Glad to see the Air Force is using the internets now.

Yeah, and in the headline shouldn't "wrong" be "wrongly" smartypants submitter?

2004-10-26 11:30:41 PM
Perhaps they fixed the error. In any case, spelling was never a priority for us.

Maybe they're looking for people who are smart enough to notice the typo and point it out?

No, I mean it's not misspelled anywhere. Either they fixed it or the submitter was wrong and... Oh to hell with this.

Mods, kill this article already.

lol... check again, MisterMike... it's misspelled...

I just showed it to three friends, and they didn't notice it either.

Now I don't feel as stupid.

2004-10-27 12:09:31 AM
Is it a graphic or text? Because none of the graphics are showing up when I view the page, and I went as far as to even search the source code for "Intellegenge" and I found nothing.

I'm beginning to think this is a play on the old gullible is not in the dictionary joke

Air Force Reserve Intellegence.

Yous and your friends need to look harder.

MisterMike

If you can't see the graphic you can't see the spelling error.

They didn't spell it wrong, it's reserved intelligence.

reserve: Pronunciation Key (r-zrv)
tr.v. reserved, reserving, reserves

1. To keep back, as for future use or for a special purpose.

So there, the intelligence will be used later on.

It's right there man.

I would expect that, were I intellIgent enough, I would probably decide to forego the Air Force Reserve in favor of more lucrative remuneration.

2004-10-27 12:19:22 AM
I see it. It's a graphic that has a black background with white text on it... that's why no one is finding it with the search tool.

anyways...

what do you expect from a bunch of airheads?

There should be an 'e' on that.

Oxymoron: Military Intelligence

Overheard in the Air Force Reserve lounge:

"Yes, General, our covert op to infiltrate Fark has executed nominally."

"Does it matter that we look bad?"

"That's an acceptable loss, sir."

as an airman, i have to say, throughout my training i've seen some creative spelling and punctuation. but i've also seen some pretty bright people make small mistakes with spelling and grammar, it doesn't mean they're stupid. not to put flamebait out there after my long time away from fark, but these bad spellers and i defend your freedom to spell things however you like, whether that's properly or unprprly.

"Eligibility
You must meet the following requirements to be considered for the intelligence field:

You must be a United States citizen.

You must meet all physical requirements.

You must have an undergraduate degree.

You must be commissioned by your 35th birthday.

You will be expected to take and pass the Armed Forces Officer Qualifying Test (AFOQT) and any other prequalifying exams.

They forgot the most important one:

You must be willing to die in shiatty little countries at the whim of idiots in Washington.

No no no, you have it all wrong. Intelligence people in any service stay far far away from where bullets are flying. I was going to make fun of the Air Force but I figured that's not fair to all the REMFs in the Army I've met.

A question to everyone, am I the only one who is annoyed at farkers who have to create a political conversation out of every article? "Oh hey, a boobies post... let's make fun ofarkerry/Bush)! I'm clever!"

Something is screwed up. Not only is the site not showing any images on either my Firefox or IE browsers, the links posted here are not showing up either. Probably another XP SP2 "feature".

As a former Airman, I can agree with you...go look at any doc in FP. They mispell wrong all the time and cover it up with just some sloppy writing.

Hoever, just say that at the time that this web ad was put together all of the Airman graphic artists were walking the line with their M16's, and a civilian group put the page together.

Works for me at http://s0b.bluestreak.com/adv/afrc-/%5E5010/%5E286768/oa_intelligence_01.gif

I suppose the %5E5010 might be throwing something off. Did you just update Firefox? I have SP2 and Firefox Preview Release and I see it.

As a former Airman (it's capitalized now, btw) and NCO, I have to say playing the "i defend your freedom" card in a thread about a trivial (albeit ironic/funny) spelling error on a website is quite lame. No one in here was questioning the service, or your service. Also, please purchase this book as soon as you possibly can. Read it. Apply it.

Neither was privoxy till i turned off ad blocking...privoxy practically blocked the whole damn page!

2004-10-27 12:51:45 AM
I submited one of there application forms and mentioned in the comments section that it was spelled wrong. Lets see how long it takes them to fix it.

What scares me is that it's misspelled in the graphic, not the text. If it was the text it could just be one recruiter who made a typo. A graphic like that has probably been reviewed/worked on by many people and will be used in other ad campaigns.

And this is no dig on the uniformed services. It was probably subcontracted out to a civvy graphic designer.

I think he was more trying to be ironic by suggesting it is heroic by protecting your freedom to bad speling, and gramer...

I disabled my Symantec FW and Avant ad-blocking to see the black graphics. I don't know which one of the two was blocking it, and I'm too tired to give a damn.
