Too bad it's a Sunday, otherwise this might be a fun flamewar. Since it's a slow day, I'll say that this one gets less than 200 posts.

Don't know what union this is (didn't read the article), but you know what, my union does what's in the best interest for everyone, in fact they urge us to be active in our communities, etc.

Despite its increased preoccupation with "national security" cases, the Justice Department still had time to be concerned about two partially nude statues in the Great Hall of the Agency's headquarters.

Thank God they still have their priorities right!

Pornography seems to be the only beneficiary of the September 11 attacks. After a relative hiatus during the Clinton Administration, the industry was ready for the onslaught they knew the Bush Republican Administration was planning to unleash on them in September 2001. The indictments are yet to materialize.

This has all been a conspiracy between Usama and the porn industry?

I hope everyone notices the ? at the end of this headline and the irony implied thereby.

Ugh. I swear any site that uses Slashcode should be taken out back and shot. And that includes Slashdot.

That's not slashcode, it's php-puke.

I don't think it's so much the labor unions as it is the Ashcroft obsession with covering statues, busting legalized marijuana clubs in CA, and trying to overturn right to die laws in Oregon (that were passed TWICE by voters). Also, what happened to the Anthrax investigation? I guess Ashcroft was getting a little too close to finding out that his friends in the Army of God were doing it and then suddenly had to find something else to pick on like State's Rights.

How about less than 20?

"Critics, including Senator Edward Kennedy, Democrat of Massachusetts, say that these changes jeopardize non-citizens' rights. "These are drastic changes being proposed," said Senator Kennedy. "We need to review them carefully. I am seriously concerned about the attempt to further reduce an immigrant's right to seek review of his or her case," the Senator added."

Translation: we need more people incapable of reading English in the US so that Gore can win in 2004.

Alexandra: A union NEVER acts in the best interests of everyone. It's members are not the priority of it's leaders. Getting themselves an undeserved, free riding pay cheque is.

union work = mediocre work for a premium price

a buddy of mine makes $14/hr normally, but when he does government contracts, they're somehow required to pay him "certified" (union) rates, and he pulls in $40/hr. does that make any sense to anyone? it's the same work. hugely inflated price. kind of exemplifies the beaurocracy that is the government.

What's really weird is making 2.50 an hour as a junior enlisted, and leaving the service and coming back to work as a contracter making 30/hour is still saving the DoD money. Weird huh?

Continuing on Hiro_Protagonist and Downcaste's comments on union pay...

Isn't it nice how the best unionized worker in a particular role, or group of roles, is paid exactly the same as the worst one as long as they've been doing the job for the same length of time?

I'm sure that really encourages most workers to work hard and do their best.

I wouldn't really classify soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen as being in a union, exactly. because if they refuse to work, they get thrown in the brig!

There won't be a flamewar because everyone noticed that this was on yellowtimes.org. We like the occasional newsmax and bartcop trash, but yellowtimes is below us. Goatse has more journalism integrity then those guys.

Uhh... Millay, how can immigrants help Gore win an election when only citizens can vote? Did you not take civics in high school or what man?

Good to see the prez busting up organized crime.

If Bush wanted to bust up organized crime he fire his whole cabinet and then he'd take a voluntary retirement himself. Bush and his crew are nothing but mountebanks and scoundrels just like that goodfornothing Clinton.
