Thank you, unimatrixzero, for a link with current news. It was different when there were no reports of fatalities.

I, my mom, my sister, as well as my aunt, thank you. And give condolences to the families of this terrible accident.

Ricky is Rick's son. John was his brother, whose two daughters were in the crash. The Hendrick family has lost 4 members today. Kyle Busch wasn't on the plane.

Ricky was only 24 years old. Hendrick also lost their VP/GM and several people connected to them. very tragic.

What you're not seeing, Twitch OSX , is all the people trolling. That's why I am posting that.

Rick Hendrick is the founder/owner of HMS. Ricky Hendrick is his son (Rick Jr)

Baconpatroller:

Ricky Handrick was Rick's son, he was a former driver in the Busch Series (basically minor league level of car racing) until he had to retire a couple of years back.

Who's Randy Dorton? I think I've heard that name, but I don't know who he is.

2004-10-24 05:55:52 PM
CFIT's a nasty thing, one of the biggest killers in aviation. Interested to find out how it happened, if they were on climbout or just disregarded the MSA.

2004-10-24 05:56:23 PM
Randy Dorton is the head engine builder.

2004-10-24 05:56:41 PM
condolences to all involved. i'm not a nascar fan, but a tragedy is a tragedy, regardless of who is involved, and regardless of whether or not it affects me directly

2004-10-24 05:57:20 PM
Randy Dorton is the director of the engine program at Hendrick Motorsports

Newsbreak says no Hendrick drivers on board.

I loathe nascar, but I don't need to hear about more deathes today. I hope everyone is okay.

/Bad God, Bad. I said I didn't want to watch effing NASCAR, I did NOT say, "Kill every last man woman and child!" You are such a vengful bastard!!

2004-10-24 06:01:15 PM
What a shame. This NASCAR fool prays for the dead and their families.

2004-10-24 06:01:42 PM
As much as I dispise NASCAR...
this is sad.
It makes me even sadder that people are freely joking about death.

"wow, why cant nascar folks fly in helicopters or airplanes, they prolly have the highest mortality rate among airplane passengers. davey allison, alan kulwicki(sp) I am sure there are more those are the only two off the top of my head......"

I know it may seem that way. But heck, they do a significant amount of travelling.

2004-10-24 06:04:51 PM
You can send condolences to Hendrick Motorsports at www.nascar.com. Be nice, they've had one of the worst up-down days I've ever read about. Jimmie Johnson wins then utter complete tragedy. Life can be freakin' cruel.

2004-10-24 06:02:27 PM rhiannon

yeah i wasnt trying to be funny, more just observant in the light you shed, i can see the point. I just know sadly, that drivers die on and off the track more so than most of us common folks.

maybe its them in the news, maybe its the fact they travel so much, but either way it does appear that though experts in their field some have difficulties travelling through regular channels.

just an observation
not trolling
thats all
my condolences to the hendrick family for losing at least 4 children and some close family employees/friends

2004-10-24 06:06:29 PM
Very unfortunate, sad, & untimely.

My sympathies rest with the families of the deceased.

I'm having difficulty finding words...so I'll keep it simple...This is a sad day

Several high-placed sources inside NASCAR confirm these passengers on the plane: Dick Tracey, pilot, Liz Morrison, pilot, Joe Jackson, Jeff Turner, the VP and General Manager of Hendrick Motorsports, Randy Dorton and his two daughters, Scott Latham. Tony Stewarts helicopter pilot (who was not piloting the plane), John Hendrick (Rick Hendricks brother), Ricky Hendrick.

Maybe they should have gotten their very own Airplane Pilot instead of a helicopter pilot.

I like how all of these early reports list him only as "Tony Stewarts Helicopter Pilot", I can almost see it on his tombstone. Seems like nothing more than blatant name dropping to only slightly inflate an already tragic story.

Fark the press.

2004-10-24 06:11:31 PM
I am in Southwest VA and all the local news stations have stayed with the story for like half an hour now. You would think the president was asassinated or something. Nearly every death story that gets posted on Fark gets jokes made, Darwin references, etc... Why would a Nascar story be any different?

2004-10-24 06:13:42 PM
Eeek -- seems you will busy with the ban button today.

It puzzles me that a tragic event happens in sports and the people who hate that sport have to prove their superiority in judgment by writing the foulest things imaginable. Baseball, football, racing, you name it. There's always the jerks who state how much they don't care in threads where obviously fans do care. To berate tragedy in a sport one doesn't like is not only pointless but asinine, the kind of thing schoolyard bullies do to nerds for no reason other than trying to be alpha dog. Heartlessness and spite are not good character traits, and it may be best if some posters keep their flaws to themselves.

--- had to vent, get 'em Eeek ---

2004-10-24 06:14:03 PM
Submitter, nothing funny about a plane crash, grow-up.

2004-10-24 06:14:06 PM
If you don't joke about death then I recommend you look at it unobjectivly.

The current US death rate, 8.34 deaths/1,000 population means that by midyear about 2,451,960 died this year out of the est~294,000,000 people living in the US alone.

Death is every day, death is everywhere. If I were to somehow find the statistics for how many people die in the world every day + how many animals die every day you would probably be astounded.

It sucks when it is close, my Uncle just died. Even so, it's part of the cycle, we are part of the cycle, accept mortality and let it not hinder your life.

2004-10-24 06:14:52 PM
This sucks.

2004-10-24 06:15:05 PM
Some pretty crass comments posted considering a man lost his son, his daughter, and many others close to him.

I know this is FARK but have a heart people.

Egad, could a mod assist me by closing that tag?

Eeek I rarely venture down to the main board. If this is making you work overtime to clean up mess, I can only imagine how hard you work on some of the political threads.

I believe Scott Latham is Tony Stewarts helicopter pilot. As in "Scott Latham, Tony Stewart's helicopter pilot," etc...

2004-10-24 06:16:21 PM
Isn't this sort of death traditionally reserved for rock stars? Janis, Jimmy Hendrix, Mama Cass, Elvis...we miss ye.

2004-10-24 06:16:48 PM
Dick Tracy?

2004-10-24 06:16:57 PM
I stopped watching when Dale SR. died.Still keep up from the wings though. This is a potentially deadly sport evidently on and off the track. My sympathies to the family.

2004-10-24 06:17:03 PM
man this is crazy, the track is in my backyard and the crash site is about 11 miles down the road..trippin

I'm confused. Did I misread? Your saying they shouldn't have had a helicopter pilot piloting the plane? But doesn't the article you posted say he wasn't piloting the plane?
Maybe I read it wrong. Clarification...please (o:

Horrible news....prayers to all the families.

I bet Pruneface sabotaged the plane.

mathmatix: I didn't consider your post a troll at all, you were just being observant

maorhopper-Unless things have changed one must be liscensed by the FAA to fly a plane before one can even attempt a helicopter.
