You've got to change-up your evil ways.

2004-11-11 04:17:14 PM
Well, I am happy that the East coast bias did not pick Shilling to win. I was a bit concerned about that. The results make me feel happy.

2004-11-11 04:18:00 PM
Johan had a great season up here in MN. Let's hope he can keep it up next year, and in a Twins uniform at that.

Does anyone else out there think that Santana/Ron Thomas "Cool" is a blatant rip-off of Ronnie James Dio's "Rainbow in the Dark"??

2004-11-11 04:18:07 PM
Shoulda been Curt Schilling.

On an unrelated note, I'm getting sick of seeing this girl in Yahoo ads.

2004-11-11 04:19:05 PM
chris burke submitted this article with a funnier headline.

2004-11-11 04:20:00 PM
He was the man this year and its just to bad the twins couldn't put more runs on the board for him earlier in the year, he would have been closer to 25 wins. Anyway, he earned it.

2004-11-11 04:20:48 PM
"My name is Johan Santana"

I mean "Smooth" not "Cool" and "Rob" not "Ron"

Question still valid, though.

moops-
obviously, it should have been schilling. I mean, his era was almost a run higher than supernatural's. Oh and he struck out 60 less batters, but hey...he did win one more game w/ a vastly superior offense than Santana did.
Oh wait, no. Anyone that thinks Schilling should have won the Cy Young over Santana is a grade A baseball moron and should get over their East Coast Bias.

2004-11-11 04:23:21 PM
Excellent headline!!!!!

2004-11-11 04:23:28 PM
Rightfully awarded...

Whoever thinks Schilling should have gotten it doesn't really pay attention to baseball.

2004-11-11 04:23:46 PM
I'm just waiting for the Red Sox to buy him up to replace Bronson Arroyo... because now that they've won, people should notice that they've got the second largest payroll in the AL.

2004-11-11 04:25:52 PM
Santana will win less than 200 games in his career. Write it down now. This in no way diminishes his present accomplishments...he farking owned AL bats this year. I do have a feeling that he will blow his arm out along the line.

Just a black magic Cy Young.

2004-11-11 04:26:40 PM
(if only because most pitchers blow their arms out)

2004-11-11 04:27:29 PM
Carlos Santana plays baseball?

2004-11-11 04:29:24 PM
I think that Johan is 24, or in that vicinity. I'm not why you think he'll blow his arm out, he thows change-ups for a living, not Zito-like curves. I see no reason why he doesn't win at least 200 games, perhaps 300, he is THAT good.

2004-11-11 04:30:06 PM
"Anyone that thinks Schilling should have won the Cy Young over Santana is a grade A baseball moron and should get over their East Coast Bias."

But...but...he's OLD, and GOOD. Sorry, that was a pretty bad troll but I was trying to get into the minds of the average sportswriter who seem to almost invariably long for the "good old days" of the 90's. Yes, yes I remmeber pulling an 89' Donruss Randy Johnson rookie or an 85' Topps Clemens, but come on.

2004-11-11 04:30:51 PM
Santana was better when he was using Thai sticks.

We shall see, at any rate.

I rarely watch baseball because it usually bores me to tears, but I got to see this fella pitch in the playoffs and I was impressed.

2004-11-11 04:32:24 PM
It was a joy watching Santana pitch last season. Unreal what he can do, and he'll be around for many more years. Way 2 Go Santana.

It may be true that I am a little bitter after watching Mulder become decidedly mortal over his last several starts, though.

culebra: FYI...I did write that down.

Cy Young award is for regular season only.

Santana deserves it. Well done.

Even Schilling said (weeks ago) that Johan deserved it. He was unbeatable down the stretch. Well deserved.

Well deserved, kudos to him!

SchauerPower - Since when is there an east coast bias when it comes to MLB season awards?

nl rookie - pittsburgh
al rookie - oakland

nl pitcher - houston
al pitcher - minnesota

nl manager - atlanta
al manager - texas

Yeah Schill posted a remark on the CY Young thread at Sosh, saying that he thought Santana was hands down the winner. Even being a Sox fan, its obvious when you go 13-0 after the Allstar break with like a 1.80 ERA or close to that you are the best pitcher of the year. Schill will be immortalized in Boston, that is reward enough for him.

Anybody want to see pictures of Schilling's nasty Ankle, go to

"1.80"

Actually 1.21. Shades of Bob Gibson before the mounds were lowered I'll admit.

Hear that sound? That chirping noise? Those are crickets. You can hear 'em so well because you're all alone.
