Prediction: Bush wins, but just barely... and we won't know tonight. Florida will be super close, but the absentee ballots will throw it over the top. Foxnews is reporting there are 140,000 republican absentee ballots that will not get counted tonight.
In a surpise to absolutely everyone, including himself, Nadar wins the 2004 presidential race. Quoted as saying "Well shiat, I was only in it because George paid me anyways, what do I do now?"
The longer Virginia takes to be called, the worse it'll be for Bush. He should be able to take that state easily, but if it ends up being a relatively tight race then it could point to signs that he'll have trouble later in the night.
Whoever wins, the world isn't ending. Both men represent institutional and political traditions dating back generations. Congress and the current will of the people also have an enormous role to play for setting the course for our nation. Neither man is out to destroy your way of life, both want to lead and use force they way they see fit.
The biggest problems with our culture are not political, they are personal. The character of the American people matters far more than who's in charge. Politicians merely reflect a culture and way of thinking.
Too early yet to tell who's going to win. Lookin' promising right now tho.
Didn't realize you were a Kerry supporter, weaver! Good to hear! And I agree, his leads in Florida, Ohio and Wisconsin and Bush's inability to slam dunk Virginia do look mighty promising!
Nice to know Im not the only one voting for Badnarik. Prediction: Bush wins big. Not a landslide, but a large margin. The 33 recorded "vote for Kerry" calls I got in the last 2 days suggests desparation.
It looks bad for Bush. It would seem that the Americans DID distinguish Iraq from the war on terror. Fitting that. Now watch Bush win the popular vote and not get elected.
My neo-con coworker just tried to start one of his famous ranting ultra conservative political converstations with me. I finally found a way do deal with him. "I'm not talking about this with you." Apparently this is the only way to shut him up.
The world may not be ending but will it EVER be farked up - just think about the fact that Bush doesn't have to play nice anymore cuz he wont be up for re-election again!
It'll be kinda cool every time you type in a web address knowing that you only have to add another 'W' to remember how long, in years, George is going to serve.
Am I the only one who thinks that the electoral college should be abolished & the presidential race should be based solely on the popular vote? That's the way to get more voters & to get people who actually care. Right now the election comes down to 2 or 3 states. That ain't right! Why should the candidate that fewer people vote for win?
I keep hearing the news stations act like calling it, but then saying "that's not a call, sorry!!" It's almost like the stations are scared to call it at all.
For what it's worth, Bush has a big lead early in the parts of Florida that are closed and have been counted: Early Florida returns
While I wouldn't assume that Bush is going to win Florida, the fact that his lead is bigger than the lead of Martinez in the Senate race is interesting...
As much as I am a Kerry supporter, I could care less what the rest of the world thinks about the election, I hope that doesn't influence anybody's decision.
For those of you who keep screaming, "BUSH IS WINNING, 39-3!!":
According to CNN, unlike a football game, this is not a "sports" type score. These projected 39 votes were all expected to be in favor of Bush, so, at this moment, the numbers don't mean much. No surprises, no prizes won yet.
Dilbert: "How did you get Ben Franklin's body?" Garbage man: "You'd be surprised what people throw out."
Garbage man: "Keep your shirt on." Dilbert: "I had no intention of taking it off." Garbage man: "You make it hard for people to help you."
Dilbert: "I have an ethical question about our democratic system." Ben Franklin: "Ah, yes, by now I suppose you've figured out it was all a big joke." Dilbert: "What?" Garbage man: "He doesn't know." Ben Franklin: "Nevermind."
Ben Franklin: "The average voter can't find his bunghole with two hands. You don't want to leave it up to them, do you?"
Loud Howard: "Thanks to your internet voting network, no one will ever have to vote thirsty again."
Asok: "Hey! Look at me! I'm voting and I'm not even a citizen."
Gay Marriage amendment passed in Ohio - projected.
The harshest amendment in the country....
Harsher than the other 46 states that don't recognize same-sex relationships?
