I'm with lexingtonienne, on every point she made.

Those of you with the thought and compassion to give your point of views without judgment -- whatever way you lean -- have my thanks for an enlightening and interesting conversation.

However, I do have a soft spot for humour of any kind, so we'll go a little shady on point #6. A bunch of you are sick, sick people, but that's what makes Fark great. (*coughs*)

As a St. Louisan, I'd like to note that I have no idea where Skidmore, Missouri is.

This kind of stuff just confirms to me that there really are demons amongst us. I'm sorry, but I don't see how any human could possibly do something like this.

"At 2:30 p.m., the mother called her daughter to have her come and get her at work and there were also some people from Fairfax that were going to come and look at a dog, and that's what that conversation was going to end up being about. 'They're here, mom to look at this dog,'" Espey said at a news conference Friday.

Can someone translate that into english?

Apt use of the "SICK" title. (Apt, I tell you, APT!)

Unfortunately I can't think of a good enough punishment for the perp should he/she be caught. Something involving a cheese grater and their anus, to be sure, but that's all I got.

Actually, they are encoded in a Dan Brown novel.

Would jarhead and chains ever get laid if weren't for the sluts of this world? Do they really want one of these women to have their children?

chains: WOW!!! Pretty LOW numbers for health reasons. The ones above are just irresponsible!

I don't understand. Do you mean it would be irresponsible to have a child when presented with one of the situations given? Or, do you mean it would be irresponsible to not have the child when presented with one of those situations?

Because, if it's the first, you're stating the obvious. If it's the second, you're really not making any sense.

Anyhow, yeah -- I agree with 99.9% of America on this one. Abortions are probably wrong, but probably should not be illegal. If that doesn't describe you, you're part of a small, radical minority, and should STFU. The rest of America was done with this issue 30 years ago.

Also, this article has nothing to do with abortion.

The main problem I have with anti-abortion activist is the almost none of them give a damn what happens to the child in the fourth trimester and beyond. All they do is complain about welfare moms. You can't have it both ways. If you personally have adopted one or more children, I'll listen to your views vs abortion. Otherwise, STFU.

If someone had killed a pregnant woman, but not taken out the fetus and instead left it in utero (where, presumably, it couldn't survive long), would that be more or less sick than killing the mother and taking the child?

2004-12-17 02:31:18 PM
The oddest thing about the McElroy story and this one is not that it's the same town (and probably some of the same people). The oddest thing is that after 25 years, they still have the same Sheriff: Espey.

2004-12-17 02:33:39 PM
Hurhurhurhurhur!

The headline has the word fetus in it, so let's argue about abortion!

Oh yeah. Satanic cult. No doubt about it. Satanic cult or white slavers. What a crazy story.

BTW- whoever said this earlier was right, this kind of thing is more common than you may think. Quite a few babies get switched, mislabeled or outright stolen in maternity wards. I hope the poor baby is ok, and that it lives a long and healthy life.

2004-12-17 02:40:50 PM
Nope, looks like I got it wrong. The current sheriff is Espey. The one 25 years ago was Estes.

not going to get back into the whole thing now other than to say iadiadiad... and who are you accusing of making those statistics up? You may just want to read one p0st, and ignore the previous ones where sources were linked.... You could also use common sense on that one anyway, and come pretty close to the actual statistics.

Someone illuded to this earlier.

Skidmore, MO is a small farming town. It was made "famous" by a murder more than 20 years ago.

http://www.findmall.com/cgi-bin/forums/royal_tales/royal.pl?noframes;read=1014 1

I'll tell you one thing (living in a community about the same) the people that did this were probably known by her as well as the townspeople. The description of the car is vague (as if pulled out of a hat), and no one saw three people (strangers) in the community? When a strange car and strangers enter a small community, I assure you people see them, notice them and wonder what they are doing there. It's not a mean thing, or to be nosy. It's a cultural thing.

My guess is that there was no car, and no strangers. It's someone from the community, that no one would have noticed walking in and out of that house.

if you are discouraged about the number of complete morons in the world I'd think you'd be pro-abortion. It is my belief that abortions should be available up until the 75th trimester (I believe that is their 18th birthday). I think it is more tragic to put a juvenile into jail than to eliminate something with no stake in reality yet. An 18 year old has formed significant attachments, has a history and future potential. While the unborn has unlimited potential they have no attachment or investment. Their potential is unlimited in both good and evil ways. Fully formed people are treated worse than children because of some sort of misconception that all kids are good thing. Fark that. Start learning to treat adults with curtesy before getting all up in arms about there bratty little whelps.

