As a resident of the NWT I resent your blatant attempt to supplant the historically significant NWT with some modernistic, politically correct, foreshortened contraction like NT. I put up with it on my mail, there is no way I will ever tolerate it elsewhere. However, I do like Bob in a platonic way.

Norman Wells, where you from?

Harumph! I submitted another article about how renaming the Northwest Territories "Bob" was put down, and it was 20 times funnier than this one.

What the fakr is up with the shiatty-ass mods pulling article selections these days?

Drew, I'm sorry, but I wish your site had never grown so large that you had to distribute responsibilities to others. Your choices in the past (when YOU were the one posting submissions, or at least just you and a couple others) were gems. Your Mods' choices are pure crap.

(Watch a Mod delete this. Who wants to take the bet?)

Who forces you to read this page Syn? Are you paying for it? Whazzat? No? Then take what you get, be happy, and thank Drew &C that they're taking their time/resources to even do this at all.

BOB = battery operated boyfriend

Might get more chicks to move there.

Flakeloaf: Don't assume things about others that you don't know about them. Yes, I do pay for this. I regularly donate cash to Drew via his PayPal account (as I've been doing since I joined the Fark community).

And, as a paying member of this service, as opposed to most of the other non-paying Farkers, I have every fakring right to complain about what goes on. Even if I were NOT a regularly-donating Farker, as a human being I reserve the right to biatch and voice my opinion.

So go shag off, fatboy. That message was meant for the Fark Mods, not for you.

Nordo: Sweet, another Northwest Territorian!

Apologies for the NT vs. NWT thing. I actually don't mind either, though technically Northwest _is_ one word. My preference for this probably happened through being on the NTnet Society board (Non-profit whose goal was to bring the Internet to the communities of the north. I'm not sure how they're doing now, but they used to be the main supplier of bandwidth to the northern ISPs.). They used NT and it _was_ during my formative years. I guess it just sounds more business like. The W does add a bit of mystery and excitement, doesn't it?

I'm from Yellowknife and shamefully haven't been around my home Territory too much. I've been to Inuvik and Fort Smith for meetings, but only for a couple of days and I stayed inside mostly. I also went up to Daring lake on the tundra for some science camp thing (I don't know about you, but in school we got a lot of breaks like these for travel). I was also up at the Diavik Mine site a couple of times.

So are you still in Norman Wells?

Maybe it's a good thing they didn't name it Bob. It would always make me think of a story my friend told me, about an exchange between his brother and a cop who stopped him for speeding:

Cop:"What's your name?"
Cop:"Bob what?"
Bro: (silence)
Cop:"I said, Bob WHAT?"
Bro:"Bob on down here and suck my - "
Sentence interruped by cop's large gloved fist applied forcefully to the face.

He swears this really happened. If his bro is anything like him, it might have.

"But some citizens still don't like the name official name"

are they going to rename it to official name...
as in "I live in YellowKnife, Officialname" instead of
"I live in YellowKnife, Northwest Territories"?

bob would be cool, but it has to be lowercase.

I feel honored, yet disgusted all at the same time.

"Welcome to let's make a dope deal, our first contestant today is Bob biatchen. How's it going Bob?"

2002-02-21 10:05:11 AM
Man, that really sucks ass about the filters.

Oh well, what can you do.
2002-02-21 10:09:35 AM
If they rename the province "Bob", shouldn't they call the capitol Dobbstown?
2002-02-21 10:23:29 AM
Since it IS in Canada, shouldn't it be named, oh, I dunno..., Gordon?
2002-02-21 10:24:24 AM
I just don't know what to say.
2002-02-21 12:04:13 PM
I can't believe they rejected me.
2002-02-21 12:44:02 PM
Wow, I'm disapointed that they didn't realize that the fact that it's a TERRITORY means it isn't a PROVINCE.

"The Province of Northwest Territories?" No.

How are you guys in the state of DC today? ;')
2002-02-21 02:20:30 PM
I know, I know... I'll name one of my kids "Saskatchewan"!!! (...waiting for slap to head from wife...)
2002-02-21 02:35:45 PM

N = north
NW = northwest

Currently resident in Norman Wells, I was a resident of Yellowknife. Dood! I was Secretary-Treasurer of NTnet during the formation of the Society! Your first name wouldn't start with B would it?
2002-02-21 05:34:33 PM
I got a C++ instructor who uses the name "Bob" ALL the time. He names programs Bob, variable names Bob, Bob this Bob that.

Yeah anyhow just thought I'd share that with you...
2002-02-22 06:01:17 PM

Cool. Nah, my name doesn't start with a B. I was a "youth director" or somesuch in the mid nineties 95-97 maybe. I don't want to check my resume :)
