Obviously because Switzerland has the ideal climate for growing the stuff.

"Dispelling the image of the Netherlands as a haven of hash-lovers, young people in this country showed only an average level of cannabis use."

Well, the Euro is trading high compared to most of the major dank-producing countries, so a bag of kind bud costs like, 25 cents there?

Not to mention almost every household has a weapon in Switzerland, and school shootings are rare.

Arm the people, buzz the kids! Not really different from Ritalin, really.

yeah i live in switzerland. we used to have a five minute break between two periods of chemistry, so we figured it was enough to smoke a joint. so we did. ah the good old days. now i am too lazy to call my dealer. the fact that alcohol is so expensive in bars is the route cause.

and for your info, indoor 5g is about 50.- that means say 40$ outdoor 8-10g is 50.-

dodgy brown seedy weed from outside l'usine in geneve is about 50.- for 3g, unless you have liberian friends...

Lived there three years. Got to say that some sort of artificial stimulation was vital, or you'd lose it. They're just so boring. Suicide is another means of escape there.
And those Zurich junkies? Sad.

I remember wandering the streets of Bern late one night looking for a bar, a beer and some fun. Eventually found a bar and wished I hadn't. The few customers really looked suicidal.
A Swiss guy told me a joke once. Excruciating experience.

Best thing? The scenery.

You guys aren't making a good case to visit the place.

I just met my first Swiss person recently. She was a hot chick who was on tour with a good band that shall remain nameless. Anyhoo, let's just say that the agricultural quality that NE Oklahoma provides seemed to catch her off-guard. Either that or she was just a lightweight.

Yeah, and that clamp-lookin thing in their army knife is supposed to be 'scissors'. Nobody is fooled Swiss dudes.

I was in Switzerland this summer and saw two teenagers smoking what appeared to be pot or hash or something. We were in a train car at the time and for some reason there was no smell. It wasn't a particularly interesting event but this article jogged my memory of it. I wonder what they were smoking?

2004-11-20 07:09:40 AM
That's why they have the reputation of being so cool under pressure.

Switzerland is not part of the EU (yet) and therefore does not use the Euro (and even being in the EU is no guarantee of Euro usage) Try Swiss francs. (1.00 US DOLLAR (USD) = 1.1617 SWISS FRANC (CHF))

Ha! I noticed how everyone seemed so laid back when I was there. I was thinking it was the gorgeous scenery. Now I know better. Now I also think I understand why their business hours are from about 9am-10am, three days a week.

I was really suprised by the age group in question, 11-15, I mean what does that reflect for the country. When I was in High School we had an exchanged student from Bilbao, Spain. She said in spain she was only a light drinker, because she only got drunk on thursday, friday, saturday.

/What a beautiful continent

Yeah, I went with my nephews on a Boy Scout trip a few years ago, and the first thing my younger nephew saw was a guy smoking a joint right in front of God and everybody, in a perfectly public area, like it was no big whoop. He was so impressed he took a picture.
They were also impressed by a guy in the train station toting a rifle.

As a current resident of Basel, Switzerland, let me say that this town is or was considered the hemp mecca for Switzerland. Until about 2 years ago, pot smoking was essentially legal. There was a hemp shop on every corner selling it openly, and everyone was walking down the street smoking weed. It was about as popular as nicotine.

Then the local residents decided they'd had enough of a perpetually stoned youth and people holding hemp festivals here so the police cracked down on the shops. They're all gone now and one must now make a modicum of effort to get the stuff, but it's still everywhere, and it's (to my knowledge) never been something you can get arrested over.

Lindt chocolate rules! Even their dark chocolate is great (and I'm no fan of dark chocolate). I don't have much of it anymore since I turned diabetic, but at least their reduced sugar and sugar-free chocolate is just as tasty.

/seriously Jonesin' for some right now..

amen to that socodog...

Immediately after college my best friend and I spent our summer traversing Europe. We told our families we were "sight seeing". In reality we spent our days and nights talking to pot dealers. You ever want to find some one who speaks english in Europe. Find a dealer. He probably has a better handle on English than you do. It was literally the most and the last time I smoked pot.

Next time I'll tell the tale on why my daughter will never stay in a hostel. Or as we called them the "Sex-tel".

I got a ticket in Zurich for crossing the street during a parade. Once when a candy wrapper fell out of my pocket I was confronted by a cop which almost resulted in my arrest. The people all go to bed around 8:30pm. Your neighbors routinely spy on you and you can't change your address w/o notifying the police.

there's a canabis plantation 4 km from where i live. several weed stores downtown and yes, cannabis beer...

i love it here!!!

I used to live 5 minutes away from the Dutch-German border. We had a lot of weekend potheads but when you are really close, you don't bother much about it anymore.

I remember a wedding of a friend of mine. Of the two couples to get wed at the same time, the other groom was persian. So my friend asked us to buy some grams in holland to entertain the persian party posse. As far as I remember, they never showed up to the waltz but were rather taking it slow outside :-))

However, I always suspected that joints were the reason for the Swiss being soooooo slooooooow ;-)

One of the show's best med-pot references was when Bart's dog knocks a bag of weed out of a blind man's pocket. The blind guy says, "Uh, it's medicinal. Without it, I could go... even blinder." One cop says, "He has a point, Chief."

Bonzo_1116: "Dispelling the image of the Netherlands as a haven of hash-lovers, young people in this country showed only an average level of cannabis use."

I've met a number of dutch kids, at least in Amsterdam, who tend to think coffee shop pot is for tourists and old people. I guess decriminalization doesn't send the wrong message to teenagers afterall.

Yea,

I have family down there so the adjustment should be nice and smooth. Plus the chicks down there love us American men. I'm already working a few hotties from the Porto Alegre area.

If you hold the smoke in your lungs for a long time, like 40 sec, there's almost no smell. My friend and I smoke a 1-hit, and you could be in the same room and not know we were smoking. (From the smell...)

Every day, europe is looking better and the U.S. is looking worse...in 20 years, when european countries have the highest quality of life, maybe the U.S. will wake up and realize it's done something wrong. Nah, not likely.

Hey! Twenty years has passed already... from 2004's UN Quality of life rankings:

Norway, Sweden, Australia, Canada and the Netherlands rank as the best five countries to live in but Africa's quality of life is plummeting because of AIDS, says a UN report released on Thursday.

The United States is ranked in eighth place, a drop of one position from 2003 in the report that rates not only per capita income but also educational levels, health care and life expectancy in measuring a nation's well-being.

The Human Development Index, prepared by the UN Development Program, is issued annually and includes every country for which statistics are available.
