"so they manipulate the media to propagandize the American people and manufacture consent for the American govt to wage war, assassinate, manipulate, exploit, etc, all in the interests of wiping out communism."

LMAO That's got to be a joke, right?

Nothing quite so funny as a 78 year old man suffering fractures
/sarcasm
//grandfather currently enjoying the NHS's finest treatment (a couple of leeches a day and a splint whittled from pine by workhouse children)

I'm as happy as happy can be,
To hear Castro has busted his knee.
But I'm sorry as heck
That it was not his neck,
So that twelve million slaves could be free.

Well, the main thing is that all the corporations and the rich people know that socialism means that they lose their money and power and social status, so they manipulate the media to propagandize the American people and manufacture consent for the American govt to wage war, assassinate, manipulate, exploit, etc, all in the interests of wiping out communism.

Yes. We're all just a bunch of sheep. It really is easier if you believe that, isn't it?

ChuckRoddy Isn't Canada one of our fifty-one states

That'd be the UK, and the 52nd is Australia. Canada isn't in Iraq, and it'd be illegal for a US state to refuse to go to war when the Federal Government says it's at war.

\Sorry I forgot about Poland

well he's lucky they have the best doctors in the world to fix his cranky ass.
/it's strangely true,look it up.

That was more amusing than I thought it would be -- great way to waste 6.32 minutes.

Thank you.

Spot on. Also free education to degree level, effective health service despite years of sanctions, relative freedom for both sexes and all levels of society (unless you upset the regime - but that's true in so many places...)

No paradise, but maybe a better way of doing things than our new bestest friends in Saudi Arabia.

What they're not showing you is the video where he sidesteps the ottoman and doesn't trip. Sometimes they show THAT clip in the opening credits instead of this one.

Oh, wait, this is Castro, not Dick Van Dyke. My bad.

Communism is a threat to Capitalism

I thought Communism didn't work? Or is it that Castro makes a convenient bogeyman for the GOP?

/remembers the elian debacle, man that was funny

2004-10-22 11:34:24 AM
I heard that not only did Castro have no anesthesia during surgery, but that he was also conducting important governemnt work while his knee was getting repaired. He was reportedly talking on his cellphone and conducting "very important" business the entire time.

I understand that they are desperately trying to promote a "tough guy" image after Castro's little fall, but they need to make it at least slightly plasuible

That is the FUNNIEST thing I have ever seen here on Fark in all of my 2 months of being here....

Do the Castro!!!!

Is it technically a "trip" when you don't realize a step is there and your foot goes down further than you were expecting and it jars you and throws you off balance and you sprawl forward? Because that's what it looks like happened. To me, a "trip" is when your foot catches on something.

Cuba is a nice place. apart from the shiatty dictator things happening its can't be that bad. just imagine no student loans. free health. and living in the tropics. (take the hurricanes out of your mind for a moment)

2004-10-22 11:40:17 AM
How long after Castro finally kicks the bucket that Cuba becomes just another island in the Florida Keys?

2004-10-22 11:42:16 AM
"Cuba is a nice place. apart from the shiatty dictator things happening its can't be that bad. just imagine no student loans. free health. and living in the tropics. (take the hurricanes out of your mind for a moment)"

eeeehhh? and when you open your mouth to complain about -anything- you get the business end of a 220-volt cattle prod stuck in your ass.

Why do you think people are tying to leave? Moron.

Communism is a threat to Capitalism, and Florida is where all the Cuban Capitalists went. America is a capitalist state and is therefore intent of preventing Cuba from becoming an example for others to follow. Hence the trade embargoes.

Thank goodness China isn't a communist country, or you'd never be able to do massive amounts of trade with them, would you?

(double-standards rule)

2004-10-22 11:45:43 AM
Think about it for a second. America, get villified for expressing different opions just like in cuba. but if you get sick in cuba you just go to the doctor and get well for free. where as in america if you arn't earning enough you chose between going to the doctor or eating.

Every one watch the movie the corporation. god i hate capitalism

2004-10-22 11:47:10 AM
Is it just me, or would you not want to immediately grab a 78 year old who just had a nasty tumble by the arm and start vigorously yanking them upright?

I think that guy in the video is the real CIA operative. Right after the crowd closes around he is probably shaking Castro "Are you all right, Amigo? Tell Me!!"

2004-10-22 11:47:18 AM
Does Cuba use 220?

