publicaccessstar, the G4 server was down yesterday.

Am I the only person that thought Sumi Das was the hottest TechTV gal?
2004-11-13 01:04:17 PM
Yes. Yes you were.

2004-11-13 01:05:07 PM
TechTV has sucked ever since G4 took over.

2004-11-13 01:05:38 PM
ok that's it I'm never ever watching that channel again, it used to be great but ever since the G4 merger it's been nothing but filler shows about games, not that I don't enjoy a few shows about copmuter games, but there is more to computers then games
2004-11-13 01:05:51 PM
Attention Geekdom!

You can vote with your TiVo!

Do like I did. Remove any TiVo Season Passes for The Screen Savers and Unscrewed. (Well, OK, Unscrewed is gone anyway.) The Screen Savers got so lame I couldn't even watch in 2x skip-crap mode.

DELETE G4TechTV from your Favorite Channels list.

The PHBs at Comcast will know. They won't get it, but they'll know.

Leo mentioned that they looked at TiVo logs and knew exactly when geeks watching and were freeze framing to see, umm *interesting* frames.

ZDTV during the bubble was a riot (Dvorak's guests predicting 4000NASDAQ/14000DOW).

G4 is simply a `refined' version of the initial iteration of MSNBC (MSBS) when they'd have little `tech' tips delivered by the animated MS BOB - pure marketing puke. Only G4 has managed to collect up and pile all the nastiest of the steaming chunks into the HSN for clueless, but flush, punks.

/removed from channel list with extreme predjudice
2004-11-13 01:18:19 PM
Need to display more prejudice with my sp.

/tech curmudgeon: own two functioning C-64's and an operating pair of `laser' tag pistols built from design in an `84 BYTE mag.
2004-11-13 01:21:09 PM
come on people want to see an entire channel about video games. xplay isn't bad but the one with the two guys is horrible. i'd rather watch paint dry.

how can G4 think they know what to do? they take the successful shows and change them to be like their unsuccessful shows.

i paid an extra $10 a month for 20 channels and the only one i watched was G4, well i guess i can save $10 a month.
2004-11-13 01:21:17 PM
The hell? Why aren't my pics in the main thread? They worked for other people, and they showed up in the preview...

/2 pic filter now?
2004-11-13 01:21:48 PM
During my last two years of college I paid for the digital box and digital tier exclusively for TechTV. My roommate and I would watch TSS everyday, and we'd think that the people on that show were like us. I didn't miss more than a couple episodes for an entire year.

I loved Tech Live, they'd break tech stories 3 months before Dateline.

I learned of the EFF from TechTV. I used to record 3 different programs on my DVR, now just XPlay, which I'll likely lose when G4's pre-merger ratings decline takes it under.
2004-11-13 01:25:25 PM
ZDTV had the hottest babes. Kate, and the Internet Tonight lady what was here name? Also Sumi Das I still have some shows on vhs. And the Surf Guru was a total freak, he was great. For a while Leo and Kate had a real cult thing going.
To flamers: " Yes I have a girlfriend, no I don't live at home in my moms basement, and yes I acknowlege that you are superior because you don't " now leave us alone.
2004-11-13 01:37:12 PM
The REALLY sad part is...somehow, with this dumb merger, the G4 programming side has gone downhill as well. Arena was actually fun to watch, when Wil Wheaton was "announcer". had some interesting, if unimportant discussion about *games*. the filter lists weren't quite as predictable. Of course, the rest of the programming felt like thinly veiled infomercials, but tech tv was on another channel. So I guess my point is that the merger neutered not one but 2 channels. Blech.
2004-11-13 01:38:27 PM
This network was crap to begin with, stayed crap, and is crappier now, and anyone who would order it is a moron.
2004-11-13 01:55:12 PM
i used to watch it on (non-digital) cable until they moved it to digital cable and replaced it with a spanish channel. imagine how pissed i was when i came home and was greeted by some stupid spanish talk show instead of tss.

good things never last
2004-11-13 02:09:21 PM
TSS, CFH, X-Play, Unscrewed were some of my only reasons to watch tv and for all you "hardcore" asshats who keep saying this stuff was for wannabies I am a computer engineer and i assure you i didn't need any help with my programming, but I watched just for viewing pleasure.
2004-11-13 02:11:31 PM
zdtv was the best.