(MA has "marriage", VT "civil unions", CA "domestic partnerships" effective next year, if I recall correctly, and the others are all basically the same)
So, I went to vote today, and I WAS ON A LIST THAT INSISTED I SHOW PROOF ID????? THERE WERE ONLY 3 NAMES ON THE LIST, AND THEY DIDN'T NO WHY I HAD TO, IT JUST WAS????????
ANY IDEAS OUT THERE?
/I totally had I.D., and had laminated my voter card
I actually voted for a few republicans in the local elections. They actually look like they make better sheriffs, what with their handlebar mustaches and all, and the county commisioner seat had a b-b-q last weekend that was excellent. Moist and delicious. I have therefore based my vote on either mustaches or moisty deliciousness.
If Bush wins... 1. I will cry all night 2. I will have nightmares 3. I will cry tomorrow when I wake-up and realize Bush has won 4. I will lose hope on the intelligence of the american people 5. I'll scream full of anger I'll just get depress for weeks to come to hear all the same lies from the Bush administration and his rich buddies.I don't understand how people can't have common sense to see how much he's lying to the american people and they don't see behind his mask. I guys like him in my classes in high school-- They cheat in test, copy homework from the smart-not-popular kids and are seen as the all american boys. Just sad.
Climberdusk I've just about had it with all of your needling comments about my people, okay? Suffice it to say, you don't understand them. So stop. Seriously.
Alexandra, one of many obviously. Gay couples are doomed here.
I believe this to be sad. When two people care for each other enough, they should have the option to share insurance, make decisions for their loved ones, and share finances.
This wasn't just about whether a man could marry a man and call it marriage. This denies same sex unions - period.
The record turnouts are awesome. I'm very proud of my fellow Americans for that, whether or not my horse wins. There's polling stations here in the valley with 4 hour wait-times and people are happy to wait.
::Harsher than the other 46 states that don't recognize same-sex relationships?
There's a difference between simply not recognizing that type of union, and amending a state constitution. We have the same sort of amendment on the ballot here in KY, and they are careful to point out that if the amendment is not passed, current treatment of non-traditional unions won't change. The onyl thing at stake is whether that attitude will be enshrined as a fundamental part of state law.
I just came back from voting in my village south of Buffalo, N.Y. Amazing turnout. Out of 620 eligible voters at that polling station, over 400 had voted when I left. And there were 2 hours left then. The election workers were thrilled. Said they had never seen anything like it.
Peroutka is against the federal gay marriage amendment because the state does not define "marriage", God does. What I voted for was at the *state* level, though. I read the wording carefully. You have to make sure someone can't twist it around--that was the issue with the *federal* amendment.
I'm a Canadian, and I'm completely baffled by the "survival of the fittest" Republican thinking... "I'm voting for Bush because he won't tax ME" etc, etc, etc...
Yet the same person turns around and whines whenever they think America is getting shafted in trade deals (see softwood lumber war, fishing, etc). Sorry bub, you wanted a survival of the fittest attitude, then that's what you're getting... !
Got that from your second to last post or whatever, I posted mine before I refreshed and saw you are from Morgantown and live in Buchannon. Just begs the question: Morgantown, or University High? Or neither?
/Clay Battellian, red headed step child of the Mon county public school system.
What I voted for was at the *state* level, though.
Oh, I know. I didn't think that it would be that different, though. I'll admit that I haven't read the proposed amendment since I don't live in OH anymore.
I have a bet going with my dual citizens (US and EU) Sister and Brother-In-Law - Kerry wins, we buy them round trip tickets to Ireland, Bush wins, we buy them one way tickets.
I just wish the media would not call any states until all the polls are closed. It's not even 5 on the west coast and they're already calling states in the east.
Election results page with just a map that updates for those who don't want to deal with the image overload of all those news sites. Just the map. Which updates. Fun.
And how on earth could anybody vote for a farking Hitler like that CP whackjob?
If you ask me, Bush is more like Hitler.
Peroutka would keep government at its Constitutionally-defined limits, and he'd ditch the Patriot Act, which btw would make the USA into a police state.
