What's so weird about it?

2002-02-27 10:52:12 AM
Wow. She got his autograph.

2002-02-27 10:52:50 AM
Hippie.

2002-02-27 10:53:33 AM
hows this weird?

2002-02-27 10:53:42 AM
Uh oh, now that PETA has the Jedi on their side inter-planetary war is just around the corner.

2002-02-27 10:54:40 AM
These are not the bears you are looking for.

2002-02-27 10:55:30 AM
Imagine being against cruelty to an animal, how stupid can you get.

must be because he is Scottish ;)

2002-02-27 10:55:40 AM
That's so weird! Loving animals! Like, BIZARRE! What next? Saving forests? Keeping the water clean? DAMN WEIRDO.

2002-02-27 10:56:33 AM
Don't join the dark side(PETA) Obi-Wan

I'd like to take this opportunity to propose a new sport that I believe is destined to become the hot new sport of the 21st Century: Naked Polar Bear Hugging. The idea is to take every person who buys cutesy Coca-Cola polar bear toys, refers to polar bears as "intelligent, gentle creatures", or otherwise buys into the idea that polar bears are anything other than savage animals that would kill you and eat your flesh. Take these people, strip them down naked, and have them run up to a polar bear screaming "I LOVE YOU POLAR BEAR" at the top of their lungs, while trying to give the polar bear a great big "bear hug".

Anyone who actually makes contact with the bear, and manages to not be eaten, is the winner!

2002-02-27 10:56:44 AM
Haha, I'm in harmony with Harmonia. Fark accolades are surely to follow.

2002-02-27 10:58:05 AM
Yeah, I don't get what's "weird" about this. The weirdest thing about it is that there are polar bears in Puerto Rico at all. Everything else about it (actor writing on behalf of PETA to government, PETA against polar bears in deplorable conditions) seems pretty average to me.

Yawn.

2002-02-27 10:58:07 AM
I think that's pretty damn cool of him. Not like some stars that just care about reading their poetry during acceptance speeches.

2002-02-27 10:58:15 AM
With all the other nonsense that celebs get involved in, this is pretty reasonable. He's not using his celebrity to garner attention, whether to himself or his cause. He simply wrote a letter that happened to get picked up by TSG.

2002-02-27 10:58:43 AM
If it wasn't on behalf of PETA i would support him.

I'd like to take this opportunity to propose a new sport that I believe is destined to become the hot new sport of the 21st Century: Naked Human Hugging. The idea is to take every person who buys cutesy Coca-Cola human toys, refers to humans as "intelligent, gentle creatures", or otherwise buys into the idea that humans are anything other than savage animals that would kill you and eat your flesh. Take these people, strip them down naked, and have them run up to a human screaming "I LOVE YOU HUMAN" at the top of their lungs, while trying to give the human a great big "human hug".

2002-02-27 10:59:45 AM
ugh. I shouldn't even surface here.
I submitted this with the 'weird' tag - just because I found it odd that there were Puerto Rican polar bears.
Sorry to cause such a fuss.

On a radio talk show yesterday (Howie Carr in Boston), the station had a tape of Bruce Friedrichs, PETA's spokesman, saying that he supports firebombing any industry that is guilty of animal cruelty including slaughterhouses and the banks that finance them. Mr. Friedrichs will be on the show today at 3 pm eastern time for comments and questions.

Check out howiecarr.org for info.

It's not so much weird as it is, boring and pointless.

2002-02-27 11:01:59 AM
So if PETA is now a terrorist organization, and if Ewen McGregor writes letters on his behalf, and Mr. McGregor plays a character in Star Wars, am I going to have my assets frozen if I go see Episode II? I do have to say that the prospect of Jar-Jar being tried by a secret military tribunal and summarily executed is an encouraging prospect though.

2002-02-27 11:02:54 AM
How is this posted now? I submitted this a good two days ago. Help me understand.

2002-02-27 11:04:06 AM
I would like to thank the person who had to tell us who Ewan McGregor was.

2002-02-27 11:05:07 AM
Odd. The mods didn't post my submition about R2D2 supporting the slaughter of Norwegian polar bears....

2002-02-27 11:06:13 AM
It must be great to have so much free time.

2002-02-27 11:07:14 AM
You go Obi-Wan! Lightsaber those nasty Puerto-Rican circus owners!

