hey hey

2002-02-21 01:49:53 AM
"The Pentagon never lies, but the truth they speak may not be the truth you hear."

2002-02-21 01:50:03 AM
hey hows it going?

2002-02-21 01:50:32 AM
Nah, why lie when telling half-truths is a much easier way to deceive.

2002-02-21 01:51:30 AM
Ahahaha!! Is this for real?? These guys back at the office have got to be laughing their asses off while they type up new propoganda statements.
"When DOD officials speak to the public they tell the truth. Despite some of the reports..." Pff!

2002-02-21 01:54:18 AM
talk about take a big fat sh.it right in the eye of america. now i really want to move to china. at least they will say, "ya, were lying, and if you put up a fight we will cap your ass!". were in america we will get a bed time story the whole time we are being forced to breath in more and more fluems from gov and capitalist sh.it piles!

2002-02-21 01:56:48 AM
I think someday we're going to be looking back at names like "The Office of Strategic Influence" and "The Information Awareness Office" much like today we look back things like "The Un-American Activities Committee.

2002-02-21 02:03:02 AM
Is it time to reel these guys in yet? I'm ready to start the government over.

2002-02-21 02:08:33 AM
Deserves the Ironic tag.

2002-02-21 02:16:28 AM
The Pentagon yesterday: "Tomorrow we're going to start lying to you."

The Pentagon today: "Remember what we said yesterday? We were lying."

*head explodes*

2002-02-21 02:16:45 AM
"We won't lie."

This is, in fact, a lie.

2002-02-21 02:17:27 AM
Like my man Tony Montana sez:

Me, I always tell da troot, even when I liiiieeee.

2002-02-21 02:31:59 AM
So now instead of the Empedoclean Paradox, its the Pentagon Paradox?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/world/americas/newsid_1830000/1830500.stm that's another article about the same thing, but from the bbc. very scary. soma, anyone?

2002-02-21 02:56:59 AM
I was wondering if anyone else would pick up on that WOT reference. To decieve by omission and intimation are tasks that require subtlety indeed, but I'm not worried. From what I can see, these guys are about as subtle as a brick to the head.

2002-02-21 03:48:15 AM
Correction: subtle as a hellfire missile to the head.

We're not Palestinians, for gods sake.

2002-02-21 04:17:04 AM
They shouldn't have told us in advance that they were going to be lying to us... oh well, it won't be long until the Bush bandwagoneers start believing it like the idiots they are.

2002-02-21 04:19:11 AM
Hmmmm.

An office, whose job is to LIE to people, telling us they won't lie to Americans.

And then they hired a PR firm.

Reminds me of something Vladimir Putin said when he visited the US four years ago:

"I feel sorry for Americans because you believe your press. In Russia, everyone knew the press was lying, so it was ineffective."

2002-02-21 04:36:07 AM
Who are they trying to kid?

Oh thats right Newsmax, they would believe the sky was green if the Govt told them.

2002-02-21 04:41:21 AM
Aes Sedai are far more crafty than the government. Far more crafty.

I'll believe the government when monkeys come flyin' out of my urethra.

So far, only mansnot has come out.

talk about take a big fat shiat right in the eye of america. now i really want to move to china. at least they will say, "ya, were lying, and if you put up a fight we will cap your ass!". were in america we will get a bed time story the whole time we are being forced to breath in more and more fluems from gov and capitalist shiat piles!

I hope you really do move to China. One less communist shiatbag is not a vast improvement but every little bit does help.

"ya, were lying, and if you put up a fight we will cap your ass!".

That does sound like a vast improvement over the United States.

time we are being forced to breath in more and more fluems from gov and capitalist shiat piles!

Who exactly is forcing you to do anything? What drugs are you on? Weed is the reason why so many young people have problems keeping on topic but whatever your useing seems to be a little bit stronger then that.

were in america we will get a bed time story

Again... what exactly are you talking about? You seem to have a computer so why not use it to visit the BBC or another nations news media if you think THA MAN is controlling the media here in the United States.

2002-02-21 06:36:17 AM
We're from the government... we're here to help...