/or maybe not, lets wait for the recount first... and the second recount... and the third recount... and the lawyers from both sides making statements that their side won... Election results from Diebold systems saying that Gus VanSmelt from Red Bank, N.J. won the popular vote... Gore conceding the election to Mr. VanSmelt... Reports coming in that Mr. VanSmelt isn't even a candidate... Gore sulks, realizes he isn't a candidate either and hides back in his Lockbox... Bush makes statements saying that Kerry supporters rigged the election in Ohio... Kerry makes statements saying Bush supporters rigged the election in Florida... Nader supporters confused on how they won Wake Island... Americans minds in shambles and screaming for relief... No results conclusive... See you again in three weeks to see the results of the Supreme Court Vote...

VERY sad considering the same lies are used in my former country by a "democratic" dictator on the other side of the political scale. Oh! the rhetoric... I should be a rhetorician and sell my self to the highest bidding administration.
The same logic (if you can call it that) prevails at the state level too. Lots of politicians around here made a big deal about signing "No-Tax" pledges, promising not to increase or institute new taxes (sound familiar?). Yet at the same time, our schools are gasping for money, and our teachers and other state employees got the shaft with their health insurance. Where do they think the money for those things COMES from?
Did you all hear about Florida? They won't be able to count 60,000 absentee ballots until Thursday. Grab a shovel. We're going to the border and we're gonna dig a trench, and kick them towards Cuba.
2004-11-02 07:52:40 PM Weaver95 [TotalFark] Agreed. Most encouraging indeed.
I volunteered at my local polling station, when i got there at 5:30, there were already about 50 people there. mostly blue & white collars. By 9 we had a 2 hour wait. Local businesses were bringing sandwiches, drinks, etc for free to voters waiting. Wish we could get this much good will every election.
/Still no projections from the leathermidgetputer3000....

Most everyone at my local polling place had voted by lunch time. Over 400 people had been thru the place by then. I don't think I've EVER seen that high a turn out.
Some mortgage company called me to try and sell me a mortgage on my house... I said, "Are you kidding me?! It's election night! Who in their right mind would be thinking, 'hey! I could use a new mortgage right now!'?"
He then asked if I got the chance to vote today to which I said, "Yeah man... I sure did... Have a good night."
Telemarketers are busy tonight... haha how stupid.
This is a reworking of something I wrote the other day.
These wheels of Democracy Turn slowly yet inexorably Now Election Day has come With our votes cast our choosing's done No matter what the ends result's Think first this 'fore you send insults: We've more in common with each other Than we've not, we band of brothers This ship of state's crewed by we humans We the People: We Pluribus Unum
laworderstuff I cant find any comments by Climberdusk please tell me what he said as a moderator deleted it and it must be the coolest thing said on this thread. But since what I'm saying is not relevant it will be trashed. Farewell.
Defending Bush for going to war in Iraq is no different than defending Hitler for genocide on the Jews.
I find that rather funny, since the entire U.S. Middle East involvement is based on defending the Jews from people that wish to finish the job. Israel was established by the U.N. after WWII.
I'd like to raise my glass to every American that voted, no matter who for. The record turnout is awesome, and I hope that we can all be friends once this thing is over. Unlikely, but I can always hope.
So here's my olive branch: I voted for Kerry. But if Bush is elected, he will be my President. I will take the Kerry sticker off my car, and I will not utter snarky little "don't blame ME, I voted for Kerry" quips at Bush's slightest misstep over the next four years. I can't promise I'll agree with him or his supporters, but I won't be an ass when I disagree.
This is funny. I'm watching the local coverage, and while one of the on the site reporters is talking about the (republican) camp, an old guy walks by in the background with beer.
I wish we could get "real" numbers. So far, all we're getting are projections and expected votes. That doesn't mean shiat so far. I want to know where the swing states stand, dammit.
None of this matters, really - this was all completely expected. The supression of absentee ballots in Philly could be really bad for Kerry - this is all icing till Pennsylvania and Florida (and to a lesser extent, New Hampshire) get hot.