(I really do applaud his efforts)

Praise lightsabers.

"If it wasn't on behalf of PETA i would support him."

Flamebait: If you think about it, the letter is actually on behalf of the *bears*.

2002-02-27 11:11:23 AM
ok, so they are mistreating polar bears... take the bears away... conflict over. I think even the most PETA-hating person is still against animals getting beaten. And it didn't really seem like Ewan was using his fame to get it done... now if he would have mentioned Starwars or Trainspotting, I would have been more scheptical.

2002-02-27 11:11:32 AM
I would have had much more respect for the letter if he had left out the PETA part.

damn tree hugging hippie crap

If they can't find a place for the bears, shave 'em till the black shows.

Did you guys ever stop to think, just for a second, that maybe the bears LIKE being beaten? Huh?

2002-02-27 11:13:24 AM
"It must be great to have so much free time."

Cliff_Yablonski: Perhaps you could clarify your comment. Are you saying that it is great that Ewan has enough free time to concern himself with the welfare of animals, or that you have enough free time to hang around on fark, posting inane comments?

2002-02-27 11:13:27 AM
Great headline

2002-02-27 11:14:39 AM
I've known of some bears that don't mind being beaten. But they usually hang out in gay leather bars.

2002-02-27 11:23:53 AM
"Wah wah it wasn't weird wah wah I wanted it to be weird but it wasn't wah wah it's the wrong tag and it was DUMB that mean guy Rtreynor did it on PURPOSE! It's just not fair.

Shut the hell up you god damn whiny pansies.

2002-02-27 11:24:15 AM
damn tree hugging hippie crap

YEAH, fark the trees! Cut em all down and build a Best Buy with a farkoff huge parking lot! See what the hippies say then! They have no fashion sense anyway!

Cow needs food, badly. Elf shot the food.

2002-02-27 11:28:07 AM
I thought the chicago bears were used to being beaten. And what are they doing in a circus in Puerto Rico?

2002-02-27 11:30:53 AM
CheekyMonkey: Let me answer your question with a question. Did your mother drop you on your head as a youngster, or are you a natural born idiot?

2002-02-27 11:34:00 AM
Will PETA, if given the help they are requesting, release them into there natural Mexican Habitat?

2002-02-27 11:36:24 AM
Well at least they are not burning down Puerto Rico. Not that it would hurt that place much.

2002-02-27 11:37:59 AM
Cliff, you are oh so mean! Why oh why do you pick on the festering gobs of humainity in Applton City? Did you ever think that they might see it and cry themselves to sleep? You are a bad man!

2002-02-27 11:38:58 AM
oh great - Ewan "may the shwartz be with you" McGregor is now a terrorist.
time to carpet-bomb Scotland.

Frolixo: when you get to be my age, you will understand. But of course you won't get to be my age, because sitting around all day on your computer inter/net machine is slowly turning you into a pasty-faced tub of grease.

2002-02-27 11:48:08 AM
It's sad when a farker can't make up his own screen persona.

2002-02-27 11:52:14 AM
Am I the only one who thinks putting polar bear, puerto rico, us government, star wars, and a scottish actor in the same sentence is ipso facto funny, regardless of what the real story is about?

It's like a goddamn mad lib.

2002-02-27 11:52:26 AM
Its wierd cause it involves PETA and in my opinion ANYTHING involving PETA is just wierd. Hell have you read how PETA thinks people shouldn't have pets because it is cruel? Or how people shouldn't use any drug that was from animal testing (guess all those diabetics should stop shooting insulin and anyone with siezures should stop taking their meds, much less what will happen to all the AIDS patients if they are deprived of thier meds.

2002-02-27 11:52:52 AM
Oh and one more thing, I have lost ALL respect for McGregor.

I've gotten to the demented stage of hoping that everything PETA does fails, screw the animals...

2002-02-27 11:52:59 AM
Ahhh, thats the Cliff I know and love.

2002-02-27 11:53:37 AM
dang it. closed a <i> with </b>. apologies all around.

2002-02-27 11:53:38 AM
Did anyone else notice ol boy's signature looked like a B, followed by a line, then a bunch of gibberish. I bet this letter was faked, and you and I know who did it too, former CHIPs star Erik Estrada
