Excellent headline

He's got some pretty good qualifications. Let's hope he gets his job done well.

2004-12-03 10:19:36 AM
Maybe he'll come up with some new colors for our terror alerts

2004-12-03 10:19:58 AM
Nice headline, and from initial appearance, a good choice. A hardened New Yorker who worked through 9/11, not just a political appointee.

2004-12-03 10:20:12 AM

He was only 2 days away from retirement and this had to happen!

/Mendozaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Awesome headline.

/offer Kerik a cold one

2004-12-03 10:20:38 AM
Don't get the headline, but I have a feeling a tin hat and/or sci-fi is involved somwehere.

2004-12-03 10:20:42 AM
This seems like a weird pick to me. They're asking the guy to go from policing a city to managing a massive federal bureaucracy. Seems like a bit of a leap.

Nah, he can spend the first year adjusting the shade of the colour-coded alert chart!

You know, I've been making the same name association since I first heard this guy's name a few days ago. I suppose that the Fark headline was inevitable.

2004-12-03 10:25:30 AM
Old news, but it's good to have a new head of Fatherland Security.

Oops, I meant Homeland Security. Gee, how'd I mix those two up? They're totally different terms...

2004-12-03 10:25:40 AM
Maybe Kerik will actually have some balls and call the misnamed war on "terrorism" for what it really is and call it a War with islamic fascism. After all, he witnessed the destruction of WTC and had friends murdered by arab muslims all in the name of the religion of peace.

/eff you if you don't like my non-pc viewpoint
//deal with it or accept dhimitude.

Homestarrunner.com, actually. From a Strongbad E-mail.

Nice Card, though I thought Trogdor was "invincible". That's how it was in the game "Peasants Quest" I would think his defence would be at least a 12.

2004-12-03 10:27:24 AM
He said "smite". Heh Heh.

Me thinks they're just pandering to New York so they can run Guiliani in 2008.

If the GOP is competitive in 2008 in NY, it means the Democrats have to campaign in a state they normally win-- and less money can be directed into swing states.

2004-12-03 10:28:24 AM
Kerik is a "dedicated reformer who insists on results"

Sounds like a good guy, but he won't get far in the federal gov't.

2004-12-03 10:28:35 AM
Former 'private security professional' prison guard, beat cop and NY police commish currently employed 'reorganizing' the Iraqi police.

If anyone has been down to the NYSE in in the last few years you can expect the rest of America to start to look like that.

2004-12-03 10:29:02 AM
Submitter, I love you.

2004-12-03 10:29:10 AM
"Kerik is currently a senior vice president of Giuliani Partners, the consulting firm founded by Rudy Giuliani, who as mayor of New York appointed him police commissioner in 2000."

More evidence that they want Guliani in 2008.

2004-12-03 10:29:37 AM
hate to say it, but if you don't know who trogdor is. . . man i'm not going to say anything

Is that prohibited in the FARQ?

Seems like an alright guy. Too bad he looks like a thin Jesse Ventura.

Elvis Nixon:

Indeed. Not to even mention the fully-black-clad riot police armed with automatic weapons which now adorn New York's every street corner on any holiday occasion. Hey, Ridge almost turned the US into a police state, and Bush is counting on Kerik to finish the job.

2004-12-03 10:34:31 AM
Political payback - Kerik was going all over the networks during the presidential campaign stumping for Bush. It was obvious he was angling for something and now we know what.

Still, maybe this will mean New York will finally get put on an equal footing with Wyoming in terms of the amount of security funding we get per capita...

Humm I would worry about his chuminess with the Saudies
Royal Family

Starting His Career

Fresh out of the Army, 21 year old Bernard provided security for the construction of a large military base Saudi Arabia. There he honed his know-how in international police work, investigations and terrorism and also worked for the Royal Saudi family. "I think I left Saudi Arabia with a different sense of internal pride, with a sense of honor and integrity that I didn't know and understand before I got there."

Why is it that, every time I see a picture of our idiot leader on the internet, he always has that look about him as if to say "I just came for the beer and the biatches..."

/sorry, Adam...

2004-12-03 10:35:34 AM
Here's a quote from Kerik, Guiliani's pal, and just one of the many reasons he scares the fark out of me:

"The President has given law enforcement the tools to do their job in the Patriot Act, while John Kerry attacks the law on the campaign trail. The Patriot Act is giving federal, state and law enforcement officials the same tools to bring terrorists to justice that they have long had to investigate and prosecute organized crime. This law is critical to the ongoing War on Terror."

You ARE joking, right? This is just some guy who tripped in to this position by accident. He's a farkup, who just happened to be in the right place at the right time for a nmber of incidents.

Wow - think of it. The AG is a death sentence fanatic who reinvented the use of torture and doesn't believe there any legal limits to Presidential power. And the DHS chief is an ex private security guard and prison officer with ties to the Saudi government and the US army.

We will have undeclared Martial Law inside of a year. Detainment camps in 2.

2004-12-03 10:43:52 AM
At first glance I thought he had chosen Jesse "The Body" Ventura as our Homeland Security czar:

Then I noticed it was Kerik:

Quite the resemblance, isn't it?

Is he an "oil man"? Because if he isn't an oil man, he won't last.

/Even the Secretary of Agriculture is an oil man, if you count ethanol.

Thats_a_lot_of_nuts: I'd feel better with Liddy.
