this will only be cool if Politically Incorrect moves to HBO. god, I love that show.

2002-03-01 02:42:53 PM
and dave just really hasn't been funny since he quit drinking.

2002-03-01 02:43:14 PM
Has ABC got a better dental plan?

2002-03-01 02:44:11 PM
ok, ok... hasn't been THAT funny since he quit drinking.

hello? ... hello?

echo! ... echo!

2002-03-01 02:44:22 PM
I used to watch him every night. OK, I used to worship Dave. Maybe I shouldn't have, because his jokes got really predictable and unfunny, and I haven't watched but maybe once or twice in the last 6-7 years. Oh well, maybe a move would breathe some new life into it or some other weenie cliche like that.

ok, ok... hasn't been THAT funny since he quit drinking. jay leno suck-diddly-ucks.

hello? ... hello?

echo! ... echo!

whoops, echo indeed

If you haven't seen the show in the SIX OR SEVEN YEARS, maybe you shouldn't critique it.

2002-03-01 02:49:02 PM
Letterman is much better than Leno for sure (Leno's person on the street questioning gag is so tired. So you give the stupidest person you find a question to answer. Big deal.)

Bill Maher was awesome when his show was on cable. Network tv is too restrictive for him. Shold've stayed on Comedy Channel.

Ted Koppel ? He's ok. But after watching 11pm news, I don't want to see any more news. Bye Koppel.

Top ten reasons to move Late Night to ABC

10 ) money.

9) money.

8).....

PS Carson Daly's new show blows chunks. Glad Tara Reid dumped you.

2002-03-01 02:49:05 PM
Maybe at ABC he can find some new writers that can write a funny monologue for a change.

2002-03-01 02:50:50 PM
so what's the hat trick? Madden, Letterman and who?

2002-03-01 02:50:54 PM
Late night TV has sucked for about 15 years. Bah, good riddance.

2002-03-01 02:51:19 PM
I stopped watching TV when I left for college. When i was over at a friend's house I got to see Leno during the New Years countdown. I can't believe how unfunny he is. Letterman's funny but he doesn't have triumph or the masturbating bear.

2002-03-01 02:55:59 PM
H-Town:

so what's the hat trick? Madden, Letterman and who?

*sigh*... NBC, CBS, ABC. Hat Trick.

2002-03-01 02:57:16 PM
Better yet, move him to LOS ANGELES too. Better guests in LA.

2002-03-01 02:57:16 PM
bashildy, you forgot the gaseous weiner

2002-03-01 02:59:45 PM
Letterman lost it as soon as he left NBC. Maybe it was the writers because Conan O'Brien has the best late night show on TV. All 3 late shows have terrible monologues, including Conan, but Conan has the goofy skits to make up for it. Leno gets the best guests so Dave is just a very mediocre late show..

2002-03-01 03:01:46 PM
i don't get the hat trick thing either.. if letterman moves to abc, how does cbs fall into the hat trick mix?

Hmm, it's a tough call. I don't think he's been all that bad since moving to ABC. Of course, I can't say I've seen every episode, either, so I could be wrong. I need to start watching that show every night again.

2002-03-01 03:08:15 PM
I cannot believe you guys don't get the hat-trick thing.

Anyway, I'm surprised ABC is considering this. Doesn't Nightline win the ratings slot? Obviously, I could be way off base here. Besides, why piss off Koppel?

I agree with Mrdark - Leno is just putrid. I love that Carson went on Dave's new show on CBS but wouldn't go on the Tonight Show...classic!

2002-03-01 03:09:10 PM
conan o'brien is the farking man

...for me to poop on!

I bet you didn't see that coming.

2002-03-01 03:10:05 PM
HELLO... if Letterman moves to ABC that means he will have collected enormously oversize paychecks from ALL 3 MAJOR NETWORKS.

2002-03-01 03:13:59 PM
"Leno's program has consistently topped Letterman's "Late Show" in the ratings."

Actually, I'm pretty sure there was an extended period in the mid-90's when Letterman was beating Leno; this came to an end not long after his Oscars debacle.

2002-03-01 03:17:22 PM
I can't believe people willingly watch Politically Incorrect.

I can't stand even THINKING about Bill Maher.

Although it was pretty cool when they had The Nuge on there.

2002-03-01 03:18:27 PM
I don't care as long as Conan takes the earlier CBS slot, or the one on fox.

2002-03-01 03:23:58 PM
This is a negotiation ploy. Letterman will stay at CBS.

Letterman is the true king of late night. Leno simply is a fine stand up, but a lousy host -- Conan is good, but no Letterman; Bill Maher, well he's just a pig.

By the way Bad_CRC, Conan is staying where he is, he just re-upped with NBC for another several years.

2002-03-01 03:30:34 PM
Whens the last time good old Jay actually said something even partly funny? Maybe about 3 weeks before he sold his comedic soul to the network brass at NBC... doling out third-rate wink-wink innuendo and lukewarm puns about our country like we all live in his giant moth-eaten jolly joke bag. Hes a creep, people. Hes Don Rickles with a big chin.