2004-10-22 11:48:53 AM
220, 221, whatever it takes

2004-10-22 11:49:39 AM
One thing that's cool about Cuba is their illiteracy rate...it's lower than America's.

2004-10-22 11:50:41 AM
Haha, that's funny. Take a poke at an old lion, who still has more balls than all the chickenhawk war-mongers in this sorry administration put together. You tried to kill him, and failed. You invaded Cuba and got your asses kicked. You drafted plans to murder American citizens in 1962 and blame it on the Cubans, so that we could declare war on them and take it. You wanted your Copacabana back, your mecca for wealthy Americans. It galled you that a communist has given his people a better standard of living than they would have had as an American colony.
And now you laugh when an old man stumbles.

Take a bow.

Ahhh but the repression of the cuban people and their ruthless slaughter you say!! How many WARS has Cuba started? How many has the US started or entered? How many CIVILIAN casualties have been caused in said WARS that America has been in? How much COLLATERAL damage has been caused by US foreign policy in the last 50-odd years?

What's next for the rove and the merry bunch of neocons? An Al-Qaeda connection to Castro? Ooooh, watch out for thems Kuuu-BAN terists.

2004-10-22 12:02:31 PM
would've been more poetic if he fell flat on his face and then choked on his cigar. funnier too.

If you commies who insist on bad mouthing the US of A hate it here so much, why don't you move to farking Cuba and see exactly how "great" it is!

Ant -

"Yes. We're all just a bunch of sheep. It really is easier if you believe that, isn't it?"
-----------------------------------------------

Well, miraculously, there are people who are STILL voting for Bush, so maybe the statement isn't that far off. Shiat, I just got out of a thread where a bunch of 'grown-ups' were whining through their computers about Cheney getting a flu shot. If the story never broke that there is a shortage, I'm sure the general public would have no idea because they normally didn't get them. But, throw some news coverage at the 'problem' and watch the sheeple stand in long lines for a needle.

"Mr. Burns, I think we can trust the president of Cuba" -Homer

Castro: Can I see that trillion dollar bill?
Mr. Burns: Yes, but you have to give it back.
(Castro takes the bill)
Mr. Burns: Can I have the trillion dollar bill back?
Castro (who puts it in his pocket): What trillion dollar bill?

Fidel Castro: Americans are not that bad. They even named a street after me.
(Someone whispers something in Castro's ear)
Fidel Castro: It's full of what?

"There's soda on the plane!!" Smithers yelling to Homer trying to feed the trillion dollar bill into a soda vending machine.

Hostess in Cuba : Purpose of visit?
(She gives a paper to Homer that says:
1- Business/Pleasure
2- Ciggars
3- Assassinate Castro

Cuban soldiers were sent to fight in very bloody wars in Africa. But I'm sure you already knew that.

Has it ever occurred to you that maybe they have a reason to vote that way? Just because someone disagrees with you does not make them sheep.

I LOVE the US of A, and HATE it's policies. They are mutually exclusive of each other to me.

I've been to Cuba, my government hasn't engaged in an embargo for the last 50+ years... cause those DO NOT WORK. I can't even believe there are people who think that it is working, do they wake up every morning and say to themselves "today is the day!"

You DO know that Castro craps his pants....right??

I hope that ass master gets gang green and dies slowly

Ummmm, you even quoted my questions and yet failed to answer it? Gee, lemme take a wild guess - you're voting for Dubya?

and just for reference, those Cuban soldiers were mostly there to help setup Humanitarian assistance... the benefits which still exists today. Havana has also helped set up medical schools in Gambia and Equatorial Guinea, and Cuban professors teach in medical schools in several countries, including Ethiopia, Uganda and South Africa.

Cuba has diplomatic ties with 53 African nations and provides assistance to 51. Although the greatest emphasis is put on health and education, cooperation also includes the areas of sports, construction, agriculture and urban planning.

DAMN those CUBANS... they try to help countries, even when they don't have OIL. Sick Bastardardos!

Fidel : You can't shoot fearless leader!
Tony : Whoever said you was one?
Fidel : Wait a minute. If you let me go, I'll fix this up.
Tony : Sure, Fidel. Maybe you can hand out to yourself one of those first class tickets to resurrection.
Fidel : Farking punk. Son of a biatch!
Tony : So long Fidel. Have a good trip.
Fidel : Fark you!
