Shrimp dustup again? The USA is having some trade arguments about shrimping too I read.

I wonder if shrimp can be "farmed" like fish? I suppose it would be expensive but crap shrimp's expensive anyway. I do love the little critters though, they's mighty tasty. Got a Chinese restaurant near me ( called Fu Li, which sounds kinky ) that makes this salt and pepper shrimp that's utterly delicious. It's shrimp ( headless but still with the shell and legs ) battered with some salt and pepper and spice batter, deepfried and then wokked with onions and jalapenos ( jalapenos? Well it works ). Oh man it's good.

Just don't eat shrimp. About 4 pounds of other sea critters have to be caught for every pound of shrimp. Poor poor critters...

you know, i'm sitting here, studying the most god awful horrible subject ever - civil procedure - (don't ask why i'm on fark right now) - anyway, i'm so messed up right now, that i can find the silver lining here. this is the kind of shiat that countries used to go to war over. i feel fairly confident that Canada won't invade Denmark, or the other way around because of this. lets hear it for the evolution of man!

evidence rule 606.b sucks my balls.

Bad idea about farming shrimp. Fish too. They corral them in nets and feed them processed food. There are no predators or prey getting in, and no fish getting out. Imagine a cattle ranch, but with 50,000 head of cattle 5 acres. What lands on the ground?

So the area confined in the net becomes biologically crapped on and dies. Areas that have had fish farms lack almost all the natural life. It also keeps the fish together and more apt to develop disease. Ever hear of whirling disease? And parasites, too. Wild salmon is healthier and tastes better too. There are a few fish, like catfish, that can be farmed, but only in manmade lakes.

mattberg "i feel fairly confident that Canada won't invade Denmark, or the other way around because of this. lets hear it for the evolution of man!"

Well thankfully Canada and Denmark have evolved. Unfortunately if they were our (U.S.) shrimp fisheries, we would have already sent bombers to destroy all of Denmark's fishing boats and infrastructure.

Winner!

Let's just hope they stay on good terms with the French, so they don't lose the crullers too.

Touche, Consdubya.

But shellfish don't move around much, do they?

Oysters galore on the Oregon coast. Five in my area. A lot of mud flats that were already there. Just jam some sticks in the mud, some netting... You get a pearl every now and then too, my mom got one for her anniversary after my dad almost ate it.

/leaving now, I swear

damn danes!!!

scourge of the north atlantic ... worms of the sea.

Like their scruffy ancestors, they want to sail over here and claim our land. Now they are also hungry for our shrimp.

I say we slap them silly! Of course, that would mean less peacekeeping and more daneslapping but I am all for that.

True dat...

Here in Australia they are having problems with agressive seals, who jump/bite themselves into the sea-pens, and go nuts eating.

They also attack the fishermen around the area by jumping into their boats and threatening them....

/Couldnt believe it myslef at first, then saw footage on our version of 60 minutes...

Imagine that....Canada vs Denmark. Our fishing trollers are probably more capable than our busted ass subs.

I bet 90% of the replies to this topic will be from Canadians, simply because no one else cares and that us Canadians tend to reply to all topics regarding our country, no matter how ridiculous.
