PARKED VAN IS NOT SAFE PLACE FOR SLEEPING CHILD No fark? Alas Darwin didn't do his job and get rid of the grandmother.

/poor kid, stupid mom, beyond stupid grandmother

Pay a babysitter you cheap, stupid woman.

2004-10-21 11:36:57 AM
Makes you wonder how in hell she had a child survive long enough to give her grandchildren.

/Stupid people never seem to have fertility problems... discuss

2004-10-21 11:38:27 AM
Why in the...what kind of grandmother leaves their grandchild in the car while the car is parked in the goddamn driveway? Jesus, do people lose all their sense when they have children? How can this woman justify continuing to leave her little one with someone who's so obviously an idiot?

2004-10-21 12:09:51 PM
My god, that grandmother needs to be reported to the Child Protection folks. If the kid is old enough to remember being left alone, outside, screaming she's old enough to be woken up to be taken into the house.

I'd beat my mother if she did that to my kid.

2004-10-21 12:24:44 PM
Sounds like my mom. And in a few months it will be my youngest sister. She'll leave her new baby with mom, who's quite capable of doing this and other things, just to get away from having to take care of the baby. And mom will only salivate over the prospect of being able to have her way with at least one daughter's kid, without supervision.

It's a travesty writing itself.

Dear Abby,

I usually don't ask for advice from a dead woman but I slept in my Vans last night. Should I, like, totally freak?

I would honestly love to throw a very sharp rock at both of these women.

i'd like to beat grandma with her oxygen tank as well.

Dear Abby,

Welcome to FARK where your pearls of superfluous wisdom will be scrutinized by the scholars of the internet whom, with thier five-minute attention spans, will relegate you to obscurity or grandeur with their opinions before moving on.

I, of course, am one of them.

My first opinion is that syndication pre-dating FARK by a factor of ten fairly well superceeds anything opinions voiced here.

My other opinion that people seeking psychoanalysis from a newspaper columnist would be better served consulting Lucy.

[image from blacksword.currantbun.com too old to be available]

After all, she preceeds both 'Dear Abby' and 'Ann Landers' in syndication, and surpasses both in good-'ol-fashion common sense.

My mom leaves me in a parked car alone all the time. Of course, I`m 17, so I guess it`s not quite the same.

DEAR ABBY: There's a kid at school named Michael. I want to be friends with him, but I don't know what to do. Like me, he lost his dad. There is only one difference -- Michael can still see his dad. I have to wait until I'm dead to see mine. What should I do? I'd really like to be friends.

How does one lose their Dad but still be able to see him? Does this kid see ghosts?

Mother
Tell my baby not to walk yr way
Tell my baby not to hear my words
What they mean What they say
Mother

Can you keep my baby in the car for life
Can you hide it from the waiting world
Oh mother

Father
Yr mother in law gonna take our baby out tonight
Gonna show her a hot car
Oh father

Not about to see your light
But if you wanna find hell with me
I can show you what it's like
Till you're slowly roasting in your own filth

Not about to see your light
And if you wanna find hell with me
I can show you what it's [drums]

Mother
Tell my baby not to hold my hand
Tell my baby to start liking the kiddie seat
Oh mother

Not about to see your light
And if you wanna find hell with me
I can show you what it's like
Till you're broiling in Grandma's car

Uuuuunnnhhhhh!!!!!

Dear Abby,
I keep stabbing myself in the eye with a pen. Everyone says it's wrong but I'll continue to do it until an expert tells me why I should stop. I've lost sight in my left eye and am now having trouble properly jabbing myself in the right eye. Please help.

In Atlanta, the amount of bad parents were (was?) so bad we started betting pools whenever the weather got hot. Dogs, kids, etc. The grand prize winner (and bell curve destroyer) was a project-dwelling babymaker who left her infant child playing with a giant roach in her crib. Gulpinanation followed by blue-green baby ensued. It's OK, though, she had more later...

2004-10-21 06:47:37 PM
Lets see....

My mom baby-sits for my 3-year-old, "Jessica," while I am at work.

and....

last year when she left Jessica sleeping in the van, got distracted with something in the house, and didn't realize my daughter had awakened and been screaming for some time. For weeks, Jessica talked about being left outside alone.

I call shenanigans. The kid was 2 then.

Juggleboy,

If she continually ignores you while you scream in your carseat it is.

Why are stupid people allowed to reproduce?

2004-10-21 06:52:18 PM
If something happens once, shame on the perpetrator. If it happens twice -- shame on the "victim."

So true. Molest me once, shame on you. Molest me twice, shame on me.

2004-10-21 06:52:27 PM
Assuming it's not hot out whats the difference where the child sleeps. Take them out of the seat and they wake up. They need sleep. Now, that being said you should be able to hear them.

Is it time for mandatory occupancy sensors in all vehicles that alert authorities to this type of negligence?

You gotta take a test and get a license to drive. Any jackass can have a kid.

Does this hold for molestation victims?

Dear Abby, shut your face.

I have a certain amount of sympathy with the grandmother, not a lot, but some. Quite often my 1 year old falls asleep in the car, and I let her sleep on in the parked car, while I potter about in the front garden.

I have been known to nip inside to quickly put the kettle on while she is catching some Zzzzs, too.

I'm evil. I know.

Men pay child support (or not) for??? Oh for her tequila shooters. Only Patron though none of that nasty Jose Queervo.

2004-10-21 07:01:41 PM
The real unspoken problem here is that the Mom babysitting is free. She wants Dear Abby to solve her problem so she can keep getting child care for nothing. That is a person that seriously lives in a fantasy world.

That kid is so farked.

We'll in defence of... well me. My wife and I used to and still do actually leave our kid in the car in his car seat asleep all the time. I know sounds bad but let me clarify, we are typically standing somewhere near the car, windows are down, and it never happens when it's hot enough to be an issue. If you've had a kid, you know about letting them get sleep when they can. So my only issue is the going in the house and leaving the kid unattended outside part. Not entirely clear in the article if the Grandma is forgetting the kid is in the car or if she is doing what we are doing and letting the kid sleep so the kid don't freak later. Duhno.

T.

2004-10-21 07:02:46 PM
You have to wonder what else the grandmother has done since this doesn't seem like a case of "oh I'll just do yardwork while she sleeps" but more a case of she forgot the child was out there at least once if not several times.

Oh the phone is ringing just sit nicely in the bath until get back....oh you're playing with that container of bleach, just don't open the lid while I answer the door...

I enjoy that fact that I can leave my child at a grandparents house. But if I EVER heard that they pulled a boneheaded move like this I would tear a strip a mile wide off of them and she would never be left unsupervised with that grandparent again.

Roche:
Why call shenanigans? The kid could easily be making that much sense by age 2.

Quite often I read about your kind in the newspaper. Hopefully they'll be able to use this thread as evidence at your trial.

Yeah, my parents used to do this, too. No big deal, since I grew up in the Great White North AND the doors were always open. I would be concerned if these people live in Texas, though.

I remember some broad in the D a few years back let her 10 month old baby and 3 year old roast like chicken at Kenny Rogers in the 90 degree heat with the windows rolled up for 3 1/2 while she got herself a fly new up-do, a massage and acrylic nails at the salon. To her credit, she did take time out of her exhausting trip to the salon to go out and get herself a soda and a bag of chips although she didn't check on the kids.

I assume you are then a catholic republican?
