"I express my deep regret at the taxpayer's death,"

That about sums up their thinking... not "the citizen's death," but the taxpayer's.

What's that line about death and taxes? Seems appropriate somehow.

Considering that the amount is equal to several years pay in Poland, I think I would have had an arm go numb myself.

2004-11-01 03:31:30 PM
I would have freaked out to if someone told me I owed 80,000 zlotys. I don't even know what a farkin' zlotys is!!

On a side note, I did get to tell a tax client that she owed $100,000+ in taxes one time.

2004-11-01 04:31:19 PM
I'd be freaked out if I woke up in a strange place naked with an empty bottle of roofies on the nightstand next to Mork from Ork. I would be even more freaked out if he then told me I owed him 80,000 zlotskys for services rendered. I guess I would ask him what the shazbot he was talking about.

Locksmith Zbigniew Macewicz died during a hearing in the central city of Bydgoszcz, where tax collectors demanded 80,000 zlotys...

Whoa...that sounds just like the ad-libbed story my 5-y-o niece told me the other night. Names have been scrambled to protect the innocent.

For craps sake somebody buy a vowel.

2004-11-01 04:49:37 PM
Wow, and I thought our IRS was bad when they farked up and dedcided in 1998 that I had paid 2,200+ LESS on my 1996 taxes then they said I should have and sent me a bill. I spent about 20 hours of my time along with my tax preparer and got them to realize they were mistaken, they reduced it to $144 which I still didn't owe but at that point said fark it I've already spent too much time on this already.

Bloody mindless bastard morans our IRS is.

2004-11-01 04:52:06 PM
What do you think about THIS???

2004-11-01 04:54:51 PM
money and debt will never matter that much to me.

2004-11-01 04:56:39 PM
C'mon, I'm half-Polish and living proof that not all Pollacks are stupid.

I may be half out of my mind at times...but not stupid.

Heh...if that happened here, I'd be smelling a lawsuit right about now....

2004-11-01 04:56:55 PM
I used to prank call my friends and family telling them i was the irs and that they owed some ridiculous amount of money. Good thing nobody died.

Zeparabola,
That thing hypnotizes me! What is it?

Locksmith Zbigniew Macewicz died during a hearing in the central city of Bydgoszcz, where tax collectors demanded 80,000 zlotys because he failed to keep to a restructuring agreement

Zbigniew? Macewicz? Bydgoszcz? Zlotys? I thought the article was for real until I read that paragraph.

2004-11-01 04:58:51 PM
Wrongful death lawsuit???

/unfortunately, I work for lawyers/

2004-11-01 04:59:03 PM
This is the way the liberals want it (Sarcasm - but a ring of truth to it). Of course, I'm speaking of the libs who DON'T pay taxes (you know those types... want a free lunch and to eat it too. "Put it on "his" tab, please....).

2004-11-01 04:59:03 PM
Just the mere thought of 4 more years under the current administration is enough to give anyone a heart attack.

2004-11-01 04:59:29 PM
Dunno! I can only guess what that thing is. I don't understand it, but it haunts my dreams.

2004-11-01 05:01:42 PM
This reminds me of that time a couple of years ago when I went into the Taco Bell in Warsaw and tried to pay for my tostada with a $200 Zloty bill....

Took me months to get it all sorted out with Interpol.

2004-11-01 05:03:51 PM
acurus
money and debt will never matter that much to me.

...most people who say that have plenty of the former and little of the latter or so much of the former that the latter doesn't rather matter.

2004-11-01 05:03:52 PM
I wonder if their write-in vote still counts now. I suspect that this is a republican scam that is being sent to all Florida and Ohio voters over the age of 55.

2004-11-01 05:05:53 PM
This was just a beta test for the IRS incase Kerry's plan gets implemented.

2004-11-01 05:09:59 PM
Don't forget Poland.

Yeah, but will his vote count?

2004-11-01 05:13:33 PM
My will should have something in there about destroying all of my posessions so the state doesn't get a free yard sale.

zeparabola

Is that the loch-ness monster....somehow I thought he would be scarier

2004-11-01 05:14:32 PM
Okay, now I ead the article. The government of Bydgoszcz probably wanted the extra taxes to buy vowels.

2004-11-01 05:26:04 PM
It's not that there's too few vowels, it's that there's too many consonants.

/"y" is a vowel
//"sz" is a consonant ("sh")
///"cz" is a consonant ("ch")
////Yes, you can string them together without a vowel

2004-11-01 05:28:42 PM
The IRS recently sent me a letter saying I owed them an extra $800. I called them up and they discovered (surprise surprise) that they had f'ed up. They fixed the problem immediately. How's that for service??

2004-11-01 05:29:58 PM
This guy is a goner if you know who wins.

2004-11-01 05:30:45 PM
The government expressed regret over the incident.

"I express my deep regret at the taxpayer's death," [said] deputy Finance Minister Stanislaw.

Well, I guess they really did express regret.

2004-11-01 05:31:47 PM
Pardon if I'm stating the obvious, but it looks like what happened is that he did owe them 80K, but had entered into an installment payment agreement. An error by the department made them think he was in arrears on his installment payments and therefore immediately liable for the full amount. They didn't misplace a decimal or add some extra zeroes.

2004-11-01 05:36:23 PM
zlotys...isn't that a flavor of ice cream...or not...they sell sandwiches there...