Gamespot TV kicked the crap out of extended play, which totally owns x-play.

/it's ruined
2004-11-13 02:17:33 PM
Whatever happened to Robot Wars and Future Fighting Machines? FFM was really cool and the British guy on Robot Wars was funny in Red Dwarf. When I first got Comcast last year, these were two of my favorite shows during late night if Leno was stupid. Fark you Comcast. Fark you G4.
2004-11-13 02:21:48 PM
It's bizarre...

Kate and Leo were great, but then again, in the late 90s, it was more interesting to watch back then. Computer innovations aren't what they used to be.

Patrick and Leo were great too. The strange thing is Leo always made the show fun, even though he's an old geezer. I'd rather watch Leo partner with anybody than I would Kevin and Alex. Why keep Kevin but fire Alex, they're equal in my eyes.

Yoshi was cool, I guess. Nothing great, but nothing against him either. He had some sweet mods, like the PC with 4-5 consoles built in. That was pimptastic.

Bring back Leo, Patrick and Megan Morrone!!!
2004-11-13 02:22:57 PM
The only shows I ever watched on the channel were TSS and CFH. Nothing is left, and G4 just blows major ass!
2004-11-13 02:30:52 PM
Eh, TSS was dead already. It died officially after Leo was let go. Kevin as host? What in the heck? Kevin is smart and all but he wasn't ready for Prime Time.

Unscrewed was nothing great, anyway.

G4TechTV was a bumblefark to begin with. This is not surprising.
2004-11-13 02:39:36 PM
If I remember correctly, CNet did have a TV show at some point. I remember getting up several early mornings to find it on SciFi and the USA network.

I second the person that said they refuse to watch anything with Tommy Tolleraco(sp?) in it. Good gravy that guy is annoying, his co-host/biatch/whatever is only slightly less so.
He made some pretty good game soundtracks, he knows his music. What the frell kind of authority on games does that make him?
2004-11-13 02:41:03 PM
We had to give up either cable TV or internet access when we moved here, and TechTV was one of the reasons I had lookd forward to getting TV back. Blech.
And a nasty little bit of irony? Guess who just assimilated our local Insight cable provider. Yep, my address is now, and I'm fairly underwhelmed by their service. Blech again.

someone else who remembers old school f/x? I enjoyed the cool set, quirky shows and the fact that I could watch The Green Hornet again for the first time in far too many years.
Then they turned into another 'ooo, aren't we edgy? Look how edgy we are, aren't we the stuff? Look, we're *edgy*!' network. Needless to say, it's no longer on my 'I miss TV' list.
2004-11-13 02:41:32 PM
Oh, and more love for Adam & Morgan on Xplay. Adam does need to stop playing the fallguy routine so much, he was able to hold his own w/ Kate on Extended Play without coming across as totally sad. Although he does seem more...comfortable around Morgan.

2004-11-13 02:44:12 PM
Sumi Das was responsible for quite a few kittens
2004-11-13 02:46:22 PM
Martin is a great talent. I hope he's picked up again somewhere else.
2004-11-13 02:47:55 PM
2004-11-13 02:49:18 PM
Screw G4/TTV. only 3 people left that rock are Sarah, Morgan and Kevin... give the channel time, they will find a way to screw those three eventually. Would be cool to see those released head north and join Leo. I was thinking of upgrading to Digital Cable... not anymore.
2004-11-13 02:55:07 PM
Martin is a tool. Goodbye not-so-funnyman!

Yoshi's bling-bling case mods are pathetic. Good riddence.
2004-11-13 02:55:57 PM
Yeah, this is deffinately a bummer. The only show I really watched was TSS. It was half-assed but entertaining, what can I say... better than anything else they offer. Unscrewed was nice to flip to during commercials.
2004-11-13 02:58:07 PM
I swear if kevin and sarah are hosts starting monday or some shiat, and there holding hands during segments, im going off on G4.

Alex wasnt that bad, their trips onto the border of piracy was getting a bit weird........ And there was the day kevin opened the folder and there was warez there, and he mistyped the site during a live call and porn popups hit the screen(no nudity though)

I think the peak was the day kevin had the shirt on, that was the line......... wait everyone else got fired? wtf. I dont mind him staying, but why fire alex? I dont think hewas that bad, he was just finnaly getting used to it I think.
2004-11-13 02:58:45 PM
The Screen Savers turned to utter garbage when they fired Pat and Leo and brought in a studio audience. Pat and Leo had complimentary personalities and it was really fun to watch them interact, not to mention you'd glean actual knowledge at the same time. Patrick was always a step or two ahead of Leo, but Leo would never shut up. Hilarious.

