2004-12-14 12:18:29 AM
"And I knew I wasn't dead, because angels don't speak German."

Classic!

2004-12-14 12:21:04 AM
Rest in Peace.
I can't believe no one has made a movie about this guy.

The only person in the entire war to fight for both the Americans and the Soviets? Seems like there would be a few more to add to that number. In any case, it's a shame to see the self-proclaimed "Greatest Generation" dropping away, and to also see that the Baby Boomers are hitting 65.

2004-12-14 12:22:44 AM
I'd like to see a movie made about this guy directed by Jerry Bruckheimer and starring Christopher Walken

2004-12-14 12:23:58 AM
If anybody can find his mugshot from the camp he just looks like the toughest badass on the planet. He's giving the camera a look like "I'm going to come over there and tear out your spleen" it was great.

2004-12-14 12:24:15 AM
this story begs for a "Hardarse" tag.

2004-12-14 12:26:39 AM
HOGAN!!!!!!!
I know, Someberserker, seems like good material, but perhaps Hollywood is tiring of WWII.

My wife's grandfather was in Germany in 1944 thru 1946, he was in some heavy "clean-up" operations. Not pretty. Sometime I may post some pictures he took over there.

2004-12-14 12:27:24 AM
Is the Hero tag for the Grim Reaper, who finally killed him off?

2004-12-14 12:28:06 AM
It's killing me that I Can't find his picture in order to post it... RIP JOE!

2004-12-14 12:28:09 AM
I think the photo on this book cover is his prison camp mug shot:

2004-12-14 12:28:12 AM
Wow, that's a good video game. Just be sure to keep up Joe's strength until he reaches the THIRD Red Cross care-package across the river and then it replenishes him enough to defeat the demonic Nazi boss.

2004-12-14 12:28:15 AM
Sandelaphon:

If anybody can find his mugshot from the camp he just looks like the toughest badass

if only there was a device to conduct image searches with... if only...

2004-12-14 12:28:29 AM
Damn, yo. You really gotta hate the hun to want to fight on the Soviet side. God bless, old man. You were a badder-ass mofo that I can ever aspire to be.

2004-12-14 12:28:46 AM
Please. All kinds of people are switch-hitters.

2004-12-14 12:29:08 AM
I'm not sad to see that the baby boomers are dying off. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

2004-12-14 12:29:26 AM
sounds like behind enemy lines 2 (twice) set in 1940

2004-12-14 12:30:11 AM

2004-12-14 12:30:13 AM
"And I knew I wasn't dead, because angels don't speak German."

A hero with a great sense of humor.

Though I swore never to get into a flamewar ever again, I'll make an exception for you The Timaeus . The depth of your stupidity is such to force me out of my self-imposed flamewar exile one last time,
you excrement-eating, son of a 5-dollar whore.
"Lame topic"? Really? Lame is the fact that your mother did not use a goddammed hanger on you when she had the chance.
Show some respect, man.

2004-12-14 12:30:16 AM
He is a hero for dying?

2004-12-14 12:30:33 AM

"My dad always said, When I go, I want to drop and skid along the ground," John Beyrle wrote in an e-mail reflecting on his fathers death. "He came pretty close. His great fear was the slow slide into oblivion, a nursing home, or worse."

Beyrle died in his sleep in Toccoa, Ga. He was on a visit to the town where he trained with the 506th Regiment in 1942 before shipping out to Britain in preparation for D-Day. In Toccoa, Beyrle gave several talks about his experiences before passing away Sunday morning.

What a badass. I have actually heard of him before too, sad to see him go.

2004-12-14 12:36:12 AM
Commie Bastard.

Actually a cool ass dude. Believed dead in Normandy, Escapes from Nazi camp,Injured riding on a tank in a Soviet Tank charge then lives another 60 years. That's a good life.

2004-12-14 12:37:10 AM
YAY FOR HIM! He fought for the Soviets and ensured that half of Europe would be enslaved under Communism for half a century. What a hero!

2004-12-14 12:37:11 AM
Xomber

you are not flaming

This is one person who deserves respect.

Rest in Peace Airborne
may your canopies be ever full and your landing soft in heaven

2004-12-14 12:37:32 AM
Now I'm a fairly liberal guy and even I know this guy was a pure badass... Here's one guy you wouldn't want to mess with, even the Nazi's couldn't keep him down.

If someone could figure out how to get this photo to post it would be a big help...

RaoulDuke: killing people does not make you a [HERO]

RaoulDuke: killing people does not make you a [HERO]

Yes, but killing Nazis does...

2004-12-14 12:40:30 AM
jekunator: Not to be an asshat...

Baby boomers can't be 65. The oldest can only be 60, if you accept 1944 as the year of the first boomers. 59, if you accept 1945.

2004-12-14 12:41:07 AM
Makes the phrase "Sports Hero" pale in comparison...

Rest in Peace,

And Semper Fi...

2004-12-14 12:41:57 AM
Yes, but killing Nazis does...

Thank you, Dmala
