The game that was being sent on the demo discs as a trial?

2004-12-02 08:26:43 AM
Such an old post.

"Deneteus" wrote in another forum: "I feel that Sony has just wasted part of my life...My play time is valuable. It is a part of my life that I can't get back. I shouldn't have to resort to cheating just to get back to where I was before."

How can you waste a life when it's apparent "Deneteus" doesn't have one?

/Needs to get his priorities straight........

Still, that would suck...I have saves from all the GTA games, Gran Turismo, and others on my card. That would translate into hundrede of hours oof gameplay. I would be pissed.
2004-12-02 04:09:13 PM
Yeah I'd hate to have to replay the whore-beating mission in GTA :)
2004-12-02 04:23:13 PM
Backups, people. Just like in PC games, the secret is backups.

*is promptly beaten senseless by Sony Piracy Patrol personnel thinking I'm referring to the discs*
2004-12-02 05:12:46 PM
What are these 'memory cards' of which you speak?

/X-Box owner
2004-12-02 05:13:13 PM
I don't care because consoles suck.

thankfully i'm one of the three people who have and use a ps2 hard drive, ever since final fantasy 9 i have personally backed up every goddamn save i made on either my dex drive or my hard drive, i do not want to lose another 80 hours of my life because my sistem wants to get pissy.
2004-12-02 05:14:15 PM
I was able to find out about this beforehand, and since I recieved the disc in the mail and want to play Viewtiful Joe 2, I had a close call. (I threw the disc away to be safe.)
2004-12-02 05:14:48 PM
I regularly backup my entire card to another card. Too often have I had to replay a role-playing game because the memory card crapped out 2 hours before the end.
2004-12-02 05:15:09 PM
the grammar nazi in me surrenders.

I never realized how superior Mr. Atlas is.

/I bow before your mighty Microsoft integrated HD. Memory cards are such a burden. Especially when I want to bring my saves to somebody else's house.

thats so funny

when you type Boobies it automatically changes it to boobies

Past, meet hard drives...
2004-12-02 05:16:29 PM
It's not a bug, it's a feature !
2004-12-02 05:17:54 PM
correction when you type "first p@st"
2004-12-02 05:18:47 PM

Just think, "Deneteus" was mere hours away from a significant accomplishment. He doesn't like playing GTA, but he does, to achieve his life goal of finishing a video game. But now he has to suffer through it all over again.
2004-12-02 05:19:03 PM
I have saves from all the GTA games, Gran Turismo, and others on my card.

Wasn't there a flaw on the 2nd disc of GT2? I believe the eariler versions would erase your data if you ran the time trials and saved the info. Those were the same discs that had the car wash as $50,000, I think.
2004-12-02 05:19:50 PM
Perhaps you're missing the point here...a true gaming nerd wouldn't HAVE friends to "bring my saves to somebody else's house". I should know. None of my friends are gamers. Sucks bigtime. But I never have to trek anywhere with my Xbox...

It would be more scary if the word "card" wasn't in there...
2004-12-02 05:21:46 PM
Well, at least we can still rely on Sony Online Entertainment!

*glances at Star Wars: Galaxies*

Yeah, what I just said? Nevermind.
2004-12-02 05:22:05 PM
yeah yeah, I still play 2600, no need to backup

I just tried submitting a link that I found on this PS2 story page, but Fark said it was already submitted and not listed. I find it hard to believe that this old news is more interesting than what I'm about to show you.

In 2005 Skynet becomes self-aware. The survivors call the war "Judgment Day."
2004-12-02 05:22:46 PM
Is losing your Final Fantasy X-2 save really worth a scary tag?
2004-12-02 05:22:52 PM
Relax. And besides, Xbox also has memory cards.
2004-12-02 05:22:56 PM
The obvious solution to this, and other problems like it in the future, is backups. Buy another memory card.

</sony sales rep>
2004-12-02 05:22:57 PM
You can still get xbox memory cards to add on, the point is that the HD has enough space that, generally, you won't need to have to shell out cash for more memory.
2004-12-02 05:23:00 PM
xbox > ps2
2004-12-02 05:23:58 PM
Moral of the story: always download the full version to use as your demo disk to see if you want to buy it or not.