Actually, the GOP was hoping they could take NJ. It's not a surprise to them that Kerry prevailed, but I'm sure it's more of a disappointment than in other years.
Kerry took the northeast, which isn't surprising. If he hadn't it would have been something to comment about. I want to see how he does in Pa and in the South.
electoral-vote.com had New Jersey pegged as "exactly tied", so if you're using their totals as a base, that's 15 BonusVotes(tm) for Kerry, which would make it 277-261. But Florida's looking troublesome for Kerry, and a Bush win there would make it 250-288 for Bush.
Philadelphia District Attorney Lynne M. Abraham today refuted reports that 2,000 votes had been "planted" on voting machines at several polling places.
Cathie Abookire, spokeswoman for Abraham, said poll workers misinterpreted numbers they found on voting machines before the polls opened. Abookire said the city's new electronic voting machines have two windows that display voting numbers - one that shows the total number of votes ever cast on the machine, the other that shows the number of votes cast today.
Some poll workers saw the number of prior votes from past elections on the machines and thought that meant votes had been planted.
"They misread the machines," Abookire said. "There were no planted votes."
The confusion was created by a Web site, the Drudge Report, which reported that before voting began in Philadelphia, poll watchers found nearly 2000 votes planted on machines at four polling places...
Meaning - you're absolutely right. kerry needed jersey - he loses that and it's *really* bad news. good that he won it. but the bush folks weren't expecting to win it, I don't think - more a pipe dream.
I dunno - they called MD as solid blue right quick, with no results yet. OK, so it's a pretty safe call - I'd give an awful lot to see it go a lovely shade of yellow, though.
What's interesting right now is that Kerry has the lead on EVs, but Bush has more popular votes...I think that would be a hilarious end result for this craziness.
Watching the election is so entertaining. It's like football, because you watch the game and when it's over, some people will be pissed off for a while and others will celebrate and there will be riots. But in the long run nobody's life is really going to change that much.
Sad to see the Republicans in such denial. It is all over now but the crying, folks. They'll call Ohio and Florida for Kerry within the next two hours.
Nice knowing you, Dubya! At least you left a legacy -- Americans will now always have a phrase to associate with the Bush family name. That phrase is "one term".
Wadestown actually, about 10 miles outside of Blacksville. Yes, THE Blacksville, where that guy blew up the port a potty with a cigarette (fark story a while ago). But Morgantown is my home till I can graduate.
But Florida's looking troublesome for Kerry, and a Bush win there would make it 250-288 for Bush.
Don't freak out about Floriday too much yet. I'm looking at the county map on cnn.com, and they haven't added votes from the southeast, which has a bunch of very heavily democratic areas (such as Palm Beach).
I did my part, I voted.. not much more I can do at this point. So I mean, it is kind of interesting and informative (almost fun) to be following this, but in a way I wish they would just hold off until they can call it for sure.
On the other hand, I suppose that could be weeks or months from now, but still... I mean, didn't we make this mistake last year?
Considering a little over 5 million voted in Florida in 2002, and that was a 1.1 mil increase over 1998, the 1.1 mil that was just reported in Florida could represent less than 20% of the vote at this point if Florida experienced a similar increase in voting this cycle.
Totally unrelated to anything else, my work has got a whole bunch of the camera-toting ballot drop-off site volunteers. It didn't occur to me why the hell anyone would want to take so many photos of our information desk, until it dawned on me...
I think it's a good idea, but they're taking tons of photos of just... uhh... the box. I'm in one [my desk is behind the info desk], trying to look as non-threatening as possible.
Come on, whats wromg left wing punks?.......Voice your thoughts, side with OBL, vote Kerry....Whats wrong with voting for the guy who wants to make America strong and show people that we are not afraid to vote for the guy who will stand up for America???