2002-03-01 03:30:39 PM
Conan just signed a 4-year extention with NBC. That's a shame too... I'd love to see a Letterman-Conan lineup on either CBS or ABC.

2002-03-01 03:34:11 PM
Ratings-wise, Letterman was beating Leno until Leno had Hugh Grant on. Then, after Dave's "massive heart attack", he took the lead back from Leno. Of course, his ratings got a boost after his masterful post-9/11 show.

2002-03-01 04:25:16 PM
Simply put, Letterman is the Man. I will follow him to any network. The upside of this whole melee is that for a while no one was sure if Letterman even wanted to continue being on TV; but now that he's being courted, the chances are even better we'll continue to get our "daily dose of Dave" far into the future.

2002-03-01 04:25:48 PM
I think that it's funny that no one has mentioned Craig Kilborn in all of this. He doesnt even seem to be a factor in late night. Man, does he ever suck since leaving The Daily Show.

2002-03-01 04:29:46 PM
It says that ABC News is going to go to battle with ABC for this. Is this going to be on Pay-per-view. Ted "Caveman" Koppel enters the ring...!

I would love to see that.

I only watch Kilborn if Conan is a repeat or not on for some reason (Olympic break.) He's ok, but Conan is much better.

Letterman is about a billion times better than what Leno could even dream of being. Leno sucks. I only turn Leno during guest interviews on Letterman I don't care for.

My preference of late night shows is:

1. Conan
2. Letterman
3. Kilborn
4. Dog shiat
5. Leno
6. Root canal
7. Anything on Lifetime
8. Bill Maher

2002-03-01 04:37:36 PM
Craig Kilborn has the best music guests, I think his show is pretty funny too.

2002-03-01 04:58:49 PM
Everyone wants the early time slot. But, Letterman has sucked (in comparrison to his NBC days) since he moved to the earlie time slot on CBS. True, he still teabags Leno's no-talent ass, but he has sucked if you were to compare him to his old self.

Conan moving to an earlier slot would suck too. In their quest to gather the larger (more mainstream) audience, they are forced to give up the truly inspired, off-the-wall comedy bits that make you bust up when you're suffering from an extra hour of sleep depravity.

2002-03-01 05:00:43 PM
Oh, and if CBS loses Dave, they need to get Pat Sajak back on the phone.

2002-03-01 05:03:40 PM
And if CBS knew what was right they'd fire former SportsCenter anchor Craig Kilborn and hire current SportsCenter anchor Kenny "Remember the" Mayne.

2002-03-01 05:05:50 PM
And some network NEEDS to bring back The Bobby Heenan Show.

TLBreer: exactly.

2002-03-01 05:16:20 PM
I don't care who moves where, just get Bill Maher off the air. I hated him as a 'comic'. I hate him as a host.

2002-03-01 05:17:49 PM
I think either you are a Letterman person, or you're not. If you watch the show, and you see the humor when he says the same thing over and over and when he works those two attractive escorts into every sketch and when he talks to people like Rupert Ji or Stephanie, and you understand why the audience claps every two seconds, you're a Letterman person. If it all just seems random and unfunny, then you're not, so just turn back to Leno with his jokes about Viagra and bodily fluids.

Ratingswise, Letterman kicked ass right after his move to CBS, but once Leno got ahead he's been ahead ever since, by a good margin. In response to Leno's "#1 In Late Night" billboard a few years ago, Letterman put up a "#3 in Late Night" board down the street.

I don't want Letterman to switch from CBS, because then he wouldn't be able to have such fun mocking it.

2002-03-01 05:26:36 PM
Um, so what the hell happened to Conan's website at NBC. Now all the shows look the same and NO click comedy. THAT SUCKS. I would browse through Actual Items and laugh my ass off for hours, but now its all gone!!! Who is responsible.

NBC's Late Night with Conan O'Brian

The Letterman Problem (IHMO)--

Cranky Young Man == Funny
Cranky Old Man (using 20-year-old schtick) == Boring

Long live Conan!

2002-03-01 05:32:02 PM
Conan is the Red-headed god of late night.

2002-03-01 05:35:40 PM
Anybody remember the Late Nite Crash Cam?

I miss that.

2002-03-01 05:53:24 PM
TLBreer - "...sleep depravity"? I like it!

2002-03-01 06:06:40 PM
Seriously, I wonder how much of the late night shows laughs come from being tired.

I wonder how funny it'd be if you taped them and watched them in the middle of the afternoon.

2002-03-01 06:37:52 PM
i call late night t.v. ... TiVo, now that's where it's at

2002-03-01 07:56:48 PM
This is probably just a bunch of smoke... whenever contracts come up, someone floats a rumor to make the current network uptight, and fork out some bigger dough. Dave would still find plenty to ßitch about at ABC. But at least he wouldn't have to quiz those annoying Survivor losers.

Anyone ever see "The Late Shift" (that the title?), the saga of the late night wars way back? Pretty fun stuff. Enjoyed Jay's ex-and-dead-manager Helen Kushnick regularly ripping TV execs new ones.

I do remember the crash-cam. Also remember Dave's "monkey cam", with Zippy the Chimp. Excellent television. "Zippy, can I get you a bushpig?"
