Someone's getting fired. Then again - are we really surprised? Firefox is superior in every way to Internet Exploder.

I submitted this yesterday and it actually went to the Register website.

What language is that?

Klingon?

Been using Mozilla since 1.2, never seen the need to try Firefox/Phoenix/whateveritistoday.

Proof that Firefox is the best browser for surfing porn.

Firefox is the shiznit. Moving From IE to Firefox is like switching from a Black and White Sony Watchman to a 50 in plasma screen HDTV.

Bringing up this site in Firefox 1.0PR1 on a Mac caused Firefox to crash... interesting. MacOS X version of Firefox crashes about twice a day for me... I should switch to Safari.

aka
"We blew it. You will not ask me again."

I cannot stand people that use buzzwords and phrases like "Moving forward..." or "having said that". Typical corporate non-comments.

Hahahaha. Microsoft loves self-ownage.

2004-11-24 09:09:38 AM
No surprise, since MS said they will not have a new version of IE until 2006. I guess they are tired of waiting for a more secure browser, as well.

2004-11-24 09:09:50 AM
This was on slashdot a few days ago. They posted the picture using firefox on purpose -- it's supposed to show that MSN can be viewed on multiple browsers.

it seems obvious to me that a company of micosoft's size would seek out an duse the best web browser solution. Its not like with car companies where they can supply their own cars to the employees for less money. Mozilla and IE are both free.

Firefox is good, other than the fact that once a week it dumps all my bookmarks, driving me INSANE! UGH!

I know I'm going to get made fun of for saying this, but can anyone just give me a bullet point list of why Firefox is so good? I'm at work, so I'm stuck with IE, but I'm really curious about why everyone thinks it's so great. I know that microsoft sucks and that IE is very vulnerable to a lot of crap, but what are the GOOD points of firefox? thanks.

2004-11-24 09:11:08 AM
Erm, they were trying to make the point that their engine is accessible by alternative browsers. It is mentioned in the original article. They're still working on good Opera support, IIRC.

"They posted the picture using firefox on purpose -- it's supposed to show that MSN can be viewed on multiple browsers."

Then why did they deny using it?

I worked at Microsoft.
I used Firefox.

It made a painful existence much less so. I even filled out my online timesheet on Microsoft's internal website with Firefox. I didn't care. :)

Keep up the good works, farkers... its gonna be a long day at the office today.

to numerous to list, just try a farkle search for Firefox and you should get several lists of great extensions, Including the new Farit plug-in.

You can't blame the guys at Microsoft for using Firefox...

I cleaned up the computer of a friend of mine who'd been using IE exclusively. A scan with Ad-aware revealed over 2200 critical entries (files, registry entries, folders, etc.). This guy had "layers" of spyware installed on his system and could hardly access the web because IE kept redirecting his requests to other sites.

Not a likely contingency with Firefox.

2004-11-24 09:14:55 AM
Big problem with Firefox right now is that it cannot save a webpage in any form but text.

IE6 is crap, but it can save most webpages in HTML and the graphics too. Firefox needs to correct this issue in the next release.

/Obviously "IE Crashalot" still needs some serious improvements.

2004-11-24 09:15:07 AM
Brian Peterson, of Microsoft's PR firm Waggener Edstrom, said: "None of our approved/distributed screen shots of MSN Search were made using a Mozilla Firefox browser. Moving forward, we will not be commenting on this issue".

Oh really?

I'll give you just one: Gator.

Use IE and visit a Gator-backed site and, well, you're well and truly farked. Use firefox and it's not a problem.

I love to see everyone boasting about how great Mozilla is because IE is such crap. I'm sure it has better security for now, but why do you think IE is so vulnerable? It's because most internet users still use it primarily. If firefox becomes the number one browser, it's only a matter of time before people start concentrating on breaking it's security, and those spyware making biatches figure out how to hijack it. You firefox people are just like MAC lovers, so convinced your product is superior. Seriously, give it time.

I've used IE since my dial up days and I've never got a virus, or spyware (and I don't use any anti-virus, and just the firewall in my router for protection). Maybe that means I just know how to use a browser, who knows.

You're definitely wrong about that (I saved this thread as HTML with images just now). You might be using an outdated version.

I agree but you quoted me, when I quoted FarkSC, lol.

I used Farkit, so the quote attribution is Bold, and quote is Italicized.

It's the perfect browser for Farking!

Tabbed browsing -- end the litter of buttons for different windows on your task bar when you've got multiple threads and multiple articles open.

Extensions -- all kinds of third party addons that make things easier like block ads or the exquisite Farkit extension by Fnord that filled in and formatted your name and quote for me with a right click.

Superior popup blocking -- you forget they exist

No ActiveX -- drive by downloads of trojans and other nasty shiat doesn't happen.

I really love it though not to the evangelical degree that some Farkers do. Give it a try at home.

I don't know what version of Firefox you're using, but my version has the option to save as a "web page, complete." In fact, it's the default option.

Cross browser web site cool. Now if I only had a reason to use another search engine other than google.

As someone who has used IE, FireFox and Opera - I really, really, *really* don't see what everyone is talking about.

I keep hearing claims that FireFox is faster than IE. (Hell, go to the Opera webpage and you'll see that they claim to be the *fastest* browser out...even faster than the much-loved FireFox).

So, yeah, if anyone of the many FireFox promoters could point me to some study/Benchmark comparing the speeds of several browsers it would really lend some credibility to the cries of 'IE SUCKS'.

I'm not defending IE, but I've looked for actual figures and couldn't find anything to support anyone's claims of being faster.

2004-11-24 09:21:37 AM
The best thing about Firefox has got to be its speed, graphics load very quickly; I give 2 thumbs up!