From Robert Fisk:

Mr Sharon says. Mr Arafat must end "terrorism", his plot to import Iranian arms - always supposing it can be conclusively proved - a symbol of his plans to destroy Israel. Listening to the US State Department spokesman, you might think that the administration really has accepted the insane Sharon thesis that Mr Arafat is a part of "world terror". In fact, given the supine and cowardly American reporting of the Middle East conflict, you might wonder why the Pentagon wishes to create its absurd "Office of Strategic Influence (OSI)" to peddle truth and lies to the press. US journalists are so gutless - so quick to adopt the government line - that it is surely unnecessary to plunder the $10bn supplement to the Pentagon budget to sell this kind of trash.

"Aes Sedai are far more crafty than the government."

Now THERE'S an obscure reference... :)

2002-02-21 08:11:48 AM
Get a grip.

Of course they will be lie, that is their job. Propaganda and disinformation are the keys to winning without shooting. Too damned many people whine and moan like babies when we kill the other side, but then make a stink if we want to tell the other side lies to ruin their confidence and thereby avoid the need to bomb them.

The statements about not passing lies to the american public are substantially true. They simply won't tell you anything, because there _is_ no information security in the US. Anything that is said in public is available as soon as it's said.

A propaganda/disinformation campaign is only effective until the other side knows the truth.

Grow up. You can't have it both ways. The US can either bomb the piss out of anyone who looks cross-eyed at any of our interests or try to scare them into being civil. Take your pick. Just quit whining.

2002-02-21 09:12:33 AM
That's true.

But ya gotta admit, the flying pigs 'r funny.

2002-02-21 10:40:14 AM
In a Yahoo article I read, they said they would spread misinformation, just not to Americans. However, by spreading misinformation anywhere in the globe, they're lying to Americans...information is no longer contained or filtered by national borders. These stupid old Cold-War era men know not what they're doing...

2002-02-21 10:43:32 AM
Also, what's with this on their sidebar?
[image from newsmax.com too old to be available]

Yikes...remind me never to invest in gold...

It all just depends upon what your definition of "is" is.

2002-02-21 10:57:24 AM
Disinformation is an integral part of warfare. And face it, kiddies, that's what's at the heart of this article. Of course, there are some here who think they have the *right and privilege* to know everything that goes on concerning the U.S.'s tactics and strategy.

BTW, facts does NOT equal truth.

As far as 02-21-02 01:54:18 AM Vexhex is concerned:
Buh-bye!

2002-02-21 11:10:14 AM
Warren, there is security and disinformation two different things.

As for these lies just being for foreigners like me, do you think we are too stupid to check out US web sites. Therefore there is a govt agency announcing that it is planning to lie to you, yet you are quite happy with that?

2002-02-21 11:10:17 AM
We won't lie...we will plead the Fifth Amendment.

"As for these lies just being for foreigners like me, do you think we are too stupid to check out US web sites."

No I don't. But then again, just about everything can be "proven" to be a lie (or at least a half-truth) depending upon the web sites you look into.

"Therefore there is a govt agency announcing that it is planning to lie to you, yet you are quite happy with that?"

I'm not ecstatic about the idea, but I tell you what, I'm not going to lose any sleep over the whole deal.

Something further though: I don't think we're going to win this war on terrorism. Why? Because this present generation of Merkins and Brits don't have the necessary fortitude, patience and *GUTS* that the generation of Brits and Merkins had during WWII. If this present generation were somehow living in those times, I believe Hitler could have ferried over to the British Isles and taken it with his bare hands.

What drugs are you on? Weed is the reason why so many young people have problems keeping on topic but whatever your useing seems to be a little bit stronger then that.

Sounds more like all those hyper-active american kids whose mothers get Ritalin perscriptions for.

And as for Good ol' Warren, I don't lose sleep over the US government's lying agency saying it won't lie..I just laugh.

Why would people believe that goverments for the past centuries haven't lied?

2002-02-21 12:57:23 PM
Reminds me of:

Jame T. Kirk "Norman, everything Harry Mudd Says is a lie."

Harry Mudd "Norman, I'm lying."

Norman "If everything Harry Mudd says is a lie then when he says he's lying he must be telling the truth but Harry Mudd can't tell the truth because everything he says is a lie... Illogical, illogical, illogical........"

Newsmax and Yellowtimes should auto-post with a flamebait tag. They are both pointless as sources.
