Yummy... Ice cream!
2004-11-02 05:10:35 PM
Yeah, but it was Ben and Jerry's, can you blame me?
2004-11-02 05:11:05 PM
Initially I was disgusted; I read the article. It sounds like
they were doing a field trip to go vote. They weren't being
bribed to vote one way or another.

Survey Says: poster needs to Re-RTFA

Funny, some guy gave me ice cream when I voted this morning, so it's not the mentally disa----- oh, god. [smacks forehead]
2004-11-02 05:20:59 PM
I'm sure the lactose-intolerant retarded dude didn't appreciate the bribe. He kept asking for sorbet, but all they would give him was ice cream. Bastards.

Man, for a pint of Ben and Jerry's Coffee Ice Cream anyone can have my vote... yum.

/working till 1am.. no votin' for me
2004-11-02 05:37:54 PM
I guessed right the first time. The headline invalidated me for no reason whatsoever. I call shenanigans.

Mentally disabled people bribed into voting for a candidate in return for Ice Cream

I thought that only worked on Republicans.

* ducks *

I keeed... I also voted for Bush, last election.

I felt the same way when I saw the tagline, but after reading the article, I totally agree. In fact, I bet they all felt really good about being encouraged to vote despite their condition. I think it was kind of sweet, that some people went out of their way to include the poor fellows. Most mentally disabled people KNOW they're mentally disabled, and it's very sad and stressful to deal with that every day. Kudos to the state employees for treating those guys like real people.

Wow, I never thought I'd see a story from Lufkin on Fark. Ah, San Antonio news is so terrible.

I used to work for a place that housed dozens of retarded cirizens (let's dispens w/ the PC rhetoric). They were all registered to vote. Note: these were people that could not even shower unsupervised. But they were all taken to the polling station to do their 'civic duty', Even those who could not read. Guess who told them to vote & who to vote for: the direct care workers who guided them.

This is no exaggeration

They may be retarded citizens, but are not 'citizens' in the sense that they can responsibly weild a vote.

Texans lose the right to vote only if a judge declares them mentally incompetent.

In Florida you can only vote if you are mentally incompetent.
2004-11-02 11:04:32 PM
You know it's bad when you have to bribe mentally disabled people to gather more votes.
2004-11-02 11:06:12 PM
2004-11-02 11:08:04 PM

sorry, meant to add that you put up a nice post. Glad to see this place isn't all flames and vitriol today;)
2004-11-02 11:08:55 PM
the article didn't sound like bribery. anyway, it's TEXAS for chrissakes. no one ever doubted it would go to bush.
2004-11-02 11:08:57 PM

No, really, you know it's bad when those in power are trying to shut down programs that help the disabled.
2004-11-02 11:09:05 PM
I wonder if you could get Bush to vote Kerry, if you offered him some icecream... ;-)
2004-11-02 11:09:31 PM
That ugly duckling is a Swan.
2004-11-02 11:09:49 PM

Aww, thanks!
2004-11-02 11:11:06 PM
the dems are accused of cheating during this election? surprise surprise.
2004-11-02 11:11:11 PM
Don't see why mentally disabled people can't vote in Texas. They've already sent one to the White House.
2004-11-02 11:13:57 PM
Hell I'd have voted for Kerry if I was given ice cream... and I'm not even mentally disabled.
2004-11-02 11:14:16 PM
Ice cream AND some gum. I like gum. MMmmmmm...gum.
2004-11-02 11:14:59 PM
Hey, whatever gets the retards out to the polls is fine by me. I just wish someone hadn't knocked on my door at 9:00 am this morning to remind me to vote. I was incensed, I tells ya.

You do realize that your username says about you that not only were you uncreative enough to think of using "homerj", a Simpsons reference, but that you also weren't creative enough to think of another one so you just mashed a bunch of numbers on it, right?

The key word here is "uncreative".
2004-11-02 11:15:04 PM
What about......... FREE IPODS?!??
2004-11-02 11:15:08 PM
Hey, don't knock it....I'd do farked up, freaky Taylor Rain type shiat for free Jerry Garcia ice cream.
2004-11-02 11:15:12 PM
That is really sad. What kind of low life, piece of excrement would take advantage of mentally challenged people in such a fashion?

Actually, you would be suprised at the number of Texans who thought Kerry might be able to take it. Yeah, it was wishful thinking, and I told them so, but they still had hope.
2004-11-02 11:16:31 PM
These GOP reps need to stop whining. Big deal if they did use ice cream to get them to vote for's not like Kerry was gonna win Texas anyway.
2004-11-02 11:17:06 PM
If only Texas would secede....
2004-11-02 11:17:09 PM

I voted for the candidate who was more sparkly. Oh oh, five minutes to .. OHHHHHHHH, four minutes to the Daily Show with John Stewart !!

I declare Cos the official winner of this thread!

rocinante721 Yeah. They got no right! Now if we could get rid of the blind, too! Oh, and the aged and infirm. And the IRISH!

Normally Fark doesn't have very many stories about San Antonio on here... however, we had both the story about dissing Cash's window AND bribing the mentally handicapped to vote.

This place sucks. Doesn't anything good ever happen where I live?
2004-11-02 11:32:51 PM
Somewhere out there, Micheal Moore is frantically masturbating to this news.
2004-11-02 11:49:15 PM
LBJ is unavailable for comment!
2004-11-02 11:52:18 PM
Its a good idea actually...
2004-11-02 11:52:57 PM
we did WHAT to his window?!?!? Just kidding. As a fellow San Antonian I am obligated to note your typos.
2004-11-02 11:54:33 PM
Oh, and this story was just reported by SA, so Johnny Cash's vandalism is the "only" bad thing to happen.
2004-11-03 12:11:59 AM

Don't forget all the sex in the Alamo stories.
2004-11-03 12:20:45 AM
Retards shouldn't be able to vote.

Florida included.
2004-11-03 12:27:32 AM
Well, they consider the retarded competent to be executed in Texas, so they should consider them competent to vote.
2004-11-03 12:49:49 AM

Careful dude. I assisted my retarded sister with her absentee ballot by reading each item carefully and marking it as she wanted. Likewise, I did the same for my elderly mom as she's nearly blind.

At what IQ level do you suggest we make the cut at? Myself, I believe if anyone is of age and has opinions on whomever is running or on what issue is on the ballot, they should vote.

If they used a compassion quota to determine voter eligibility, I can see a few flunking that requirement in this thread.
2004-11-03 12:56:03 AM
My wife works with retards.

They had to take them to vote today.

She wanted to vote for George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

She didn't even know who Bush and Kerry were.

Nuff said.
2004-11-03 02:48:24 AM
Your wife didn't know?
2004-11-03 04:08:20 AM
The GOP is just jealous they didn't think of it first. Maybe they will give black ppl ice cream next year instead of standing outside the polls with baseball bats and waving fingers, no no no!
