"I have no strong feelings one way or another, but if (a Red Sox championship) would mean that no one would bother me or my kids, I guess I would like to see them win it," Buckner said.

That's pretty sad. If any of you TFers engage in this kind of lunacy, especially years upon years after an incident, do me a favor and take your own life. Thanks.

I wouldn't exactly say Buckner's been "hiding out." He's done the "Take Me Out To the Ball Game" bit at Wrigley Field a couple of times.

Boston fan's worst nightmare:

You're on the roof of a burning building with your three-year old daughter. The only way to save her is to drop her into a net firemen are holding 10 floors down. With infinite care, you hold out your daughter over the edge and position her to fall exactly into the center of the net. Saying a prayer, you let her go. Just then, all the firemen look up and they are all Bill Buckner.

take your own life

Buckner tried. He jumped in front of a bus. But it went between his legs.

It's sad that people are shiatty to him and his kids. It's not like it was his fault. How could he really stand up against the curse?

/just kidding. I hate his ass. But I wouldn't threaten his family. There's no need for that.

take your own life

Maybe I was a little harsh on that. But bothering the man's family steps way over the line in my book and should grant you a nice beatdown.

2004-10-26 10:58:54 PM
Leave the man and his family alone.

2004-10-26 11:14:43 PM
Just confirms that the Red Sox Nation has a few screws loose.

It was McNamara's managing and Stanley's pitching that cost them the game. The game should have been over well before the infamous ground ball. Let alone Buckner's legs were so bad the guy could barely move. He should have been taken out for a defensive replacement. Then they blew game 7. I guess they need a scapegoat.

Just let it go and let Buckner live in peace.

It's been almost two decades, and I still agree with him. Screw the replay, it's a conspiracy.

*him and his family

2004-10-26 11:29:43 PM
Well you know what. Pick up the ball. And no one will beat up your kids.

The world series is like NASCAR.

It's only exciting when something goes wrong.

2004-10-26 11:31:21 PM
Now Guinness, what's wrong with "leave he alone"?

Thanks, Guinness.

That saved me from typing "... him and his family ..."

Mookie Wilson was the real hero. Buckner was just his victim.

2004-10-26 11:38:47 PM
Some sports people always confused me. They riot when their team wins. And they still farkin bother this Buckner guy?? Who cares if he made a mistake. How much of an idiot and a farkin nobody do you have to be to worry about mistakes people made 20 farkin years ago?? I mean hey I guess it gives them some reason to continue their pitiful existence, hate for Buckner, but grow the fark up. If Bill ever needs somebody to sit outside his house with a shotgun ready to shoot any "intruders" I'd be more than willing.

if anyone listens to the dan patrick show on espnradio, you know buckner is a semi regular. on every month or so, couldnt be a nicer guy, who had a good big league career. sad thing is he has been haunted by that damn ground ball, eventhough the red sox still had to lose the seventh game. He played for cubs and red sox, i mean cmon you are bound to have some bad shiat happen to you when on either one of those teams.

but either way, good big leaguer, great teammate, all that ruined by one groundball.

davidortiz, thats wrong in so many ways. better hope david ortiz doesnt let one roll through his legs.

sox up 3-0

2004-10-26 11:41:19 PM
Please leave the poster and he's grammar alone!

2004-10-26 11:42:31 PM
I met him in 91 when I gave him a ski lesson. He's a really nice guy. I don't think he really ever deserved the abuse he's gotton. The sox lost, but it was a team effort. It shouldn't have come down to one play, by one man..

2004-10-26 11:44:25 PM
He's a man who played a game and made a mistake. Nobody died because of his mistake...anyone who holds a grudge against a man for that long for such a stupid thing ought to eat a gun. I mean...really...

2004-10-26 11:45:34 PM
yes I agree with you all, but wth is all the goat stuff

2004-10-26 11:45:48 PM
Maybe I am missing something super obvious, but what did bill buckner do that was so bad?

/7 at the time.

2004-10-26 11:47:34 PM
Is Scott Norwood hiding out with him?

2004-10-26 11:48:25 PM
nobody even remembers that the buckner error happened when the game was already tied...and that it was game 6. Blame the Sox for losing game 7, please.

2004-10-26 11:53:36 PM
meh, they'll find an inventive way to blow it this year too - up 3 games or not.

2004-10-26 11:55:11 PM
Buckner was my favorite player when I was a kid (when he was with the Dodgers). I got his autograph when he made an appearance at a grocery store, when I was in junior high. "22" became my favorite number. What happened to that dude, the way he's been treated by history, is disgusting. First of all, he didn't blow the series for them. That game was already tied and in extra innings and in NY, who's to say the Mets weren't going to win it anyway? And it was only G6, they managed to fark up G7. Secondly, the Sox' bullpen blew the game. Thirdly, he was a damn good player, great contact hitter, had good speed in his day, even won a batting title one year. Ted Williams saw him in spring training one year, think it was '69, and said "someday that kid's going to win a batting title", and he did. Respect for Bill Buckner. Anyone who doesn't is a misguided baseball fan and can kiss my ass.

If you believe in curses you may not be very intelligent.

2004-10-26 11:57:00 PM
The poor man, he should not have been in the game fer chrissake. F'n McNamara.

Let this man live in peace goddamnit. I pray that in 24 hours all of this tripe is put to an end with a Red Sox victory in the World Series.

2004-10-26 11:57:55 PM

Ah, so he's in Idaho, huh ? The day is mine, Buckner, and you shall not evade me like a ground ball !!!! I'm coming for you on two good ankles !!!!

Actually, Shiraldi is fist on my crap list. What a bad pitcher.

You Fat Bish, The Curse of the Billy Goat has to do with the Cubs.