Let's show that we will kick ass for 4 more years and not side with OBL
/Anti-NRA /Not a redneck /Make good money, so, what do you care?? /Vet of Gulf War I
Those of you who are worried about Florida can rest a bit... the counties that have reported are seriously in the sticks. Wait for the metropolitan areas to report.
i live in broward in florida, and all the people waiting in swarms to vote today and the past week (for early voting) were hispanics and jews voting kerry.
I believe that this whole election campaign is nothing more than the culmination of a Trading Places type bet between two members of an elite fraternal organization.
NarrMaster: I had forgotten about the infamous port-a-potty incident, but now that you mention it... :) What are you majoring in? (Hope you don't mind I am off election topic)
i live in broward in florida, and all the people waiting in swarms to vote today and the past week (for early voting) were hispanics and jews voting kerry.
I would have assumed that those votes would already be included in the tallies. Anyone know?
In the spirit of the season, I recommend the Bugs Bunny classic, Rebel Rabbit. Now "banned", because Bugs sort of becomes a terrorist, but that's only part of it. It also includes Bugs cutting Florida loose. You can find it if you look on p2p. Not that anyone cares.
Arguing over power sucks, but it still beats killing each other over it. Praise the peaceful transfer of power, long live democracy, even in this less than ideal form.
they would be included in the exit polls, but the actual precints reporting don't have the major hispanic/jewish areas -- they're mostly the rural places that traditionally go republican
Also of note, while Kerry is winning the electoral vote, look at the last column....popular vote. Quite a gap for W.
Do consider that most of that is from states where one or the other was expected to win, and the battleground states are still up for grabs (except for NJ).
Meh. As far as I can tell, the purpose of the electoral college is to give the privlege of electing the president to the states involved. The popular vote is irrelevent. If more people in state X want Candidate Y to win, then state x's votes go to that candidate.
I just looked at my old state of RI. According to CNN nobody bothered with exit polls there. It will go K, W doesn't stand a chance, but it does have more Electors than several other states.
I'm glad Peter Jennings just let us all know what George Bush and his family were having for dinner tonight at the White House. Cuz I was really waiting for that info.
To those talking about the early voters in florida 'all going out and voting for kerry', those results were tabulated and reported this morning. 51% Bush.
Dont ask for a link.. it was on Drudge.. look it up.
I spilled my coke on the electronic vote booth. I voted for Kerry, it kept refreshing over and over, voting for Kerry. Last I heard, it was still running strong.
I'm in ohio, biatches!
(For the secret service, this is a joke, don't come to my house.)
cbs' map really sucks; it doesn't show who wins which state -- at first i thought it did, and it turns out to be an overlaid map -- which means kerry didn't win the tip of texas. aw.
OK, I know I'm getting ahead of myself here, but if Kerry wins, can we all agree not to argue politics AT ALL with the neocons for about 3.5 years? I mean, think about it. Kerry will be pres. Let them call him a syphillitic pomegranite if they want to. Let them start threads wherein evidence is given that he is allowing satan to write his foreign and domestic policies. Who cares? Just don't attend their threads. Don't say shiat. Then, with six months to go, rally behind a third party candidate and let's end this bipartisan crap once and for all.
Still nothing that goes against electoral-vote.com, though, except The Jersey Factor.
e-v.com called NJ to go to Kerry. I've got their "predicted final results" page up (along with the on-line OH and FL tickers and three Fark pages!)
I'm wondering where CBS is getting their OH numbers that everyone in this thread is quoting. The OH election night webpage (http://election.sos.state.oh.us/Results/RaceSummary.aspx) has Bush ahead.
You're right, Bush's tax cuts were unfair. But you're right for all the wrong reasons. Why don't you consider going back to school, maybe take an economics class or two before flapping your ignorant lips around here.
I can't wait for tonight at around midnight PT when Fox News and CNN report different presidents win the election. That will be fun to have people freak out to.
This is the longest sporting event without a halftime, a timeout, or any real umpire crew. We're going on over a year now and we're just now down to the final ticks of the fourth quarter. Will it go down to sudden death overtime?
Wait a minute....they're starting to call states with only a few percentages worth of precincts reporting? Looking at that CSPAN map, which gives the actual numbers.
