A Louisiana woman is suing Nintendo, alleging her 30-year-old son suffered seizures after playing video games for eight hours a day, six days a week.

It's good the sun isn't owned by anything or I could forsee similiar lawsuits, seeing as you can be blinded by starting at it.

Just more proof that America has the best damn judicial system. Period.

2002-02-24 09:36:14 PM
Either way, if you actually READ the instructions with ANY video game, you WILL BE WARNED, that this may happen, Sorry about her luck...She gets NOTHING>!

2002-02-24 09:36:52 PM
In a related story, I'm suing Fark for never letting me get anything done at work.

2002-02-24 09:38:52 PM
I'll sign on to the suing fark idea. We'll make it a big precedent-setting class-action suit. And I'll also sue them for not linking to a Canada hockey gold medal story.

2002-02-24 09:39:33 PM
Did he get the powerup and win the game?

2002-02-24 09:40:17 PM
It claims the man never had seizures before buying a Nintendo-64 player in 1999.

A Nintendo-64 player? It plays Nintendo 64's!!

2002-02-24 09:40:45 PM
I am so freaking tired of these lawsuits, thay only raise the price of MY gas and COFFEE

2002-02-24 09:40:58 PM
Uh - was he a member of the CPA? Because then maybe he would have made some money.

2002-02-24 09:42:10 PM
Ok, lets look at a couple things:

A Louisiana woman is suing Nintendo, alleging her 30-year-old son suffered seizures after playing video games for eight hours a day, six days a week.

48 hours a week spent playing video games? I'm surprised all that happened were seizures! What did this guy do for a living, anyways?

The lawsuit filed in federal court says the man died last year after hitting his head and mouth on a table during one of the seizures.

ONE of the seizures?? This implies that it wasn't the first time he had a seizure. Let's think about this for a sec. If you're doing something, and said thing causes seizures, isn't that a sign to STOP DOING IT?

I hate people...

2002-02-24 09:43:42 PM
Nice Point Jerky!!

2002-02-24 09:44:28 PM
Nintendo sucks he should have gotten a Playstation 2

2002-02-24 09:44:47 PM
He must have gotten every powerup and won every game.

2002-02-24 09:45:21 PM

yup, Walken has it right there...

"8 hours a day 6 days a week".... and she's suing for his future earnings ??? WHAT future earnings. He had a future??

2002-02-24 09:45:35 PM
Oh good god, it's only a matter of time something like this happens to me...only my mom won't sue....throw a party maybe, but not sue.

2002-02-24 09:46:32 PM
Ok, someone stop the planet. I want to get off.

2002-02-24 09:47:48 PM
Nintendo sucks, 30 year-old retards suck, but dying kinda sucks the most. Illiminating insight, I know, I know.

2002-02-24 09:48:27 PM

lol... yup Jerky. yup....

"a guy walks into the doctor's office and says, "doc it hurts when I do this.." (*waves arm around), "can ya do anything for me ?!?!"

Doc says, "Yup, stop doing this..."(*waves arm around )

"His mother is seeking unspecified damages for her own medical and funeral expenses, for mental and emotional anguish, and for her son's lost future earnings."

Her son' s future earnings? At what job, a video game tester?

He must have been telling his Mom "I got an interview next week, I swear..."

2002-02-24 09:49:33 PM
I bought Nintendo GameCube's VR Seizure Source 2002, and after playing it a mere 20 hours a day for 3 weeks(incidentally coinciding with my 30-day fasting period), I nearly choked on my tongue convulsing!!!

I'm suing... I can't believe Nintendo would subject me to this sort of captive-agony!

Oh well, the Cube awaits... Game on!!!

2002-02-24 09:55:13 PM
Well it's only natural that someone would die a Nintendo-related death. He had five chances after getting that 1-UP on Level Four!

2002-02-24 09:55:38 PM
Sounds like he got the power-up and lost the game.

2002-02-24 09:56:06 PM

2002-02-24 09:56:09 PM
There's a cheat code for "no convulsions". Guess he didn't set it before playing.

2002-02-24 09:57:10 PM

Too many powerbreakfasts from his mom...

2002-02-24 09:58:54 PM
Farking DUH, if you know someone has seizures, you WATCH them and get them the fark out of the way of anything they might hit!

Oh and Drew, we need a Sue-EY tag. For the PIGS and their frivolous lawsuits! Soo-EY! Pig pig pig! Get it?

Heh...I just worked an 11-hour day yesterday and a boring 4-hour shift today...need sleep....

2002-02-24 10:00:11 PM

2002-02-24 10:01:19 PM
What game on a nintnedo 64 could you even play 48 hrs a week, I thought they made all that pokemon and little kiddy go kart games? Unless it was Zelda, that game was pretty damn good.

2002-02-24 10:03:42 PM
Get... a farking life! Oh, I mean if you were still alive instead of playing video games to death. What a moron.

2002-02-24 10:04:23 PM
Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Bonk-Head-On-Table, Die.

EVERY GAME COMES WITH THIS:

Photosensitive Seizure Warning
A very small percentage of people may experience a seizure when exposed to certain visual images, including flashing lights or patterns that may appear in video games. Even people who have no history of seizures or epilepsy may have an undiagnosed condition that can cause these "photosensitive epileptic seizures" while watching video games.

These seizures may have a variety of symptoms, including lightheadedness, altered vision, eye or face twitching, jerking or shaking of arms or legs, disorientation, confusion, or momentary loss of awareness. Seizures may also cause loss of consciousness or convulsions that can lead to injury from falling down or striking nearby objects.

Immediately stop playing and consult a doctor if you experience any of these symptoms. Parents should watch for or ask their children about the above symptoms - children and teenagers are more likely than adults to experience these seizures.

The risk of photosensitive epileptic seizures may be reduced by taking the following precautions:
Play in a well-lit room
Do not play when you are drowsy or fatigued
If you or any of your relatives have a history of seizures or epilepsy, consult a doctor before playing.

So we'll add this one to the list of retard lawsuits....joining: burned nipple from McD's coffee, bad Michael Jackson seats, "Girls Gone Wild/I want my money for being naked at Mardi Gras", women suing shock jock, the list goes on.....

Playing Nintendo for 48 hours a week, how would you know if he's dead?
