anyone who likes larson should check out the book "The prehistory of the far side" Just for the rejected cartoons alone it's a great collection.

The rejected ones are AWESOME.

"Shhh! The maestro is decomposing."
2004-11-19 02:04:14 AM
Not a rejected one, but one he changed himself, was "aligators bobbing for babies" I must-of laughed at that for hours.
soooo sick; it's great.

I forget whose, but it's my favorite Family Circus recaptioning ever

Between Larson and Disfunctional Family Circus. I think my sense of humor has become slightly twisted over the years.

canook - i've got quite a few larson comics from kazaa ... but on the internet it's difficult to find an actual collection ... he went around and did that whole "copyright" thing and threatened to sue everyone ... most people backed down and removed their collections.

if anyone can find a good collection, post the html ...

Where's the love for Marmaduke and Ziggy? We all need short, big nosed men to crack us up, right?

Almost forgot another favorite of mine being Red Meat.

I must have wasted days Here.

So much cartoon greatness your head would explode!!

Also can't pass up the opportunity to plug my own comic, which hasn't been updated in a while aside from editorial cartoons, but I still insist is not permadead.

The Far Side farking ruled.

"Luposlipophobia: The fear of being pursued by timber wolves around the kitchen table while wearing socks on a newly waxed floor."

Far Side is simply the best strip ever.

Though I must say, lately Dilbert has begun mimicking real life entirely too much.

And, every now and them there is a Pearls Before Swine gem suitable for framing.

I present, Box O' Stupid People.

My fav Far Side:

Two cows in their living room watching the phone ring, one says to the other "There it goes again, and we just sit here without opposable thumbs"

Latest favorite... Get Fuzzy

Greatest Far Side I ever saw was with gumby being tortured on the rack.

The caption was something along the lines of "Secret Agent Gumby falls into frustrated enemy hands"

Alas, I have never been able to find it again.

I had the first Garfield book when I was 7 or 8 and some of the early ones were pretty funny.

Larson for comic art is what Steven Wright is to spoken word is what Robin Williams is to acting is to what Python is to sketch comedy is to what

whatever happened to Steven Wright...?

My favorite "Far Side"...

A multi-story building with a sign reading "Crisis Center", flames streaming from the windows, occupants waving their arms in terror, as the building floats downriver...toward a waterfall...

"bummer of a birthmark Hal"
Great job submitter

I suppose I must give my nod, two winks, and a polished muskrat seal of approval to this submission.

Garfield sucked after Lyman left the strip.

Kinda like how the episodes of M*A*S*H without Henry Blake suck.

God I love Gary Larson.

guy in guy incognito:

did you get that from Emerson College's Hyena magazine? they were known for recaptioning Family Circus cartoons.
2004-11-19 01:41:18 PM
I was always a big fan of the one where the penguin slips on the banana peel in the middle of the antarctic ice field. Or the one where the bird is in the cage by the cuckoo clock, and shouts "send help" when the cuckoo comes out. Oh oh... and the one where the two guys are stranded on the island and the one guy sets up a printing press to make a newspaper that reads, "Ned's A Whiner" .... oh, and also.... this could go on for a while....

He was reincarnated as Mitch Hedburg.

"Every morning I get up and make myself a bowl of instant oatmeal. Then I do nothing for an hour."

GREZ SUR LOING!?!?! What the hell kind of a name is that.
And he lived there for four years!? (The French-speakers are astounded: The Swedish need to get out and drink more.)

Further proof that (with the huge exception of politics) most all Farkers think alike.
2004-11-19 05:17:13 PM
I wonder how many Farkers didn't get the headline.
2004-11-19 05:54:51 PM
All the good cartoonists quit while their ahead,

because otherwise they go stale and all they're remembered by is the crap at the end. Like henderson and garfield, which actually didn't suck too bad in the beginning.

Did I actually type their? Good lawd.