2004-12-17 03:01:45 PM

Hey, I'm pro-choice (anti-life? lol), so I'll put that at the start. But some of you anti-choice (pro-life)'ers might want to consider this:

God/nature (whatever your personal belief) is responsible for aborting nearly 70% of conceptions. As with most things in the world, us petty humans cannot compete with the natural process. Conception is far from perfect.

Because of abnormalities, nature has aborted about 55% of all fertilized eggs by this point [the second week of gestation]. Another 12% or more will spontaneously abort sometime after.

Source: Childbirth by Choice www.cbctrust.com ... admittedly, not the best source, but I'm fairly sure it's accurate, given my brother's description from med school. I'm too busy at work to get a textbook source, but feel free to refute with better sources.

2004-12-17 03:05:22 PM

Sorry, found a better source. Stanford.edu, http://mednews.stanford.edu/stanmed/2004fall/young.html

Even after implantation, spontaneous abortions can occur. In the normal course of human reproduction, about 60 percent of embryos spontaneously abort and are simply flushed in the course of the menstrual cycle.

ResinMonkey Obviously you're not a parent huh? You think I'm gonna lock her out of the room while I check my email, fark, and a few other sites? Like most 4 year-old, she's mobile and walks into view of the computer occasionally, which is why I don't surf for porn or anything else she shouldn't see while she's in the house.

The only thing that I have to add to this:

Chains:
You are so far farking off topic, that you deserve to be banninated from this topic. Get a brain, moran.

rabair
so, by that logic Adman12, can someone kill you then if they believe that you only exist in their mind?

Well, they might have something to say about it. They're sentient too. However, my logic does apply to unplugging people in a vegetative state with no hope of recovery. Effectively, they are no longer there.

2004-12-17 03:12:48 PM

And just so I don't go into off-topic irrelevance (of which, admittedly, I am often guilty), this story appears legit (according to GoogleNews) and is very, very sad. Because it apparently involved a live birth, I am not sure what abortion has to do with this.

In any event, this is a tragedy, and saddens me incredibly. People often suck.

2004-12-17 03:14:37 PM
And by "they" I mean the person being killed. (I wanted to make this philosophical, not personal.)

2004-12-17 03:19:56 PM
Any form of killing is bad. Abortion is killing. No way around that.

2004-12-17 03:26:31 PM
Last time I saw this happen was the Chicago incident, which was the worst thing I had ever heard of. Newt Gingrich mentioned it on the House floor two days later and actually blamed the Democrats for the crime, because of the expansion of welfare and erosion of moral values they were responsible for.

2004-12-17 03:26:40 PM

I'm not sure that anybody thinks that abortion is good, HyperX, but clearly some forms of killings are allowable/justified. Defence of self, defence of others, unavoiadable accident, etc.

Clearly, while most people would not argue that killing is bad, there's a continuum of 'acceptability' given the circumstances. Where exactly that line is drawn is a personal choice. Some see euthanasia as humane and perfectly acceptable (though ideally, killing old people is bad if that person really wants to die and will do so painfully in any event, that can be seen as the individual's choice), some see limited abortion as acceptable (i.e. health of mother), some see all abortion as acceptable (i.e. the woman's right to control the next nine months of her own body). For some, it's not even about killing, because of the belief that life does not form until the fetus is viable.

Regardless, it's pretty hard to sway people on where they stand on that line.

Ok, Adman12:
To me, a fetus' humanity exists solely in the minds of its parents.
How would you go about legislating this? If they end up finding the perps in this case, and the baby is dead, could he/she defend him/herself by proving that the mother did not want the baby?

Ah, good point. But, I think I've been pretty clear in saying that I see the third trimester as a different case. One could probably assume a pregnancy allowed to continue that long was wanted, and unless a case of severe defect or health risk (or other extreme mitigating circumstance) I wouldn't support abortion at that point. I see the fetus as pretty much a baby after about 20 weeks, reacting to stimulus and with higher brain functions.

I'm not a member of any pro-choice political organization, so outside of any group politics, I can say that I do see a difference in humanity between the externally viable and non-viable fetus.

Yeep - I live here and KC and they just announced they have the baby and two suspects. Too bad for mom, but I guess the baby girl is healthy and should be OK.

2004-12-17 04:25:19 PM
Really, the perps need to be tried for more than just murder. Maybe attempted murder on the baby because they endangered its life by forcing it into the world prematurely. Sick, sick, sick farks.

2004-12-17 04:29:43 PM
The funny thing about most people who want to force women to give birth to their baby is that they are also the ones against any sort of social welfare that would help that mother and child once it is born.
