If there are good pics of these "slaughterhouses", you can bet your blinking blue balls that FOX News Channel would be showing them every ten minutes.

Alas, this hasn't happened.

I know people like Ashcroft have claimed that they're "not against homosexual people, just homosexual acts" to paraphrase, but that's not really the case.

Someone might be homosexual, in that they are attracted sexually to people of their own gender, and yet might never actually engage in any sexual act, or even kiss someone. But I'd be willing to bet a lot of money that there are people who would still hate him just because he has those feelings. Allowing homosexuals to marry doesn't mean they are necessarily having sex, so why do they have a problem with that?

Personally I think someone should be showing the true Iraq whether it is the media or our government. Saw on the news that someone is releasing a dvd with footage of all kinds of sick things that went on in Iraq before we took out Saddam. I also saw an interview of Hassan where she talked about how the standard of living in Iraq was decent before the first time we kicked Saddams a$$ (you know, the one that the UN approved) and after that how many people lived in squalor without electricity and running water. Saddam was so concerned about the welfare of his people that he didn't bother to fix power and water infrastructure but had plenty of resources to build multiple palaces.
Anything our soldiers did in Abu Grahib or a mosque pales in comparison to the stuff that happened before we got there. I'm not defending the bad things we have allegedly done there just trying to keep things in perspective.

The more reports I read and see about these kinds of atrocities the more I'm glad the USA had the guts to do something about it.

"Attention Liberals
Just get over it and go back to 1969 and start spitting on Vets as then return home."

myth. created to demonize the anti-war effort.

well documented.

Three years later, sociologist Jerry Lembcke conducted a similarly exhaustive study for his book, The Spitting Image, with like results. He discovered war protesters being spat upon by war supporters, and hostile acts toward Vietnam veterans by conservative, pro-war groups like the VFW, but no taunting or spitting on returned veterans by peace movement members. Returned veterans and in-service GIs were welcomed in the peace movement, and many assumed leadership roles. Yet the myth endures

Since you missed the point, let me explain.

I was simply stating point that people toss statements around here that typically are accepted as fact such as the once cited. That's it. Nothing more. Nothing less. You, in typical farker fashion didn't bother to see that and decided to use it as fuel for your flame..And you did it rather rudely, another trait of the moronic posters that go on ad-nausea in these troll infested threads.

I'd recommend you take a few pointers from Mr. Gumbo Pants.

That was WAY, WAY too nice for a FARK post. Please insert more asshat/fundie/neocon/right-wing-nut-job/etc into your post next time.

BTW, it isn't a crime to think that homosexuality is wrong. Unfortunately, many are called homophobic (note: irrational FEAR of gays) because they disagree with it on a moral level. It's much the same way with abortion.

/not saying I support or oppose either, just playing devil's advocate today.

I'd like to think that the West isn't as obsessed with tasteless gore as the fanatics. That would explain the absence of graphic photos from Ground Zero and the Diana Car Crash.
There IS a thing called class.
Even students of mine who checked out the beheadings only did it once, saying they just felt dirty and grossed out, and a bit guilty, for doing it.

mungtor - I also find it interesting how people alternately accuse others of dehumanizing the enemy, and then state that we're supposed to be better than them. If we're all human, we all have the same flaws. If we define somebody else as both human and better, what does that make everybody else? Subhuman?

So true.

MrGumboPants, show me the "verifiable" evidence that all American soldiers do is torture prisoners and shoot in questionable situations. I find it hard to believe that you actually think the US military is only capable of committing atrocities.

Playing D.A. is fine with me.

No, it's perfectly legal to hate people for any reason at all. I sure as hell won't disagree with that. However, they claim the moral highground because of their religion, and they base their hatred off of their religion, yet they seem to ignore the far more fundamental tenants of the same religion they're using as justification for their feelings. Christianity is supposed to be about forgiveness and love, not being judgmental and hateful.

There's not much of a line, if any, between intelligence-gathering and inspections. After all, you don't send inspectors unless you're not exactly trusting the hosts to be giving full and accurate disclosures; hence they're supposed to find information which the hosts aren't willing to volunteer.

That said, one might also note that even if the inspectors were secretly running around taping Saddam with his hypothetical mistress or other non-WMD related details, it would have been arguably smarter on his part to play along. Kicking them out, and pulling idiotic blunders such as trying to assassinate an *ex*-president and Kuwaiti emir with practically no conceivable benefit for Iraq or Saddam other than a few hours of satisfaction before the carrier battle groups might begin to move, did not exactly help his cause. Nor did their decision not to document any and all WMD destruction they did on the side.

The media is far too interested in stories of "man bites dog". They should be giving equal time to any story in which a dog bites a man, as it is only fair. The fact that they don't do so shows that the media is biased in favor of dogs.

Oh and let's not stop there. DO not forget that the shelf life of most BINARY WMDs loaded into a shell is about 3 weeks. You won't find shells, you will find dual purpose chemicals like "pesticides/sarin" in 55 gallon drums and seed stocks in people's refridgerators. The Dueffler report even stated there was a 5% chance we would still find WMD. It also explicitly said the thread of Saddam's WMD programs was greater than thought. Let's resurect this horse so we can beat it some more:

Saddam was worse than we thought:

See, you used the word hate. I never did. Just because you think something that someone does is wrong does not mean you hate that person. Does a parent hate its child when the child misbehaves? No. Does the parent try to enact rules in the house to encourage certain conduct? Certainly.

I believe that many in the Left assume that those in the Right hate gays, when this is probably not the case (I can only speak for myself, not others). Personally, I really don't care what Bob and Bill do - get legal status as partners, whatever, I don't care. If a gay couple wishes for the same rights as a married heterosexual couple, I have no problem with it. What I do have a problem with is redefining marriage to be something other than what it has been for 6,000 or so years. Of course, that means I hate gays according to most folks here in good old California, so I can't say it out loud without being called a homophobe (I certainly have no irrational fear of gays), a bigot, and a right-wing nutjob.

I really just wish the extremism on both sides would go away. If the Left could see that the Right has valid concerns and if the Right could see that the Left isn't nearly as Commie as it's been portrayed, we could all get along wonderfully. Of couse, this won't happen, so we get asinine flame wars on FARK.

Hmmm...so perhaps the states outlawing gay marriage are passing laws that are unconstitutional. But failing to consider this and not being informed about the issues before you vote doesn't mean you're unpatriotic or anything.

2004-11-18 02:19:12 PM
I haven't seen any pictures of the slaughterhouses, but they're either too gruesome or too boring to be published. If the victims' bodies are still there, then they'd be too gruesome, if there are just blood stains and shiat, then they look like every picture of Iraq for the last 20 months (too boring).

Of course, you can think it's just liberal bias if you like.

2004-11-18 02:20:07 PM
Maybe the slaughter houses are are like the WMD's - not there. I am sure the hostages were killed somewhere, but the idea of "slaughterhouses" seems silly.

Were they processing the meat? (sorry)

Were there so many hostages killed that they needed to set up slaughterhouses to keep up with all the killing?

I think "slaughterhouses" is a great word to drum up anger/sympathy from the world but until I see pictures of blood splashed walls and bodies of mutilated hostages lined up in one of these places, I won't believe they found these so called slaughterhouses.

I am sure they found places where hostages were kept, and found evidence of torture of murder (we've all seen the videos), but I think the term "slaughterhouses" is more for sensationalism than anything else.