The different between me, and other uneducated voters is, that I have been there and maybe I'm not a hard republican, and in fact I'm anti-religion.....but I want to see my county support the man is who is not afraid to go after countries that disagree with us. I'm not a war monger, but I believe that we need to stay our course and finish the job we started.
Yes, maybe our President believed our intelligence and went to war, but that was data given to him, do you really believe that the biggest election in our/mine (Age 31) life time should go to the young vote who is scared to go to war?? I'm not!!!!!!
personally, I can't stand either candidate but have even less patience for Bush given his last 4 years in office. That being said, I found the following from CNN very interesting:
VOTE BY EDUCATION Bush Kerry No High School (4%) 47% 52% H.S. Graduate (22%) 48% 51% Some College (31%) 51% 47% College Graduate (26%) 50% 48% Postgrad Study (17%) 40% 58%
/you'd be amazed how many #$*&^%-ing "nbsp" thingies I had to insert to make that farking data readable...
true...just hard not to remember the keyes carpetbag comedy troup making a pitstop in my state a few years ago. i don't think that nutjob could get elected dog catcher if he was running against barney fife.
do you think the RNC ships him out to races like this just for humor's sake?
At 9:00 Eastern: Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, North and South Dakota, News Mexico and York, Rhode Island, Texas, Wisconsin, Wyoming
M'kay, VA just fell in - bout time, Dubya was sitting on a double-digit plurality for a while. Florida starting to look firm, but I think that's misleading since the big Democratic counties haven't weighed in yet. OH and PA are looking like they're gonna come down to the wire, with Bush holding the edge at the moment. Yeah, at this point it doesn't look unreasonable that Bush will win the popular vote, but may yet lose the EC depending on how the rest fall out.
Tradesports is still showing Kerry as a 2:1 favorite to win. And remember, TS was showing Bush as a 55% to 45% favorite right up until the first exit polls came out. This is actually a good example of how sometimes a market is no smarter than the "experts". A large market can be good if they have access to more information than individual experts can, but unless one of the market makers on TS was polling people independently before today, they only knew as much (or as little) as anyone else.
My fiance and I are actually watching the reports on TV (and on the web) here in Sweden. But as a new Florida voter (I was registered in CA before moving to FL), it's nice to see that my vote might actually matter. Assuming that my absentee ballot actually gets COUNTED, of course! :)
My vote was for Kerry, btw. Why? I liked the idea of remaking the middle east, Iraq first... but the execution of the plan was horrible. And while problems are inevitable, an inability by the Chief Executive to hold anyone accountable for the errors, misjudgements, and just plain fark-ups shows to me a basic character flaw: The inability to admit a mistake.
If nobody below you is to blame, George, then YOU are. Go back to the ranch.
Cheesy_Poof... yeah, that's slow. I'm watching it scroll across my screen since I live here.
JohnnyC... the press wanted everyone to think that because Edwards was from here, this state was a "weak" bush state and Electoral-vote.com had it almost tied 2 weeks ago.
Sigh. Ok. I don't say much here but I'd thought I'd just give my account of things.
I sprained my ankle Sunday (freakin' pothole!). Almost didn't feel like voting but there seems to be this little voice screaming in my head (no, it ain't God) that said VOTE, VOTE, VOTE!
I didn't vote the last election. Hell, I had a great job and I was riding high. Didn't give a shiat who won (well, Gore maybe...). Now I'm broke and scraping by on $250.00 a week with a retail job from hell. Freelancing's a joke because everybody else is broke and won't even reasonably pay for my services. Seems that everyone looking for employees only want interns now.
I'm also a little embarrassed. About my country. About what others around the world think of my country. About how the president and the administration clusterfarked this whole mess. Post 9|11 we were all holding hands, singing and waving flags. Now the country is so divided it could topple as quickly as the national debt.
I went. I voted Democrat...all the way down the line. I felt a little better. Then I heard that Bush - 74, Kerry 37 in electorial votes...