Without Patrick and Leo, all that forced applause and cheering from the crowd makes it doubly unwatchable. Plus, they use the most nervous and unnatural hosts. Kat Schwartz is super-hot? She looked like she wanted to crawl out of her skin most of the time on that show. That guy who takes them in and out of commercial break is a stammering shiatwit. I'm glad they fired all those turds.

It's been horrifying to watch this network implode. When I found it in 2001, it had real content and you always learned something from watching it. Now they play Robot Wars ten times a day and replay the same recorded info bits about DVD players and "digital media devices" every ten goddamn minutes.

Kevin is relatively cool to watch compared to the rest of the utter spazoids they foisted on us with that show. I'd like to spank his little midget girlfriend. You can see he's got some mad tech skeelio.

X-Play is not as good as the previous incarnation of the show (Extended Play?), but they do seem to give honest reviews and for some reason Adam Sessler cracks me up. It's by far the best games-related show on TV.

Arena is totally misconceived. They should show mostly "in-game" footage, with commentary giving context to the action. Make it like a sport, not a farking even lamer version of "Video and Arcade Top Ten" (a show on YTV here in Canada which had kids standing there playing N64. It was almost all talking to shy, inarticulate kids who are distracted by the game they're playing, with very little actual gameplay featured.)

Can someone sort out this Tech TV Canada thing for me? I wondered why Leo was only on Call for Help and not on any other Tech TV shows.

BTW the little smiley hostess on Call For Help is unbearably cute. Do they film that in Toronto? I swear I'll go apply for a job there.
2004-11-13 02:59:06 PM
I liked unscrewed, most of the time. Atleast it reached a pitch where boundries were challenged enough to lead to a 'ok, that's just stupid' conclusion, rather than recycling the same old unchallenging pablum. Laura didn't hurt, either. I'm sad to see that go.

TSS was great with Pat, Leo and Kevin. Alex took it down a bit, but was bearable. The tech became less of a focus, and it was passed up more and more. Such a shame. I remember some interviews Leo did with internet/computer visionaries... feeling very fortunate to witness such things. G4 merger was the start of the end... the last couple 'X days' (where X=gta: san andreas, halo 2) show their new-found whoring tendancies. I hope they band together with, as Leo has done.
2004-11-13 02:59:34 PM
This thread should be sent to the asshats listed in I'm That Guy's post.
2004-11-13 03:01:31 PM
I always had a soft spot for Adam Sessler. Seemed like the kind of guy I could hang out with. A lot of my friends act like him, have simular senses of humor...

And when it was Extended Play, he held the show all by himself just fine. He was funny, a lot of his stuff seemed unscripted (even if they were) and it didn't rely so much on prescripted skits involving torturing interns. They just made fun of the bad games, made funny comments on the good ones, and let it go from there.

That, and they didn't have to pander to whatever gaming company paid them the most money to plug something on the air.

Morgan and Adam are a good team, but Adam needs to dust off his brain and start using it on the air again.
2004-11-13 03:03:13 PM
Arena barely taps the potential in broadcasting LAN games,

That was my complaint. I'd never seen G4TTV until recently, and for some reason I was under the misguided notion that they DID broadcast games like that (WCG, ESWC, etc), as if it were a sports broadcast... hell, plenty of online games have live shoutcasters nowadays.

But no, instead there's Arena, gaming's answer to the WWF. Seriously, what the fark is up with that show? Is that an ex-American Gladiator hosting it? Why spend money producing a crap, fake-ass show about competitive gaming when for less money you could just cover an ACTUAL tournament that ACTUAL gamers are interested in? Corporate incompetence at its finest...
2004-11-13 03:08:42 PM

It's figures that the Founder of G4-TechTV is a dumbass past executive of FOX TV.

Now I know why G4-TechTV will go under.

2004-11-13 03:10:47 PM
eh. well then petitions are false hope.

there is one other way to get back at them. HACK THEIR SITE. lol that is all.
2004-11-13 03:11:28 PM
Chris Pirillo and Martin Sargeant. Two guys who make me physically uncomfortable when they're on screen, yet they both grew on me like some kind of fungus.