"Sam Gianis, owner of the Billygoat Tap, which was inspiration for John Belushi's "cheesborger, cheeseborger" routine, tried to bring a billygoat to a game 4 of the 1945 WS.

When he was kicked out unceremoniously, to retaliate, Sianis cast a "goat curse" on the Cubs by saying, "Cubs, they not gonna win anymore" For 50+ years, they have not been back to the WS."

2004-10-26 11:59:22 PM
Right on heyzeus. That's what's so incredibly sad about the whole thing. What people forget about the Buckner miss (and the Steve Bartman incident for that matter) is that it was GAME 6!!! And if Baseball is such a momentum game, then how come the Arizona Diamondbacks could come back after Byung Hyun Kim's two consecutive blown saves? Give it a rest already.

2004-10-27 12:03:46 AM
Seems kind of like blaming Gore's loss on the state of Florida, when he didn't win even Tennessee.

One play does not a lost Series make.

Anyone who would think so, and actually harrass a person and his family over it, is deranged and probably dangerous.

2004-10-27 12:08:13 AM
I hate to say it but I kind of want to see the Sox lose, LIke watching a slow motion car wreck.

Just saying

Here is an excerpt from an old Sports Illustrated article about what happened to Mitch Williams after he gave up the winning home run to Joe Carter in the 1993 World Series:

Williams was a different story. "Wild Thing" was his nickname and theme song, and he had Philadelphia rocking and rolling in the '93 season when he racked up 43 saves. Then one pitch, one swing, and it was all over.

Joe Carter's Series-winning homer for Toronto with two outs in the bottom of the ninth in Game 6 wrecked Williams' career. Phillies fans, who once sang and danced for him, deluged him with hate mail, some of it threatening. Williams, packing a gun for protection, retreated to his Texas ranch. He was traded, thought about quitting, tried to make a comeback with Houston in 1994, and finally retired after going 1-4 with six saves and a 7.65 ERA.

What do Bill Buckner and Michael Jackson have in common?

They both wear a glove on one hand for no apparant reason.

Thank you. I'll be here all night.

2004-10-27 12:25:09 AM
What kills me about the Buckner deal is that 9 out of 10 people who THINK they know about it think that the "out" he missed would have given Boston the championship.

THE SCORE WAS ALREADY TIED.

Get learned here: http://www.sportingnews.com/baseball/25moments/8.html

You might be able to make claim he gave the Mets that game, which is to assume that the Red Sox would have came back won anyway. And don't get me started over game 7.

I'm rooting for the Red Sox this time -- I have a some buddies in Boston and I know they are dying to see this happen. I think, for the most part, the fans there are good people. That said, the scum sucking pathetic losers who harassed this man, and worse his family, should be sent to the 10th level of hell forever. And while not as bad, it would have been nice to see more people IN Boston stand up to these ackjasses so that the man didn't have to move to BFE.

2004-10-27 12:25:21 AM
i'm still amazed by how many sports stations / writers still portray it as "Bill Buckner lost the World Series for the Red Sox".

THE GAME WAS TIED. Even if Buckner picks up the ball and steps on first, there's no guarantee that the Sox win that game. 18 years later people still need to be reminded of that.

/Red Sox fan ... excited but still nervous!

No, he was the Red Sox first baseman, not A 7 FOOT TALL BEAST MAN WHO SHOWERS IN VODKA AND FEEDS HIS BABY SHRIMP SCAMPY!

2004-10-27 12:34:28 AM
Good lord. Bob f---ing Stanley is the B we should be after. That guy blew the game no question. His Wild Pitch allowed the run to score. If Buckner picks up the ball, the Mets still probably win. The Mets have all the momentum and probably win it in later innings.

Meanwhile -- 1 win to go.

2004-10-27 12:37:22 AM
As a sox fan who was 8 months old for the Buckner mishap, I only know second hand stories from my dad, who was ready to pop the cork before that inning. Regardless of game 6 or 7, the sox SHOULD HAVE won that game, which is why it hurts so much.

However, without Buckner, the Sox would not have made post season that year. Also, Buckner should not have been in on defense in the first place; he's a hitter, not a fielder.

IF the sox win this year (please, oh please), Buckner is off the hook in my opinion, and I plead for any other sox fans who read this post to forgive him as well.

This year, all the ghosts get exorcized.

Did anyone watch tonight's game? Manny's defensive DP? Supan's brain fart on 3rd? This curse (it never existed) is D.E.A.D. For those of you not rooting for us -- I hope, sincerely, for you that you get to experience the amazing joy that we are all enjoying. Padres? Coyotes? Grizzlies? Whatever. This is culture. Get over yourselves. We'll shut up after the win (least till the Pats win their 3rd). ahahahhahahahahhahaha! IT'S OUR TURN BABY.

Did somebody say Idaho????

2004-10-27 12:52:20 AM
Buckner is full of crap. You know he's begging and pleading with God to let the Red Sox win. I remember during last year's playoffs after the Red Sox got bounced in the ALCS, Dan Patrick had Buckner on his radio show. When Patrick asked why Buckner moved to such an isolated place in Idaho, Buckner swore up and down that it was because he got a good real estate tip up there and had nothing to do with the 1986 World Series.

Patrick laughed.

"I sent Billy Buckner two tickets to the show, but he couldn't bend over to pick them up." -- Pete Rose @ WWF WrestleMania 14 in Boston

2004-10-27 12:53:16 AM
Could be worse for Buckner. He could be Escobar.

...

Wait, this is Fark, nobody likes soccer. Fine, background.

1994 World Cup, Colombia's playing the U.S., Escobar is a Colombian defender who inadvertently deflects an American pass into his own net, Colombia loses the game, gets eliminated from the tournament. He goes home to Colombia, three days later he gets shot and killed because of it.

Even still, probably sucks to be Buckner.