On an ironic note...the question at the bottom of the ballot was about whether the city should "borrow" $27,483,230 (?) for public transportation and other roadway maintanence. I voted yes. At least I'll get that pothole filled...
/please make this happen, please, people...Kerry is SANE. //stop the madness, corruption and stupidity.
jim, that makes more sense (it must be relying on hard numbers)
hmm it's interesting that electoral-vote.com (liberal webmaster) called the election for kerry, while electionprojection.com (conservative webmaster) calls it for bush
Good show! There is much that I like about the Constitution Party. We have to concentrate on getting "3rd Party" candidates into local and then State offices. Then, into the debates.
Neurochemist. You're right. Hurricanes breed conservatism. First time people realize a gun might just come in handy during a disaster to protect your family and property from scum leaves a lasting impression.
Boorring many states have exit polls massively in favor of one candidate or the other. If the exit polls have a margin of error of 3-5% normally, and there's a 10 or 15% difference in the candidates, the networks feel pretty confident calling things early.
In the end, the only difference between electoral-vote.com and election-projection.com appears to be that ev.com gives Florida to Kerry, while ep.com gives it to Bush; and ev.com gives Hawaii to Bush while ep.com gives it to Kerry.
Tin soldiers and Nixon coming, We're finally on our own. This summer I hear the drumming, Four dead in Ohio.
Gotta get down to it Soldiers are gunning us down Should have been done long ago. What if you knew her And found her dead on the ground How can you run when you know?

Tin soldiers and Nixon coming, We're finally on our own. This summer I hear the drumming, Four dead in Ohio.
Trust me, I can see the trend among the hurricane raveged counties in Florida. Bush has got this state wrapped up.
I'm too much the cynical bastard to assume florida goes for Bush until I see more counties report in tho. And then of course we have to brace for the lawsuits.
I work for a company that has 5000 customers all over the country. The only people that can't comprehend how to use our simple software product are people in the south. Makes sense that they'd go for the dumba**.
Don't be counting your chickens yet, Florida is not definite yet or someone would have stuck their neck out and called it already. There are still a lot of pro-Kerry counties that haven't reported yet.
Don't be counting your chickens yet, Florida is not definite yet or someone would have stuck their neck out and called it already. There are still a lot of pro-Kerry counties that haven't reported yet.
I suspect that they aren't calling it because of the fiasco last time.
I'll be surprised to see it shift to Kerry suddenly.
they use exit polls to call in the beginning - not vote results, thats how they can call a state with only 1% or less of the actual precincts reporting - you must listen more closely to Wolf
Interesting to see that, in Maryland, Baltimore is looking Bushie, and Kent is looking Kerryish. Wouldn't have called either of those, though the PG 70% Kerry vote looks about right.
6% seems very high for a 3rd party guy. Be interesting to see if he ends up swinging the vote one way or the other.
Wasn't Nader in the Green Party at one time? I can't remember offhand.
If that's true, I bet people voted for Cobb to make up for the fact that Nader was nowhere on the Ohio ballot and could not be written in (that's what WI means for you n00bs).
yah, its kinda high, but its probably just indicative of the precincts that have reported in so far. by the time its done, i doubt his tally will be above 1%.
looks like the clock says it's quarter to beer. drink if you got 'em.
You must be in a different time zone. It's an hour past beer here.
I am in virginia, bud. beer time is usually at quarter past and quarter 'til. we have been known to bend the rules on special occasions. Having said that, gotta make another beer run!
Alexandra, thanks. I believe Nader was indeed Green Party. Since his bid to get on the OH ballot failed, I suppose the Greenies wrote in this Cobb guy.
My thesis in 2002 was entitled Exit Polls: Do Republicans Avoid Them, or Do Pollsters Avoid Republicans? Seriously... you can look it up on the University Library website.
On a side note, I just got a phonecall from Discover Card, offering me two months free $1.2 million insurance. She said shed mail me some information on it, and I said alrighty. Then she connected me with her supervisor to confirm. The supervisor wanted to confirm my enrollment, so I asked her if I would have to cancel my enrollment after two months by contacting them, or if it is cancelled automatically. She said Id have to do it, so I said now way, man.
