My favorite part is when Gretzky says:

"We have a saying in the NHL, 'Payback is an ampersand'"

I'm not sure what it means, but I like it.

2002-02-19 11:06:58 AM
whoopeedeedo........i dont care

2002-02-19 11:07:33 AM
"Nobody wants us to win but our players and our loyal fans," Gretzky added.

Who else would want you to win, pinhead? I don't expect anyone but the United States' team and its loyal fans would want it to win, either.

Can we include Canada in the war on terror to stop the flooding of our land with tears?

2002-02-19 11:08:35 AM
I have a saying too

"Never eat cheese before Noon" and brother I'm not lying

Gretzky - reinforcing the stereotype that Canadians are whiny pussies.

With the exception of Sale, she's a hottie!

2002-02-19 11:13:36 AM
Holy shiat... this is the first ESPN link I believe I have clicked on... it seems the majority of farkers would rather read about basketball or football... 'bout damn time some Hockey gets thrown in the mix!

2002-02-19 11:14:33 AM
And what's more "sale" means "dirty" in French. Woo hoo!!

2002-02-19 11:15:20 AM
I certaintly don't want canada to win, because I'm not a pussy Canadian.

Anyone here think Leclair is really Canadian? You ever hear that guy talk. He is either Canadian or drunk, I can't tell.

2002-02-19 11:16:13 AM
He should have taken Roy and Thorton. Although I dispise Roy, he is a damn good goaltender.

2002-02-19 11:16:42 AM
I kind of agree with Gretsky: That was a dirty hit out there. But they're right, it's almost commonplace for those types of plays to get ignored. Sucks.

I agree with Ironbar though, Sale is farking hot!!

gretzky's biatching about hitting was old in the 80's. He is the greatest hockey player of all time, but he completely disregards the physical aspects of the game.

or maybe he's just a pussy.

2002-02-19 11:21:17 AM
maybe he's a pussy? does he really need to try any harder to prove it?

2002-02-19 11:21:34 AM
HA HA HA! Fleury got dropped like a turd in a well.

He is such a little prick.

2002-02-19 11:21:42 AM

It's payback time.

2002-02-19 11:22:11 AM
Whine Gretzky should just shut up. His tirade is no Phil Esposito tirade of 72. Even that was nothing back then - but has been built up to legendary status.

GO CANADA GO!

2002-02-19 11:22:57 AM
Ya, he's pissing me off. I saw this coming when he was being such an ass picking the players. Now he's worried that he's going to look like an idiot, so he blames everyone else. Yeah here's a tip, players can't manage a team. Some can, but they have to prove it before they're asked to do it in the Olympics.

2002-02-19 11:26:37 AM
The Canadians aren't losing that badly and outplayed the Czechs like crazy last night. If it wasn't for Hasek it wouldn't have been a close game at all. The Gretz might be a pussy but hitting a guy who is 5'6" from behind doesn't make Hamerlik look to good either as a tough guy. Yeah those hits happen in normal NHL play, but in a normal game Sandy Mccarthy would have fed that dumb fvck his stick. Until he loved him even.

Go Canada!

2002-02-19 11:26:56 AM
I blame Gretzky and Lemieux for the death of fighting in todays NHL games. They wanted finesse players with amazing speed and skill. What they got was prima donna pussy players and a very boring game. Thanks guys!

2002-02-19 11:29:28 AM
Nolan was laying guys out left and right as were Pronger and Blake. We have some guys who can hit. And last night's game was anything but boring.

2002-02-19 11:29:31 AM
He's got a point though, I can't see a Canadian or American player doing that to one of those little Europeans and getting away with it.

2002-02-19 11:30:00 AM
Gretzky can kiss my ass.
As a Canadian I am tired of hearing his winning. Some one touches him and he goes down hard crying saying they were trying to hurt him. He slashed someone and claims innocense.

fark him and the horse he rode in on.

2002-02-19 11:30:24 AM

it's ok wayne, canada will lose no matter what anyway

I didn't see any ampersand.

It looked like he said, "Payback is an elipsis".

Refs do ignore those hits; it is the ref's job to keep the game moving, not to call penalties. that is the role of referees in hockey (at least that's what they told us at AHAUS ref school).

if you called every little(or big) infraction, the game would bog down, so they only penalize the most egregious violations.

BB34: yup, your right.

2002-02-19 11:35:40 AM
Does anyone else think that hockey is more fun to watch on the big rink. Why did the NHL ever decide to play on a smaller one.

And the two line pass rule is stupid. Watching the Olympics there are more breakaways, better play development and more scoring opportunities.

2002-02-19 11:37:33 AM
When did France surrenders?

2002-02-19 11:41:00 AM
I say change the rules to what I have set on my PS2. No offsides or icing, penalties off.

The NHL has been trying to tweak the game to make it more entertaining to the masses. Which ain't gonna work. The reason for the decent ratings this weekend was the whole "Ruskies suck" attitude, not the game.

Hockey always has an always will be a somewhat closed sport. You either like it or you think its stupid (I love the game BTW). Leave it the way it is and move on.

2002-02-19 11:41:30 AM
Please... oh please... let us play the states. Shut up you noisey windbags for another 4 years.

Go Canada go!

2002-02-19 11:42:23 AM
Wayne Gretzky = Bob Saget on skates.

Why are Canadian males always such pussies? Must be the French influence.