And I have to say, ICONS is the best show on TV. If there's ever a DVD set of ICONS I will be on it like white on rice.
2004-11-13 03:17:12 PM
They're keeping the l33t hax0r Kevin? Awesome! Totally Awesome!
2004-11-13 03:17:56 PM
Oh yeah, I forgot about Sumi Das (fap fap fap) and that blatantly queer guy on Fresh Gear... the tall guy with reddish hair, totally seemed like a gay guy to me. Not that there's anything wrong with that, it's just he would always seem to be making subtle references to it. Anyways, he was funny... I remember he was discussing how he filled up his new MP3 player with "PHIL COLLINS" music. That's how he'd say the name: "PHIL COLLINS" and he'd sort of give this look at the camera, as if to say "yeah sure I loaded it up with Phil Collins and the Oakridge Boys LOLerz". I found it hilarious and now crack up anytime anyone mentions Phil Collins.
2004-11-13 03:18:57 PM
So, who wonders how long it will be until Morgan and Adam get the ol' Heave-ho.

G4 sux, I took it off my sattelite program June 1st. The day G4 took over. Yeah, I miss Morgan and Adam, but if I see these G4 asshats I'm afraid I shoot my TV.
2004-11-13 03:24:32 PM
Wow - I can't believe the recent turn of events to my old, beloved TechTV!

I didn't even know this merger had occured. I pretty much was fading away from TechTV for over a year now and I never even noticed that it had dissappeared from my DirectTV channel list. I just found the "G4" channel again and have my TV set to auto-tune to TSS later this afternoon to see what's happened.

I'm with many of you who remember the good ole ZDTV days with Kate and Leo. I loved it then and watched it every single day along with Call For Help. It was an informative, current and fun network. How about that Kate and Leo dance at the end? Then the TechTV transition which, in many ways was okay. Big studio and cast upgrades and much more polished (for better or worse?).

I actually lost interested in TSS before the merger. Once it went to 90mins. it seemed to take a 50% cut in content with all the extra time devoted to commercials, TechTV promos and other non-tech junk. I hated all the celebrity interview stuff. We hear enough about these Hollywood schmuck's opinions that I didn't need to go thru some 8 minutes of fauning by Leo towards them (bracketed by 8mins of ads and promos) just to find out their "favorite tech gadget" was a cell phone. Alot of the extra cast seemed extraneous, always looking for their 15 seconds in the sun everyday. Alot of, shall we say, left-leaning, San Francisco ideology and commentary started creeping into the show and that was enough for me. I just tuned out.

Now, I hear how far down it's gone. What a shock - I'm anxious to check out TSS later to see how bad it's gotten. I also found my way here to Fark via Leo and company.

I'll miss you all.
2004-11-13 03:28:04 PM
damn... i just realized that they're production facilities are about half a mile from my house.

why have i not seen Morgan Webb? WHY???
2004-11-13 03:34:17 PM
2004-11-13 03:39:05 PM
Sumi Das was the hottest chick ever on TechTV.

I used to watch TSS, Call for Help, and Unscrewed. After the merger I saw about five minutes of some show where the host was talking over a graphic of an PS2 controller saying, "left, left, R1, R2, down, down." Now I don't watch at all.

The old network may not have been perfect, but I did learn lots of little stuff I'd probably not have come across otherwise. I hope another network starts up and hires all the best of the TechTV people.
2004-11-13 03:44:36 PM
Unscrewed was one of the most unfunny television programs I've ever of the cheapest too. God Martin Sargent sucked ass. I'm not suprised it was canceled
2004-11-13 03:48:00 PM

^listen to this guy he knows what he is talking about
2004-11-13 03:54:18 PM
animefx, why must you bring Tom Green into everything. He's not funny!!!
2004-11-13 04:08:59 PM
Oh sweet jesus no. Unscrewed was the only damn show on that channel I watched anymore, and now I'm going to lose my dose of Marty and Swish? G4 needs to burn in hell, we don't want to watch repeats after repeats after REPEATS of crap from years ago. Death. Guess I'll hafta watch Cartoon Network all ass late at night now.
2004-11-13 04:14:56 PM
I remember when it was ZDtv, I miss Kate Botello and Leo.
