Hey Hippies!
Communism sucks! Give people a chance, and they will vote with their feet every time.

Not ironic. She'd been living in the U.S. for 11 years.

Lots of people's granddaughters become US citizens. Even Khrushchev's kid is a US citizen. Although, I don't think he's anyone's granddaughter, not that there's anything wrong with that.

How is this ironic if Fidel Castro likes the USA. That's right, he likes the USA. He always has. He just doesn't like the leadership of the country and how the US leaders have treated him badly just because he was communist.

A few years ago the Baltimore Orioles played against a Cuban team both in the US and in Cuba and Castro showed then that he liked what America stands for (well, in principle at least) which is Freedom and Justice for all.

2004-12-16 07:07:14 PM
Well, if you RTFA, you'll see that it sounds more like a personal problem with ole fidel than a typical case of "communism sucks"

/communism does suck
//dispite how nice he is when scorsese interviews him, Fidel's still a bit of an a-hole, quite likely
(though i've never met him). I mean, their marriage must've gone pretty sour. then again, even if their break up was civil, life may have been miserable in Cuba being Castro's ex-biatch and all.

2004-12-16 07:10:08 PM

which is why he's a dictator that imprisons political prisoners. Just because they're not communist.

2004-12-16 07:22:12 PM
Sandelaphon ...just because they're not communist

More because they tried to undermine the system of government in Cuba, or were Bastista sympathisers, or didn't much like Mister Castro. Still not the best of reasons for locking them up, but there is a distinction.

If a few more countries would just up and trade with them, they'd be doing alright.

I'm going to tell all of you a secret: Fidel Castro is dead. Castro and the Pope both died years ago, but in order to keep the masses in line, they're propped up by professional handlers like in "Weekend at Bernie's". You didn't hear (or read) this from me, though.

wtf? so when he sent all his worst prisoners, the Marielitos (sp?)on the boats with the refugees in the 80s they were a present or what?
yes, he did it on purpose, he didnt want the murderers in his country and hey! the US wasnt turning the refugees away!
one of these guys murdered the gas station attendent near my old house in the early 90s. Castro is just the worlds nicest guy....sends us murderers...and all those political prisoners he imprisons and kills, im sure they appreciate it too....
just my 2 cents worth...

Ever notice that the people who think Communism/socialism is great don't have to live under it?

Ever notice how right-wingers always conflate Communism and socialism, when in fact they are two different things?

I don't think anyone would care to call Canada and Sweden Communist, although both are quite socialist. Therefore, when liberals argue in favor of a more socialized US, this is not ipso facto an argument for Communism, although the righties sure want you to think it is.

2004-12-16 07:26:37 PM
Sandelaphon I'm sorry, I must have stumbled into a world where the USA does not imprison people for political reasons, brazenly in contravention of the Geneva convention!

In my world, people hate your country for your blindness! I hope to take this message back to my people in my own dimensions. Best of luck with your war with Eurasia!
