I sure hope ESPN or someone, anyone, will televise some minor league hockey since the NHL idiots ( players and owners ) have decided to destroy everything. Let's face it, the NHL is dead and it's not rising from the ashes this time. The owners expanded too fast to cities who don't care about hockey ( Columbus and Charlotte, anyone? ) and the players are being downright snitty about making even the most minor concession. Going to love seeing the players and owners SOL when the whole NHL collapses. The only trouble is the small fries, the bar owners and the ticket sellers and the security guards, are royally screwed and will have to find customers or work in a time when the economy is garbage, the dollar is becoming worthless and the wealthy are making the biggest money grab in history.

Yeah, how come this guy gets suspended when the whole NHL is showing it's collective butt to the fans? He was just trying to emulate the Big Boys.

By the way, I do not agree this is the end of the NHL. But, like baseball, they are gonna lose a lot of fans over this crap.

The CBA problems go a lot deeper than the baseball problems a decade ago. This may be the death of the NHL. I truly hope not.

turns out he misunderstood "Blowing in the Wind" too. His trial for that fiasco starts next week.

They had to step in and stop this mooning thing now, else you never know where things might end up. Before long, people might actually be breaking rules on the ice, fighting each other and disrputing play.

In other news, the ECHL still exists.

/Thought it died a couple of years ago.

"Turn the other cheek" is for liberals: let's kick some ass!! YEAH!!!!

We're all gonna die.

AAAAAAH! turns out nobody understands the expression!
it doesn't mean show ur booty, it means turn the other side of your face when slapped, as to invite a second slap. it's a statement of defiance, people have propagated this falsehood of it meaning "walk away.."
/throw me a friggin bone

I like those crazy hockey dads better. Wake me up when someone punches someone else because little Timmy can't kill a penalty.

Ned Braden surrenders.

Never, ever drop your pants when your team is playing the "Nailers".

Common sense here, man.

Seems to me pro sports in general are getting increasingly ridiculous. I haven't watched a pro game of anything in months. It stopped being about anything other than money many a year ago.

/watches college sports but thats starting the downhill slide too

Seems as if getting slapped in the face twice isn't too defiant, it's pretty freaking stupid. A gesture of defiance? A cocked fist is a gesture of defiance.

lol, gopher321
The official gif of the NHL! :)

Pfil: "freaking stupid"? That's interesting. Obviously you're missing the point. If somebody slaps you in the face, it's to disgrace you or otherwise be dominant. Turning for a second slap means you're showing them it's not working. Believe it or not, that's what the Bible means. I hope your seat aside the lake of fire is nice and toasty :)

What is this Ha-Key you speak of?

Crazycurt

Actually Columbus is probably the best new hockey market and was one of the few bright spots of the fast expansion. However Miami, Nashville, Carolina and Atlanta are as good as gone.

Hehe. That showed them...a little too much.

Minor-league hockey players are (pun intended) in a league of their own.

These guys are hard-core.

I got to go into the locker room after a practice once and I peeked into the trainer's room where, to my horror, a guy was actually stitching-up the cheek of one of the players.

But, it wasn't the trainer or the team doctor...no.

It was another player.

2004-11-26 10:13:17 PM
I sure wouldn't turn the other cheek then

2004-11-26 10:24:16 PM
Q: What do you call 750 guys watching football?

A: The NHL.

2004-11-26 10:34:03 PM
ignore the owners and players, look at the farking lawyers who are running the game.

/montreal without hockey just isn't the same.
//wonders if they're going to make a NHL 2005, or just NHL 2004 2.

you're in Orlando, you couldn't possibly understand. I am not trying to be faceious either, but having a team since 93-94 does not qualify any Floridian to speak about Hockey.

Come back in about a hundred years.

"wonders if they're going to make a NHL 2005"

I heard it's not a hockey but more some adventure game where you play an out of shape ex hockey millionaire on drugs and booze that use all is time to get more drunk and try to hit some fat chicks and crack whores.

2004-11-26 11:06:22 PM
Oh, minor league hockey, I thought you said sports.

2004-11-26 11:10:29 PM
There's an interesting idea gaining momentum that a minor league, college, or your buddy's pick up game should be allowed to play for Lord Stanley's Cup this year....

"Sullivan, a right wing, had played four games for Reading"

I thought I smelled a right-wing conspiracy...

Reminds me of when I was coachin' in Omaha, and Eddie Shore sends me this guy, was a terrible masterbator. Why, he'd get deliberate penalties, then get in the box, and damned if he wouldn't mmmhmmhmmm...

\God Bless Strother Martin

going to an ECHL game tonight in San Diego (Gulls vs. Fresno).

its not the players/coaches problem in the NHL, its the farking arsehat commissioner who over the last 11 years has run the league into the ground allowing the crazy expansion, league mismanagement, and basically running it into bankruptcy.

AHL is FAR better than ECHL, but unfortunatly for me, there are no AHL teams around so i'm stuck with ECHL. But boy, these games are a lot slower and more annoying because, well, frankly, they just aren't very good. (As if I wouldn't get my rump handed too me when I step out on the ice with them though)

/fresno sucks
