.

2004-12-20 02:42:06 PM
What I want to know is how they managed to get a Kia moving at 65 kilometers per hour?

/maybe they had a mule pulling it

2004-12-20 03:50:52 PM
I know a guy who has a Kia and loves it.

And by "guy" I mean "girl" and by "Kia" I mean "Honda Civic".

2004-12-20 04:18:15 PM
I've always said KIA is short for Kill in Automobile (accident)

They are rolling coffins...

Big Tuna
exactly... Giant energy damping areas...
Now compare a crumple zone of a Fleetwood...

2004-12-20 04:47:29 PM
was a moose involved in this?

The crash test dummy received "injuries" to its head, chest and legs.

I always suspected that anyone who could write the 'Hmmmmm' song would have had to suffer some head trauma.

2004-12-20 04:50:02 PM
i like the headline.

2004-12-20 04:51:25 PM

"In a statement, Kia Motors America Inc. said it had met with the institute to discuss how to improve the car's performance."

2004-12-20 04:52:59 PM
reps on the headline. I had a good chuckle.

2004-12-20 04:55:30 PM
My buddy has a Kia and everytime I have to ride in it I feel like the toy..er..car is going to brake in half.

2004-12-20 04:55:46 PM
kia..is.good...

2004-12-20 04:56:54 PM
Mine was better

Yeah I'll bet she's got some chedda. And I don't mean 'Bling'

I guess whatever helps.

Speak for yourself. I miss my 84 olds. That thing would slice through just about anything short of a semi. You wouldn't even notice smashing into a kia if you werent paying attention.

I had an ex girlfriend who had a newer cavalier. I'm sitting at a red light and someone taps me from behind. I'd say they were doing maybe 10mph when they hit me. Almost 2 grand in damage.

Insurance? Psssshhhh.......

Here's an idea, dont get into an accident! Idiots.......

I think the problem with the 'Fark Personal Chicks' is the hotties they have on the other t-shirt adverts. Nobody in the personal ads will measure up to those hot t-shirt chicks.

2004-12-20 05:01:47 PM
This is why you never buy a car named KIA.

I rented a high end kia (if there is such a thing) with the v6 and all the kit you can think of... decent drive and it looked good enough. That said close up the parts are cheap, and some of the plastic stuff was starting to break; this was an '04 too.
anyway this model sounds like a pile of crap.

Actual security not included. Void where prohibited.

Great headline! Quite a laugher!

The last car to get a poor rating in the test was the Chevrolet Cavalier in 2001.

Crap.

/Has an '03 and lives near 2 malls during Christmas season. Hope they fixed whatever has been wrong.

Killed In Action should tip you off.

Which one did you have?

I absolutely LOVE my wife's 1984 Delta 88 Custom Cruiser. I loved it so much, I bought myself a 1983 Ninety-Eight. (That one I didn't love so much, but I sold it for what I paid for it.)

These things are TANKS (see earlier thread for stories of Ninety-Eight offroad). They are ultra comfortable and in the case of the wagon, insanely useful. While moving to our new apartment, we filled it full of stuff in the back and three people across the front. Then, after unloading, the whole moving crew piled in and we went to dinner. They are fairly reliable (good old Olds 307) and cheap as hell to fix when they do break.

There is nothing quite like having a big expendible car, a lead foot, and a smile on your face.

If you think that looks bad, take a look at this:

We own 1 2003 Kia Spectra and 1 2001 Chevy Cavalier

they must have saw us coming.

I drink/smoke/phone in both.

2004-12-20 05:14:37 PM
It's still probably safer than anything comprable from Ford or GM. Something about major recalls involving wheels randomly flying off make me kind of nervous.

2004-12-20 05:15:45 PM
I drive a 2003 Kia Rio, and I bought it for the:
1)Low price
2)Great warranty (5 years/100,000km)
3)Pretty good gas mileage (averaging about 36mpg)

Overall, after 45,000km, it's still going pretty good...and I can't say I have any major complaints. If I ever get in an accident with it, I may change my mind...but as of yet, it's all good.

2004-12-20 05:16:31 PM
"The Kia Spectra received the U.S. insurance industry's worst safety rating in a frontal crash test, becoming the first vehicle to get the "poor" rating in three years."

Perhaps we need stricter tests then? People are still dying in accidents...

mysticcat:
I love how they list crap that is pretty much standard in any car you drive as a feature. Like there is something special about child a seat anchoring system... It's a farking metal clip attached to your trunk. For the $0.06 manufacturing cost they had better put one in!

Ohh, and this illustration of a Kia with ABS gives me great comfort I will have control of my vehicle at all times.
