He wasn't really much help to the Palestinians. He put the issue of Palestinian self-determination on the political map, but as time's gone on, it's become clear that his political identity and purpose, and reason for fame, is dependent on the Palestinians existing as an oppressed stateless minority. If the Palestinians had been given their own state for Christmas (or whenever Muslims give gifts), Arafat would have become an instant dinosaur.

So for years he has been a hindrance to the Palestian cause. Every time peace talks come up, he lets them go on and on and then at the last minute digs in his heels about something and torpedoes the deal.

The Palestinians will be much better off with a new generation of leadership. (I hope the Israelis are too -- IOW the new leaders get a frickin' clue and quit bombing cafes.)

Has anyone mentioned the simple fact that the Palestinians under the leadership of Arafat use suicide bombers. These bombers go to public places and find innocent people from 8 mo. to 80 yrs old to sneak up on and massacre. The Israelis in turn use armed forces in the open to go up against protesters in the street who support these terrorist.

Are people so blind that they cannot see which of these is evil in every sense of the word.

The Iraelis have killed over 10 times as many unarmed, neutral civilians as the Palestinians have. 10 times. They bulldoze entire city blocks at a time. They fire randomly into crowds of peaceful protestors. They shoot to kill.

My original statement was directed at the morons previously who were whining about the fact the Arafat was dying and that people were happy about it. They were in some farked up way trying to state that he was some person that we should admire....

That is at the heart of were the statement I posted was coming from. Arafat is in no way anyone to be admired. Anyone that thinks so deserves to have there head handed to them.

Uh, bullshiat. The overall ratio death ratio is about 3:1, if you break it down to actual civilians (by removing the suicide bombers themselves, other terrorists killed while committing acts of violence, Palestinians killed by other Palestinians in factional violence, "work accidents" etc.) the ratio becomes less, not more.

Neither side is exactly lily white in this, but let's stick to reality here.

How many 16 year old israelis strap bombs to their bodies and blow themselves up in civillian areas? The only purpose being to kill inocent civillians?

Arafat and the PLO in the 70's and 80's were the same as Osama bin Laden's Al'Quada is now.

Arafat had his chance for a peaceful solution to the middle east problem but chose Intifada instead of peace. If Arafat had chosen peace I think that Sharon may not be in power in Israel today.
