Ok, this pic is a fake, right? Look at the neck and wrists. It looks like he's wearing some kind of fat suit.

How about these analogies:
A computer commercial with a fat person.
A vacuum commercial with a fat person.
A drug commercial with a fat person.
A jeans commercial with a fat person.

I never see these.

Fat people use all the products non-fat people use. Why pick on McDonalds?

2004-11-05 12:37:50 PM
OK, so McDonalds doesn't want to hire plus-sized models, 'cause it'll show their product in a bad light. Good, I agree. 'Cause if the issue is forced, we'll be seeing Victoria Secret and Hanes Her Way commercials with 250+ lb. models.

/let's leave things they way they farking are...

So I guess you've never heard of undereating and gaining weight because your body thinks you're "starving" yourself.

Way too simplistic to think it's all about stuffing your face with food.

2004-11-05 12:39:19 PM
I'm not concerned. If civilization ever goes balls up, fat people will have the most food squirreled away and are easily outran.

2004-11-05 12:39:35 PM
"NOTHING causes obesity except food. Nothing. I don't care if you've got the worst genes on the planet, if you don't eat enough you will not gain weight."

Water can be retained by medication, allergies, and disease.
Look into it.

It's ironic because the company being blamed for the obesity problem doesn't want to hire the people effected by their product in that way.

Um, yeah, cause all fat people got fat by eating too much McDonalds...

I hate those robots that drag me into McDonalds and make me eat three cheeseburgers and a large fry a couple times a week. Bastards.

I was just waiting for someone to try to be clever and think that in order to "defend" fat people, I had to be fat too.

Well, sorry, but no. I'm not considered fat or overweight. At all.

But thanks for playing.

McDonalds and everyone else should be allowed to hire whoever they want for their adverts. If it's okay to only allow women to apply for acting parts where the character is supposed to be female, it should be okay to only allow thin people to apply for acting parts where the character is supposed to be thin.

Why do people eat at mcdonalds anyway? If they think it tastes good, I do a /boggle and start laughing. Maybe my tastebuds are underdeveloped, I dunno.. but any mcd burger tastes slightly of plastic and mostly of shiat.

I dont care about if its healthy, I just care if the food farking sucks.. which McD's certainly does.

Not once did you mention metabolism. Rate of caloric burn. Metabolism is something you're born with, and it can't be changed. Well, maybe something medically can be done.

Yes, you certainly can change metabolism. Muscle tissue requires calories to maintain, even when at rest; while fat tissue requires little to none.

If you want to be in commercials or any kind of advertising then don't get fat! There are fat models...advertising plus-size clothing.

My dad is always complaining about the way men are portrayed in commercials. I agree with him. Men aren't nearly that stupid.

Hey Arnold, ever think that McDonald's actually might CAUSE people to be fat? I've never heard of someone using a freaking Oreck and packing on 20 pounds.

2004-11-05 12:47:31 PM
Yeah, McDonalds can hire whoever they want for their commercials. I think the real point is that their advertising is misleading, because we all know that their food isn't healthy for you and if you eat there a lot you'll look more like the michelin boy than the people in the ads. But all advertising is misleading because the purpose of advertising is to get you to buy their crappy product instead of their competitor's crappy product by misleading the consumer.

2004-11-05 12:47:48 PM
I'm so fat that when I get on a scale it doesn't say anything because it's not a fancy scale but the dial thing reads 275.

2004-11-05 12:47:55 PM
The real shocker in "Supersize Me" was NOT weight gain. It was the overall effect on his liver and other body functions. The weight gain was significant, but his blood chemistry became alarming and he was flirting with liver failure. That is damn scary. That and the extra segment showing the McFries that never go bad. What the hell is in those things.

Here's the thing about the movie that bugged me. I think that was a pretty gross exaggeration, because is it just me or did he go from a healthy vegan diet to ten friggin' thousand calories of nothing but McDonalds for a month? Anybody's body would go into panic mode, and that doesn't have much to do with McDonalds. And he seemed to be suggesting that the way he ate for that month represented how a lot of Americans eat on a regular basis. I'm sure some do, but not a majority.

Um.. right?

I call shenanigans; there is no way that is your photo! That person is too hot to be as smart as you seem. Just sayin...

Anyway, I come from a "Fat" family, and until recently I was over weight. But I dont think its in the Genes, it is learned behavior.

Its not really even a question of eating too much. In my opinion people really need more exercise.

jimmyego

I have seen that photo so many times and never knew the story behind it. I just assumed he was a home grown fat boy! Thanks for the 411!

Gosh, so the incidence of genes for obesity, sexual abuse, rape, and Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome must have exploded since the 1970s.

American's rate of obesity has increased sharply since 1970 and can be correlated with the massive increase in availability fast foods and snack foods, not to mention the advent of television watching as a life-dominating past-time. Currently, 31% of the U.S. population is obese and 64% is overweight, compared to 15% and 47% respectively in the late 70s. Our average daily food intake increased from about 1,800 calories in 1989-91 to 2,000 in 1994-96. Per capita soft drink consumption has doubled since 1970. The percentage of food kids get from eating out has increased 300% since 1977. Obesity is lowest among kids who watch less than an hour of TV daily and highest among those who watch four hours or more.

(All stats taken from The Straight Dope column on high-fructose corn syrup which I happened to have just read this morning. I trust Cecil Adams to be pretty good about his sources).

Not to mention the recent studies from the Department of Duh that show that people who live in neighborhoods where they have to drive everywhere are fatter.

So in truth, I'm afraid it is mostly eating too much and a lack of exercise that makes people fat.

2004-11-05 12:49:23 PM
That's child abuse! Mickey D's cheeseburgers didn't make that kid fat, a lack of parenting skills made that kid fat. The government and McDonald's cannot raise your kids for you! Get a brain, morans!

That doesn't explain the fact that two men of the same age and same level of activity can eat the same thing and only one will become overweight and the other will never gain a single pound in a decade.

I know a guy who all of his life has been able to eat complete crap, including a 2 pound box of chocolate in one sitting and he weighs 140 pounds and always has. He doesn't exercise or workout; he reads books and watches TV. For him it has nothing to do with muscle mass or fat content.

THAT'S what I'm talking about when I say metabolism that you're born with.

Grimace gets laid off.

2004-11-05 12:50:18 PM
There's a basic reason for men being portrayed as stupid in ads. Women doe 85% of the purchasing in a household, and degrading men in ads makes women feel empowered. Sad but true.

Of course, beer ad bimbos make men feel empowered. Advertising works because it appeals to base instincts. Just like politics.

Oh, and just to reiterate...KarmicHoax is incredibly hot.

But one actor said: It smacks of hypocrisy by a firm whose products have been proven to make people overweight.

It isn't the food that's making you fat, you whining lardass, it's the fact that you keep stuffing it down your piehole.

Skinny people can still be fat. And of course it has nothing to do with muscle mass, he probably doesn't have much.

dont blame Mcdonald's marketing staff for our views on society. screw the whiny biatches, get an acting job somewhere else

McDonald's does not make people fat, stuffing your face with food 24/7 makes you fat.

i feel bad for mcdonalds, because, wow, it is a tough choice...
