Here's a bed sheet, there's a pipe in your cell, get to it.

Brilliant strategy!

1. Kill people
2. Plead guilty right away, ask to be put to death
3. Doctor and judge agree you must be insane
4. Be put into mental hospital for life
5. Write a book
6. ???
7. Profit!

Looks like a Kentucky tag is needed here?

No.

Stupid Canadians and their news.

More criminals should do this! This man deserves a hero tag.

He must have just gotten engaged.

2004-12-06 11:35:12 AM
I agree. What is the issue? He wants to die, kill him.

It's like that old Jerry Seinfeld joke....
The cops catch you and beat you down and put a knee on your neck and hit you with clubs and when they finally handcuff you and put you inthe car, they say "Watch your head" and they hold the top of your head to protect it.

If this guy went "through the system" people would be foaming at the mouth to kill him, but since he says he WANTS to be killed, they're trying to protect him.

Ey yi yi..

"and if you refuse to execute me, Your Honor, then I'll have no choice but to kill your slut of a wife, and to sodomize your son, and then after that, piss in your coffee, and as a final insult, to submit a "Your Dog wants ..." headline to Fark.com."

a4dzac,
That, or he got engaged and met his future mother-in-law.

The government won't give private citizens the right to choose to have their suicide assisted, but they'll grant that right to felons.

Wonderful logic there.

2004-12-06 11:38:30 AM
Diane Clements, director of Justice for All, a pro-death penalty group in Houston, said a case like Chapman's isn't one of "suicide by state."

"Pleading guilty and accepting responsibility for the crime committed is unusual," Clements said. "The case will dictate the punishment, not the killer."

So you're pro death-penalty, this guy wants to die, and you want to spend money on a trial where his defense will probably be non-existent?

2004-12-06 11:39:00 AM
I say grant this man his wish

2004-12-06 11:39:20 AM
Hmmm... raises an interesting scenario: terminally ill person, denied the right to physician-assisted suicide, murders a stranger in cold blood, turns self in, pleads guilty, requests execution.

Would this work where death with dignity did not?

2004-12-06 11:41:15 AM
My headline:

"Accused child killer seeks execution so no one will feel responsible for his death. Finally, a cold-blooded killer with strong values"

Oh well. :)

Why not just kill another (willing) terminally ill person? Nobody else has to know they're not complete strangers...

Why a "weird" tag? No hero tag either. How about "obvious." I love the defense lawyer twisting it around to say that the state is fulfilling his death wish. EXCUSE ME, he murdered two little children. Why prolong everyone's pain, including his own, with a lengthy trial. Perhaps he has rarely-found senses of responsiblility and remorse. He should at least be allowed to plead guilty in the initial trial.

/not a death penalty advocate

In a bizarre way, this man does warrant the hero tag.

A pro-death penalty group from Texas? Now there's a shock.

Give him what he wants.

Other interesting thing here in KY is our Governor is a Physician and people are saying he cannot sign the death warrant on someone on death row since he would be violating his Socratic Oath. Interesting from several view points. Chapman slit the throats of several children and tried to murder their mother. They should bring back the electric chair for this guy.

The last time an inmate in Kentucky did so, he later changed his mind - but lost his appeal.

Bwahahahahahahaha!

Anyone who's pro-death penalty has no problem spending money. Personally, I oppose capital punishment for a number of reasons, one of which is that it doesn't make good sense fiscally. It's cheaper to jail someone for life than to go through the standard appeals process that you run into with death penalty cases - Now, I realize that some reactionary type might say 'well, eliminate the appeals process.' That would involve trimming some fat off of the Constitution and that's usually a bad idea...

Can you imagine the horror the mother and children must have gone through as they were brutally stabbed and killed? Could anyone be so idiotic as to not go ahead and shoot this F*cker in the head? As long as I wouldnt have to go to prison I would gladly go pop a cap in his brain. I dont know why those childrens Grandaddy hasnt already done it. The law sux, you should take matters into your own hands when it comes to killing children. Hope he enjoys hell...

2004-12-06 11:58:18 AM
By the way - Justice for All is about as whackjob a group as you can get.

2004-12-06 11:58:53 AM
Sounds like this douche planned on pleading guilty and requesting to be executed before he actually committed the murders. I think since he wanted to make the legal system responsible for his suicide they should give him any of four options.

They can lock him in a cell with a large tub of water. Give him a knife, a rope, and tell him that he will be receiving no food for his entire stay.

That way his choices for suicide would be.

A. Drowning
B. Stab himself to death
C. Hang Himself
D. Starvation

I know it is a bit brutal, but it seems like he wanted to try and control his demise. This way he gets what he wants.

A killer called 'Donald Johnson' in 1989? .. does he have the 'Don Johnson' 80s hair?

I wonder if that's why he wanted to be killed. Having the name 'Don Johnson' in the 80s sounds pretty bad. He should be tortured with the Miami Vice soundtrack 24/7.

A guy I went to high school with and hung out with killed a girl at a donut shop, and duting his trial asked to be executed. He wanted the death penalty. No explanation for what he did either. After sitting in jail for a while, he decided to hang himself, and save the State (Texas) the trouble.

2004-12-06 12:04:26 PM
Im actually against capital punishment, but in cases like this I would not mind being given the chance to club this asshat in the head with a lead pipe.

how many whacks would 5 bucks get me?

2004-12-06 12:04:51 PM
Well this is a nice change of pace.

2004-12-06 12:04:53 PM
There are easier ways to get killed by the state...Death By Cop isn't that uncommon for those who lack the testicular fortitude to pull the trigger on themselves. Want to get killed by the State, and don't want the messiness of a trial? Pull a weapon on Maine State Trooper...those fellas are one of the best police forces in the country, and they'll drop you like a bad bowl of baked beans if you pull a weapon on them--not a trigger happy force, but one that doesn't truck one iota with threats to themselves and the public. Same can be said for several State forces as well. This guy just wants to die in more comfort than on cold asphalt...

Half joking, half serious I sometimes think these should be on every corner.

If you are basically sane and are not making the decision based on, for instance neurotransmitter imbalances like depression that make you feel suicidal in response to not winning the lottery again, then go for it. Sometimes its just time to summon the cosmic waiter and call "Check Please".

I think its especially obscene that the state does not assist people who are terminally ill and elect to choose the time and method of their death. My partner's mother was facing painful terminal illness and her only option was to slowly starve herself.

mhall32: Could anyone be so idiotic as to not go ahead and shoot this F*cker in the head

All of the arguments that we make -- either in favor of, or in opposition to, killing this guy as punishment don't mean jack sh*t. The justice system has to work the way it works. And I will bet you $1 (right now, in front of all our fellow Farkers, as witnesses) that even if this dude does end up at the top of the row, the state isn't going to get to him before some other inmate and his shiv do.

And before you comment that it's supposed to be about anti-abortion, I know. I just thought it was apposite (look it up, a55wipe)
Some of my friends think these pro-life people are just annoying idiots. Other of my friends think these pro-life people are evil farks. How are we gonna have a consensus? I'm torn. I try and take the broad view and think of them as evil, annoying farks

he would be violating his Socratic Oath.

I think you mean "Hippocratic Oath." What's the Socratic oath? Buggering boys and then drinking hemlock?

As for the Hippocratic Oath, it includes the following line:

"I will give no deadly medicine to any one if asked, nor suggest any such counsel."

So, basically, they're right at least as far as lethal injection is concerned. Not sure how that would effect, say, ordering death by firing squad, since that is hardly a medical procedure.

Arguing the death penalty is like competing in the Special Olympics, even if you win, you're still Maroon 5 lead singer Adam Levine.
