Golf clap for the headline. Good to start my day off with a laugh.

Pope condemns violence, but with the right donation you'll be forgiven and go to heaven.

worst. religion. evar.

Does that include diddling little boys?

2004-12-16 11:37:04 AM
Wow, it only took three comments for someone to mention pedophilia.

Do you, um, know ANYTHING about Catholicism? And don't tell me you were raised Catholic, because even if you were and you aren't one anymore, you'd know that what you just said was a complete and total crock of bullshiat.

Da Pope says ok to dip your balls in it though.

Maybe not the worst religion, but not exactly flawless.

I agree with his stance on War, but not with his stance on people in Africa getting AIDS because they can't use condoms.

2004-12-16 12:00:42 PM
Isn't this rather like the "Bizzaro bin-Laden" article from earlier today?

2004-12-16 12:01:00 PM
I'd like to suggest an alternative headline:
Bizarro bin-Laden releases statement calling for peace

I think the News Flash tag would be about right.

2004-12-16 12:03:03 PM
So the pope's against violence now?

Sellout.

The papacy jumped the shark with the Crusades.

2004-12-16 12:03:24 PM
The Pope condemns violence, huh? Wow. Next thing you know, he'll want people to stop worshiping the devil or something.

2004-12-16 12:03:26 PM
"Wow, it only took three comments for someone to mention pedophilia."

And it should be. Their stance on the subject is deplorable at best and it should be mentioned until they do something about it. Like jail the animals that preach one thing yet 'do' another. ...and those that protect them.

Agreed. That race is just too tough to call. But definitely we're in it...

goodluckpony, certainly correct it is not the "worst" religion, but then, it is unlikely that such a thing exists. Every religion, doctrine, belief, et cetera has flaws and strengths, so of course. Flaws.

tezcat, agreed. War bad, AIDS bad. Prophylactic ban bad.

But yeah. I'm real tired of Catholicism being blamed for every ill that occurred in the middle ages. Go after the pope (not JPII)'s role in the Holocaust or something, people. There's so much more than tithing for thine sins.

AIDS is GODs punishment for having sex when you shouldnt, everyone knows that.

/Sex is a filthy, discusting and immoral enterprise and should only be shared with someone you love.

I guess american catholics who supported the war are going to hell now. I'm looking at you Rick Santorum.

Yeah, because every priest I've ever known is both a child molestor and hiding a bunch of other ones. When did the abuses take place? How many of these abuses are recent history? (Like in the past ten years) I actually haven't heard of any. Wouldn't that suggest to you that they have solved the problem and are trying to distance themselves from it?

Don't forget that only Catholic priests are child molestors. No other group has ever molested a child.

Indulgences are only given in very specific circumstances. Something like fasting and praying for days over certain days or something. And, yes, most Catholics don't know of them and would never try to purchase their way into heaven. (most likely, if you try to purchase your way into heaven, you won't get there because God doesn't seem to look too favorably on the rich in the bible)

Why does the Pope hate America?

2004-12-16 12:14:22 PM
Apparently "violence" doesn't mean "frivolous war"....

Anyone remember when the church said if you don't vote for Bush you're going to hell? Apparently Jesus loves him a mean, unjustified war, according to the Pope.

2004-12-16 12:14:25 PM
You know, the Catholic church says some really smart things. But then they turn around and proclaim abortion evil. So smart yet so impractical.

2004-12-16 12:15:41 PM
Maybe its just American Catholics that are retarded. Then again, anyone who obsesses over their religion is retarded.

Funny. My folks are catholic, and they watch fox news constantly and vote republican. Every time the pope comes out and denounces war and violence, I ask them why they support their warmongering retarded president over their crusty spiritual leader and conduit to god. Isn't that idolatry? Of course, they have no answer. Their simple minds would probably explode if they actually realized the hypocrisy of their position. Funny how christians call themselves "pro life" and then have absolutely no problem sending american youth halfway around the world to die for nothing. Makes baby jesus puke.

i was raised catholic, and when i compare them to most of the baptists, methodists, mormons, etc, that i know, the catholics look like some damn good peoples...

every religion is ate up. at least the catholics have good intentions at the highest level.

/does not go to church

My girlfriend is Catholic, and I think that if we marry one day, should I convert to catholicism? I'l Lutheran now, and I choose to worship on my own. But would they even let me in being Pro-Choice? And it bothers me that they try to influence themselves in public policy more than other religious organizations choose too (i.e. refusing communion to pro-choicers) And would I want my children exposed to their negatives, which are probalbly small compared to the positives that comes through CCD and Communion and all that fun stuff.

/mmm, brain candy

Where did I say "All"? Where did I say only preists molest children? I didn't, thanks.

One of the more interesting comments I've read recently. I still can't seem to reconcile the notion of a Just War with the President's real motivations and actions, and somehow tie it all together with general Christian beliefs.

Therefore it's mentally painful to see so many fellow Christans blindly voting for Bush, simply because he's also a Christian. I respect that, but his actions have scared the hell out of me. It perpetuates the same old "red state/fundie/redneck/uneducated" stereotypes that the leftists always cite--especially in relation to the most recent election.

Umm, so other people do it so it's not as bad as when we do it. Ok.

And no, not every priest is a child molester (probably) but I work for a software company. If that company had executives who...let's not even go into homosexual pedophilia....sexually harrassed secretaries for example, chased them around the office and shiat like in the 50's comics and my company paid to have those executives defended or relocated and the victims silenced, uh, I'd quit the farking company. So yes, I think all preists who are still among the flock are guilty. Then we could get into this hypothetical company asking for 10% of people's income for doing jack shiat.

And the Pope condemning violence...he's got bigger balls than both Death Stars. The fully completed one being the left, lower hanging one of course.

It's called "Salad Bar Christianity." It lets them pick and choose which teachings of their religion that they will take seriously (and happen to mesh conveniently with their political views) and which parts they will leave for the guy in line behind them. Start with some lettuce, a little shredded cheese, some ham, some fat-free ranch dressing, and oho, what's this? Pickled herring? None of that for me, please!

This is nice because it lets them do things like use Leviticus to condemn gay people right after they've had a great big meal at Red Lobster. It also gets them off the hook from having to take seriously any of the left-wing hippie crap in the New Testament (i.e., the Sermon on the Mount, an anti-American hate screed if there ever was one.)

/mmmm, lobster
