It's a nice idea. I think everyone who voted for Bush should be required to donate to this cause.

2004-11-06 12:58:10 PM
i send a box of books a week, along with lip balm.

but didn't vote for bush.

Adoptasniper.com these guys do a good job with the right tools.

2004-11-06 01:19:05 PM
...who don't get anything from home...

that made me sad

2004-11-06 01:21:08 PM
I just adopted me a sniper! I hope he's cute & cuddly.

"It's a nice idea. I think everyone who voted for Bush should be required to donate to this cause."

A huge number of us already do and half for the last 18 months. What have YOU done for them this week?

2004-11-06 02:17:12 PM
Where was this when I was over there? Sheesh.

i realize the site has its own 'testimonials', but i figure an outside endorsement can't hurt. i've made use of them for around a year now.

digital toys go over well. if you've got a pda, mp3 player, digital camera or even just a stack of batteries you aren't using...this is a hell of a lot better use for it than collecting dust or throwing it on ebay.

small toys that will fit in their pack are also very apreciated. that pile of (small) stuffed animals, gi joes, box of legos...whatever...that your kid doesn't play with anymore.. it'll make some kid on the other side of the world happy to get it, and some soldier happy to give it.

the 'personal hygiene' kits aren't that hard to assemble yourself if you don't want to get one of the pre-made kind....just keep it small. they have to be able to carry this shiat.

above all else, throw some correspondence in there. a letter from your kid, a note saying thank you...or hell, even a stack of magazines....stuff to read and kill time is apparently very well recieved. throw your email address in there somewhere, too. might end up making a few friends. i have, at least.

Another thing they ask for all the time are DVDs. Lost of DVDs. And portable DVD players as well.

I have also heard they have a lot of game consoles but no games to go with them.

2004-11-06 02:58:47 PM
lost = lots.

2004-11-06 03:31:44 PM
I do my part. My neighbor is in the local Marine Corps league. They take up colletions and donations regularly and ship them overseas, and I give him stuff whenever I can. That said, I think it would be nicer if they weren't over there in the first place.

2004-11-06 04:12:55 PM
Greenlit!

GO FARK GO!

Glad to hear it. Not sure why you felt the need to try and attack Bush voters who have regularly led the efforts at sites like AnySoldier, Operation Gratitude, Keystone and others. But whatever. The soldiers *are* over there, and we need to support them while they are.

Everyone do a little something. Even if it's just tipping the site owner to keep things going. These troops are going to need morale boosting after Fallujah. This is not the place for partisan biatching...just help.

2004-11-06 04:46:03 PM
Awesome site! Brings it home and realize what they're experiencing. I'm going to send a package.

2004-11-06 05:27:36 PM
This complimentary site, run by the same people has ready made care packages for those who don't want to spend an entire afternoon gathering items and shipping them

2004-11-06 06:18:50 PM
Awesome. I'm sending neoprene ski masks, cds and skoal baby to some jarheads near Ramadi!

2004-11-06 06:30:09 PM
Cool...

I just sent some goodies to Baghdad using their related site TreatAnySoldier.com. It was quick and easy.

Sadly sending Michael Moore over was not an option. (Okay, that wasn't necessary.... I take it back.)

2004-11-06 06:36:33 PM
By the way, if you're sending something on your own you should find out if there are any restrictions. Something like Playboy, for example, is apparently not permitted. Also no pork products. This seems pretty typical for Iraq.

Wow, I figured it would take at least 5-10 posts before partisan bickering occured, but no. Boobies. Congratulations, you're all asshats!

What about the best gift for our troops in Southwest Asia?

Bring them home.

2004-11-06 08:33:14 PM
haha i love that filter

2004-11-06 08:34:25 PM
What about reality?

Send them care packages.

2004-11-06 08:35:08 PM
I mailed porno to my friend who was on one of the ships out in the Gulf during Afghanistan. Supposedly it's against the rules--but hey when you're trapped on a boat with nothing but guys for months on end, you gotta do something.

I've been looking for something like this since nobody I know in the military is on active duty. So is this site totally legit? I'm always suspect of these charity websites.

2004-11-06 08:36:31 PM
So this is legit? Roll call farklite - its legit?

