Researchers found it out? That's obvious. Time flows in one direction because you would need to give research dollars BACK to your funding sources if it flowed the other way.

2004-11-04 09:08:45 AM
It's all downhill.

2004-11-04 09:31:15 AM
Silly scientists. They are missing what's really going on...

The answer is 42

I didn't even know the Unabomber was into Time Theory.

No matter what is discovered, half the country or more will still believe a big omnipotent being threw some rocks around and created heaven and earth, threw some dirt aroung and created man, and performed some surgery and created woman.

and all of them vote for their own kind for powerful positions in government, then they set about attempting to bring about the armagedon end times, because god of course is acting through them and their policies of course represent the will of the lord their god.

Because that's the way the clockmakers made it.

Scientists closing in on discovering why time flows in only one direction.

Because the other way would be counter-clockwise, Poindexter.

Sometimes science resembles religion so much it's scary.

2004-11-04 01:27:44 PM
It's because this is the free trial version of time. Going backwards is a feature available in the full version of time, only $29.95.

2004-11-04 01:28:24 PM
I wonder what John Titor has to say about this scientific discovery.

2004-11-04 01:28:45 PM
"Alone of all the creatures in the world, trolls believe that all living things go through time backwards. If the past is visible and the future is hidden, they say, then it means you must be facing the wrong way.Everything alive is going through life back to front.

And this is a very interesting idea, considering it was invented by a race who spend most of their time hitting one another on the head with rocks."

Next up: scientists examine the mystery of "alphabetical order."

Is it because of that song?

2004-11-04 01:29:17 PM
Because if time went the other way we'd view that as forward and the current way as backwards.

2004-11-04 01:30:21 PM

Let me help you understand the flow of time by showing you this chart ...

2004-11-04 01:30:25 PM
So what they are saying is that time keeps on tickin', tickin'. tickin', into the future and in only that direction?

Wow..... That is without a doubt the ugliest site I have ever seen.

I also wonder what kinds of drugs that man stopped taking.

I've always maintained that all events and actions happen simultaneously, and that we are only intelligent enough to understand that mass event as a one-way sequence of events along an imaginary 'timeline' that does not exist in reality.

When I told my high school physics teacher this in class, he put me in an advanced class the next day....

2004-11-04 01:33:56 PM
You poor bastards. Once you try the Linux open-source version of time, you'll never go back.

2004-11-04 01:34:17 PM
Time flows in only one direction because you humans are too stupid to see the truth.

2004-11-04 01:34:22 PM
Ow, my head.

2004-11-04 01:35:15 PM
You seemed to have left of part of your post, joeflood.

Noteably, the part where you tell us what the truth is.

2004-11-04 01:36:29 PM

As the old saying goes.....

Time flies like knives, fruit flies like bananas.

2004-11-04 01:37:06 PM
Time seems to flow repetedly back, and to the left...
back, and to the left...
back, and to the left...
back, and to the left...
back, and to the left...
back, and to the left...
back, and to the left...
back, and to the left...
back, and to the left...

Just reading the headline makes my brain feel funny. I am glad there are scientists who study these things, and am amazed someone can actually lay claim to being "close" to such a discovery.

Guess my trip to the 'Restaurant At the End of the Universe' will now be one-way.

2004-11-04 01:39:02 PM
To begin inflation, the universe would have encompassed a microscopically tiny patch in an extremely unlikely configuration, not what scientists would expect from a randomly chosen initial condition.

say what? i think this is like one of those reese's peanut butter cups moments -- but instead of getting your chocolate in my peanut butter, alan greenspan dropped his notes in stephen hawkings lecture material...

Has anyone ever read that whole Timecube thing? WTF is up with that guy?

2004-11-04 01:39:56 PM
If time flowed backwards, we probably wouldn't notice.

2004-11-04 01:39:58 PM
mmm. obvious.

Art Bell surrendered a long time ago.

Too bad, that bastard was entertaining.

Now the show completely sucks. Does anyone still listen to it?

If multiples of the speed of light is someday obtainable... and I travel out in space at the 10 times the speed of light for 1 year... and I come back twice that speed...

Do I get back in half a year, or before I left considering I was going fater than light which we base time on..for 1 year.

2004-11-04 01:42:58 PM
I can imagine this scenario:

Being1: Darn, they are about to figure out how to reverse time.
Being2: What is wrong with that?
Being1: This isn't the first time they figured it out.

You mean you wish you "were" smar... oh wait, nevermind.

2004-11-04 01:43:11 PM
time flows in 1 direction because that's all we are able to perceive. it could be flopping back and forth all the time, but you'd have to be an external observer to notice.

I've thought pretty much the same thing, except along with all actual events, add in all possible events and their outcomes.

No matter what is discovered, half the country or more will still believe a big omnipotent being threw some rocks around and created heaven and earth, threw some dirt aroung and created man, and performed some surgery and created woman.

And the other half will go on beliving everything just appeared out of nowhere without explaination, and the big bags of chemical reactions we call ourselves are just the products of an amazing series of serendipitous coincidences and random chance.
