I'm fascinated that our government could lie to us so blatantly, so obviously for so long, and we do absolutely nothing about it. I think that's interesting in what is ostensibly a democracy. Sarcasm - come on in.

One reason is that the tape may be a communication to some of his followers -- who, in practice, are the dangerous ones.

A second reason, quite frankly, is that a sizeable percentage of the world is unduly obsessed with famous individuals, and adopt simplistic views of the world in which a few movers and shakers deserve responsibility for far too much. Witness, for instance, the Democratic-aligned groups cheerfully blaming Bush for high gas prices, while not bothering to mention the problems that Yukos, Royal Dutch Shell, Nigerian oil producers, the difficulty of economically funding more refineries, increased demand from China's growing manufacturing industry, and so forth. It's easier to assign credit or blame to a name, even when it's wrong.