/makes sense to me
//doesn't have a PS2
2004-12-02 05:24:09 PM
this is why xbox is better than ps2
2004-12-02 05:24:33 PM
holy shiat. they make memory cards?
2004-12-02 05:25:41 PM
PS2 sucks

Xbox and GC blow it away
2004-12-02 05:26:56 PM
Just for those not in the know: Xbox part 2 will not have a hard drive. So yea, no more of that, I hope you like your memory cards.

/owns all 3 consoles

2004-12-02 05:29:35 PM
ha, if this happened to me I'd lose maybe 3 hours of gameplay. The sad thing is I'd still be on the first level of whatever game it was.

/love games, no time to play them.

No, I'm not kidding.
2004-12-02 05:30:48 PM
Oh, I thought demo discs went out of fashion after Pizza Hut stopped giving them away 5 years ago.
2004-12-02 05:31:45 PM
huh, it seems on my XBox that I can backup my saved games on

but then again, my XBox is extra special...
2004-12-02 05:33:35 PM
Jesus Horatio Christ. You farking video game elitists are sure farking annoying.

Who gives a holy shiat about what you think sucks and what doesn't? Do you really think anyones mind will change? Really? You all come off as snooty children comparing their favorite toys.

I have an idea. When another video game link pops up I will come in and just tell you all how I feel about it, even though I have nothing to say about the link itself- I'll just assume someone will care that I think sucks. Just to say it. Then I will wait for a sports link and be the first person to say that Duke sucks and then proceed to say that whatever sport is being discussed just plain sucks.

No that's right. The new slimline PS2s eliminated the hard drive bay ergo no hard drive. They've have built in networking and I imagine there's a way to attach an external hard drive through one of the ports. Supposed to have marginally better rendering engine in hardware as well.
2004-12-02 05:35:12 PM
To defuse any potential "PS2sucx" arguments, note first that I've been loyal to Nintendo since the NES. So I'm in an enemy trench here, much as I'd like to think I stay somewhat neutral. I'm not a rabid fanboy. Nintendo simply has the kind of game library I prefer to play, and I'm familiar with the franchise characters. Plus my brother has a PS2 right next to me, and I'm not a fan of the controller. At all. Which was a big reason for getting the Gamecube in the first place. So know where I'm coming from.

That said, a demo disk erasing your memory card sucks. I feel for you guys who had it happen to you. I'd cuss blue streaks for days, to the point where neighbors will come up to our doorstep to let me hear the new and exciting words their 3-year-old kids picked up. However, it's a one-time loss. Were it to happen repeatedly, PS2 sales would plunge. PS2 GAME sales would plunge. With games needing days, weeks, months to complete these days, memory card reliability is crucial, and if that were to be lost, that's pretty much the end of a console, and possibly the company. But again, it's just the one time. There's not going to be the end of the PS2. It's only when that demo disk goes in and the Viewtiful Joe 2 demo is played.

What WILL happen, and probably all that will happen, is sluggish sales of the PS2 version of Viewtiful Joe 2, and a small chance of the same thing happening to the Gamecube version as well. The link's been established between "Viewtiful Joe 2" and "memory card erasure", and no amount of soothing speeches from Capcom/Sony is going to change that. Certainly nobody who's already lost data's gonna buy it- once bitten, twice shy. The PS2 may drop in sales, but only by the slightest sliver, and besides, the console round's winding down anyway, so Sony will be able to shrug it off.
2004-12-02 05:35:57 PM
I got this demo disc in the mail, I go downstairs to try it out, and the very first thing I do is go straight into Viewtiful Joe 2. A couple of days later I get the postcard saying the game will erase your memory card...Long story short, by fluke coincedence I had taken the memory card out right before I played VJ2 because I was screwing around exploring in a game with autosave, but I didn't want it to save my game.

Lighten up and relax. You'll not only live longer, you won't look like such an uptight, defensive moran either.