Exit polling sucks. Still, Bush loses Ohio and Pennsylvania, but still wins Florida and the popular and electoral votes. Daschle loses. Check my datestamp.
I live in Alabama, so I felt safe voting Badnarik. Bush should be more conservative. Except I didn't want to send the message that Iraq was a bad idea.
I voted for a guy named Scotty Bowman today. Don't remember what he was running for, don't know if he was the ex-coach of the Wings, but hey, I voted for him!
Neurochemist- The Florida division of elections website is running a bit behind. If you look at what they're reporting for Alachua county, and what the county elections website reports, the numbers are off. /praying that Kerry takes Florida.
It's well hidden, under a futon where I keep my dads Playboys. I think when the excitment is over I'll call a 900 number to keep up this cry for help up. :)
I don't think the urban goldmine has been counted in Florida, it could still easily go Kerry. Ohio, I dunno. Bush is prolly going to lose NH, so he better pick up something he lost in 2000, or he really can't afford to lose anything.

Yah -- I'll tell you what it tells me. If 6% are willing to vote for alternative candidate, those are liberal locations that should be heavy Kerry. Looking from the results, they aren't.
Texas U.S. Rep. District 7 has the coolest candidate in the country this year. The Libertarian guy is a heavily bearded nuclear physics prof. Can you beat that?
My old Diff EQ professor was handing out Kerry propoganda in line. She handed me one of those "sample ballots" that was already filled out. I looked at it and told her "I don't think mine's going to look like this." She seemed disappointed.
I inlined the image http://www.supermasterpiece.com/features/stephen/election01.gif to show the pre-results status and got many comments on this. (just search for HairBolus or Poland in this thread) and I got no angry responses.
So why did some mod decide to delete my post. I wish the mods were required to send an email explaining the reson for deleting a post.

On the bright side for Floridians. I watched the trends during the Gubernatorial race. Jeb manipulated the Division of Elections in his back pocket. He deliberately released favorable numbers during the Governor race in '02.
Once the votes were all tallied, Bush's win fell significantly.
Have the major urban areas in Florida been counted? Have Colorado residents voted to split electoral votes? What is happening in Hawaii, Oregon, Nevada, New Mexico, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan? It could still go either way. Damn this is exciting.
me:... Bush should be more conservative. Except I didn't want to send the message that Iraq was a bad idea.
SherKhan:Don't take this wrong but that sounds...nuanced.
Don't take my quote out of context. Badnarik is a great conservative/libertarian in every other way, ideal for my vote because I'm in Alabama and can send a message to Bush that he's not conservative enough, but Badnarik wants to pull out of Iraq. So who do I vote for?

As a Bush voter and NOT a fan, I'm am licking my chops waiting for a McCain & RUDY!!!! Ticket in 2008!!!!!!
Honestly, I'm I am SO waiting for either one of them to run.
I wrote in McCain in 2000 and again this year. I'm not so sure about Rudy, but if McCain is on the ticket in 2008, he could have pretty much anyone as VP and it would be worth it.
cannibolic: Networks and other media types often get vote counts from the precincts themselves, since the vote total for a precinct is usually publicly announced at that precinct at the same time that it's phoned in to the state. So network vote counts may reflect a different set of precincts reporting than the state's vote counts do.
Back to how exit polls suck, look at the DOW today. It was +70 until the exit polls came out saying Kerry was doing well. Then it went -40 within an hour. I'd put the graph here if I had the skillz.
Soldiers and businessfolk like Bush. What does that say?
I hope I'm wrong about Pennsylvania, but I can't wait for Daschle leave.
I keep feeling Bush lost, and then that there is hope, I see Kerry supporters thinking Kerry is losing, I don't know what to think, I'm going crazy!! omg..omg...my head!..stop that ringing!
I understand well enough Kangaroo. Like any other conscientious and informed voter, you voted how you felt best to express yourself in the process. Nuance is not a dirty word.
