Taco Bell is crap. REAL Mexican food is wonderful. When the single Mexican family in my town opened a restaurant, I tried it out and have not gone back to Taco Hell yet. Great, cheap, tasty food.

And does anyone else find it funny that what is called a chalupa or a tostada at Taco Bell is a totally different item at real Mexican places?

Well, Latino pride aside (like I really have any, I'm Spanish.) Mexico hasn't contributed much cultural stuff that I like. The music is heinous, the male-dominated family structure is a real pain, not to mention that the illegal Mexican immigrants we have running around in the U.S. are here illegally because either
A: they couldn't qualify for citizenship or
B: they didn't even want to apply (Lotta cool Mexicans in the world, but the illegal immigrants aren't exactly the most upstanding specimens.)

I may not be backed up here by any other native Hispanics, but in the Latin community, Northern Mexico and its denizens are seen much as rural Alabama is viewed in the U.S. Even their accent when speaking Spanish sounds boorish and provincial. (Begins picking banjo...)

As for the great food, it owes as much to spice-loving Texans and Cajuns as it does to Mexico.

So what has Mexico provided for us? Texas, mostly. And parts of other southwestern states. Thanks for the land, amigos!

Yeah, Northern Mexico is more like Texas than many other latin American country. Too bad many americans think All Latin American Countries (including non-spanish speaking ones like Brazil) are just like Mexico. Hey, I'm sure they think Spain is just like Mexico. I mean, God. I'm sure 90% of americans think Spain is a city in Mexico or something. And that hispanic is a type of brown. Anyway, the word Latino sounds very very very very stupid, specialy in english, so say hispanic.

Good point Spram, recanting my use of the word Latino now. I'm not even sure why I used it. American racial terms are messed up, and I think I succumbed to peer pressure on that one. (Like the time I ordered quesadillas at Chilis and anglicised(sp) the pronunciation. My roomate caught me on that one. I'm slipping, I'm turning into a gringo. That is maturing faster, not growing. People usually say that because girls are always interested in boys first, and usually try to act grown up first. While boys just like to play around for the rest of their lives.

Seeing all these women athletes prove their relevance and revel in their femininity by posing in Playboy makes me think of the 1950s when women's basketball players wore open midriff shirts and they had beauty pageants at the half because no one would care otherwise.