2002-02-19 11:46:59 AM
Screw the whiny-ass Gretzky...he looked way too intense during the game yesterday. If we not have applied so much pressure to the Canadian team/people to end the 50 year drought, maybe his team would be performing up to their potential, and not worrying about Wayne biatching his head off...Here is the true hero of yesterday's game, of the Canadian hopes for any medal, and quite frankly, the greatest of all time....

2002-02-19 11:51:16 AM
A-bomb: The NHL should implement the 15 seconds before faceoff rule. Olympic hockey is about the only hockey I can stand to watch because it doesn't take reaking forever to get the new line ou there to the faceoff circle. You're either in position or you aren't, either way, the puck drops.

BLAME CANADA! They're not even a real country, anyway.

2002-02-19 11:54:20 AM
I think the two-line rule is good.

It's hard to call it a real 'break away' when someone who isn't in the play cherrypicks and gets the puck when it slides his way.

The two line rule serves a purpose-- it makes the game more a team effort and less of a 'cheap' effort.

Second of all, Don't fark with the great one.

Whoah!
Americans whining about how Canadians are pussies.
That's irony for ya.

Problem with International hockey: Someone hits you dirty, retaliation results in a match penalty. Result: Pussy hockey. The only way to retaliate is Gretzky's method -- complaining, which makes you look like a whiner.

Problem with NHL hockey: Someone hits you dirty, third player in gets suspended. Result: Pussy hockey.

Problem with all hockey: No iron posts in the nets. Result: Forwards know they can crash the net without getting impaled, big-assed crease, stupid no-goals, whiny goalies, etc.

My solution: Put the posts back in the nets. Let goons beat up dirty players. Suck it up.

2002-02-19 12:00:19 PM
Definitely the two-line rule should go. The hockey is so much faster with the long passes. In high school and money tournaments I used to play there was no red line and the games were much more interesting and were much faster.

2002-02-19 12:02:46 PM
For all yuou Canadians that are jumping off the bandwagon. fark YOU! You were the same people that said we could not lose, we had it in the bag... we will win, it will be a Sweden / Canada gold medal. Suck a$$ Betman is creaming himself for a Canada / US gold, with US winning gold but that wont happen. The suckhole yanks will perish and finish in forth - no medal.

Gretzky is pissed off for good reason, reporters try and make the news, not report it. The talk radio shiatheads are trying to get Canada to think the game is in trouble, blah, blah, blah.....

YES. Canada played the shiats for a few games

YES. Thortnon should be there

NO. Roy should not (he would be great but if his heart is not in it fark him

YES. Canada will win gold

YES. Gretzky is an amazing player (yes IS - he could still strap on the blades and out score more than half of the league

YES. A hurt Mario is better than most healthy players

NO. The yanks will never shiat there gaping, whiny, weak-beer swillin, inbred pie-holes.

2002-02-19 12:03:14 PM
Dorf11, good call. If you are going to pretend to be a tough guy by playing dirty or using too much stick you should be made to back it up when a real tough guy comes after you. Hockey would be cleaned up.

2002-02-19 12:03:14 PM
If our goalies did as job a job as the ones on the teams we're facing-- Canada outshoots its opponents but gets a score that's not that stellar. Bad goaltending or just shoddy defence?

2002-02-19 12:03:19 PM
Or let Jamie Sale pick the players, she can just stand around and look good, and we won't have to listen Gretzky whine like a little biatch with a skinned knee.

2002-02-19 12:06:09 PM
I have followed Wayne Gretzky's career all my life and I've never heard him talk like this before. Maybe he is trying to cause a ruckus to stir up the team? The Canadians just hate the fact that the rest of the world can give them a game in hockey.

Anyways, I don't know if anyone knows this fact, but since 1932 when the Winter Olympics are held in the States the U.S.A. men's hockey team has NEVER lost a game on home ice.
So put your money on the U.S.A. to win it all.

2002-02-19 12:06:48 PM
The only thing Canada has going for itself is that it borders the U.S. That country is a dump full of sniveling inbreds. And if you thing I'm wrong about the inbred part, then just look at Sale's eyes.....they're all farked up. As for Gretzky.....his wife is one fine piece of ass.

2002-02-19 12:08:55 PM
I think Canada has produced far better hockey players in the past and present. Unfortunately, they are not playing in this years Olympics.

And for all you Gretzky haters out there, you may not like him off the ice but you can't deny that he was one of the greatest players to ever play the game.

I kinda like the bigger ice, but I do think the lack of a redline makes the game cheap. I like seeing scoring chances, but I'd rather see them earned. As far as the faceoff thing goes, I think the short time is good, but from a TV viewing perspective, it's too short. At least on american tv, when we come back from commercial we've already missed some action. How long is the break between faceoffs in the NHL? A tiny bit over 30 seconds would be cool - go straight to commercial on a whistle and come back just in time for the faceoff. That way you wouldn't even need tv timeouts. But I'm not a hugely loyal viewer (love going to games - I'm cheap though, I miss minor league hockey here) so I don't exactly know what the NHL standard is.

As far as Gretzky's whining, it seemed to me like a calculated move to draw attention to him and away from Canada's team sucking (no offense, canadians, but that team looked like crap in their first two games), and to create an "us against the world" sort of atmosphere. It's a pretty standard management tact.

As an American I'm glad we got the top seed to we get a relatively easy first round matchup, but there's no way I'm counting Canada out. They're just too talented, on a good day they can beat anyone.