2004-11-06 08:37:00 PM
Maybe Fark should donate for all the server bandwidth they're using up... :)

2004-11-06 08:37:16 PM
Because if it is my do I have a stack of sci fi and fantasy books to send the farkers over there. Nice ones too. I am the hell out of room!

Tried to pick the leader that'd get them home faster.

Misogynecologist... yes, it's legit as are the others listed.

2004-11-06 08:38:29 PM
It took one post for someone to attempt to start a flame war. Very classless of you.

I can't get on the website right now, but I will make a donation as soon as I can.

2004-11-06 08:39:19 PM
Another good site:

2004-11-06 08:39:30 PM
Serious question...do you think they'd be bothered if I (a Canadian) and my wife (an American) sent them a care package from Canada?

We don't support the war in any way, but we do support the troops and would like to help out.

2004-11-06 08:40:43 PM
Cableguy - Re pork products.. I work for a radio station that's had local Marines live from Iraq on our show, and they said that pork products are OK for care packages. (We'd also assumed that pork was a no no.)

2004-11-06 08:40:57 PM
UNC_Samurai How about snipeapalestiniankid.org?

2004-11-06 08:40:58 PM
Hear, hear.

I'm sending those poor depraved GI's some pr0n.

/voted for Kerry

2004-11-06 08:41:05 PM
Man I am leery of stuff like this - but if its for real - Jesus this the opportunity I have been waiting for to clean house. Seriously. I have tons of shiat and fark garage sales, ebay and all the other hassles. I have seven goddamn book cases and more stacks on the ground of books and even more coming in the mail and the damn library stuff too.

I am a compulsive reader, and all the used book stores in town are gone :(

2004-11-06 08:42:45 PM
Kickstart... I'm sure they wouldn't mind in the least

My personal opnion? They would like your shiat better than our shiat because you guys are first, different, and second, theres been a lotta bad PR in the press about your feelings towards them. So yeah for sure....

You people turned on my sister in laws lights in Port St. Lucie Florida and the whole town got you drunk and laid for the same reasons listed above. I sincerely think they would appreciate it along those lines.

2004-11-06 08:43:57 PM
Ok guys lay off the site---your farking it for the rest of us.

2004-11-06 08:45:22 PM
If Stanley Kubrick were to send a care package:

Survival kit contents check. In them you'll find: one forty-five caliber automatic; two boxes of ammunition; four days' concentrated emergency rations; one drug issue containing antibiotics, morphine, vitamin pills, pep pills, sleeping pills, tranquilizer pills; one miniature combination Russian phrase book and Bible; one hundred dollars in rubles; one hundred dollars in gold; nine packs of chewing gum; one issue of prophylactics; three lipsticks; three pair of nylon stockings.

Shoot, a fella' could have a pretty good weekend in Vegas with all that stuff

2004-11-06 08:45:44 PM
I was in the Middle East in 2003 and I can attest to the fact that anything these guys get is very appreciated. One of the things I got while I there was from a kid in middle school thanking me for what I was doing and that made my week. Thanks to all of you who are sending stuff.

2004-11-06 08:46:18 PM
Ok, good enough for me, we'll start putting together something right away.

2004-11-06 08:46:30 PM
And superpeanut wins the asshat of the night award, congrats.

2004-11-06 08:49:13 PM
isn't the tough work of putting a sticker on your car PROCLAIMING your support for the troops enough??

/apparently it is...

2004-11-06 08:49:23 PM
Sorry, damitjim, I forgot that discussing the John Wayne Gacy-like tendencies of America's Reliable Ally in the Middle East was verboten.

2004-11-06 08:49:33 PM
I have a few copies of Popular Mechanics, and Popular Science from 1937-1945 that I have from my Grandfather who died on the USS Indianapolis when it was torpedoed. They have some cool articles about the war effort and technologies in WW2 I was thinking of sending them over. Do you think they would be well received and enjoyed by the guys/ girls in Iraq?

2004-11-06 08:51:28 PM
Superpeanut, I'm referring to your "snipeapalestiniankid.org" comment... it was uncalled for in this thread.

2004-11-06 08:51:42 PM
My sister has a friend who's in Iraq right now, and he says the thing he needs most is batteries. There's never enough, they run out like crazy, and they need them for the scope on their rifles.

So SEND BATTERIES fer chrissake.

We've been sending him care packages but I think I'll make one for this site.
