Red Sox earned it. Yankees need to go back to the drawing board.
This year's Evil Empire was more like the Empire circa Jedi. They need to be Empire circa Empire. And, uh, Darth Steinbrenner needs to get his head checked.

/Spoken like a true denizen of Dirty Jersey
//not even supposed to be here today
///be prepared for another drought starting soon, Sox fans

man...this might be infinite before 12:35
2004-10-21 12:27:43 AM
This is the year!

Great 4 games there, it's good to see the Sox triumph over a competent Yankees team for the first time in a century.

4 more wins needed!
2004-10-21 12:27:54 AM
OK, so I was wrong, one more week until the guut-wrenching heartbreak ensues.
2004-10-21 12:27:55 AM
I think my favorite part of this particular evening of America's pastime is the fact that the game was essentially over by the second inning. That meant that I got to watch two hours (since I had to take a time out to watch Smallville) of the looks on the faces and in the eyes of the ignorant Yankee fans and the arrogant Yankee players. It was absolutely beautiful. The disbelief, the shock, the confusion. Maybe my favorite few hours of television in a long, long time.

So was that noise the sound of the ball hitting the fair pole, or that of the hearts of Yankee fans shattering? Either way, screw 'em. Everybody who has worn pinstripes since, say, 1975 (other than Aaron Boone, because he's still a Red at heart, I don't care about last year) could die in a plane crash, and I don't think I'd blink.

Also, McCarver still sucks donkeynuts.

First, congratulations to the Sox.

2nd, Alfonso Soriano is awaiting your thanks for having home field advantage in the Series (my first Rangers' plug this thread.

3rd GO SOX!!! SOX in '04 (Rangers in '05)

I for one am glad that I wont have to see A-Fraud and his purple lips for the rest of the year! Go Sox! and Go Astros!

If the 'stros make the WS, what else will the World Series have in common with the United States?

Mass-uh-chew-sets vs. Don't mess with Texas

2004-10-21 12:28:17 AM
Baseball haters -- you can say you heard all about it all over the Internet and radio and try to explain to your grandchildren how you were such an elitist jerk you missed the greatest accomplishment in team sport history.

This trumps '80 USA hockey team.

I don't like the BoSox, but I cannot take the Yankees.

To do what Boston did, in ANY sport, is phenominal. So hate baseball, but when Billy or Jenny ask where you were, you'd better have an answer.
2004-10-21 12:28:25 AM
not only did we win game 7 after coming back from 3-0..
we beat them like rented mules
2004-10-21 12:28:26 AM
Greatest. Choke. Ever.

Seriously though, this is going to be a great World Series, whomever gets through from the NL. But I'm rooting for the Cards. If they get through, I don't even care who wins the whole thing, it's all good either way.

Go Cards!
2004-10-21 12:28:32 AM
Kerry's personal friend and favorite player, Manny Ortiz, had a great series.
2004-10-21 12:28:50 AM
I had a whole rant typed out questioning the absolutely moronic "most boring sport" headline, but y'know what? A comment that ignorant doesn't even deserve it. (I'm just going to pretend it was sarcasm.), who's YOUR daddy?
2004-10-21 12:29:02 AM
Yeah soccer is the most boring, run run run run run run run run run run run run run shoot--miss run run run run run run run run run run run run run run run shoot---sccccoooore [other team] run run run run run run run run run run run run run run run run run run run run run run run run run run shoot--miss run run run run run run run run run run run run run run run run run run run shoot---sccccoooore

Yeah, Balki, you're right, they haven't won the World Series yet. But they are the first baseball team in the history of the game to come back from a 3-0 series deficit and win, AND they did it against the Yankees. So people should be farking happy.
2004-10-21 12:29:41 AM
I liked the Nike commercial... Hand it to Nike to have something ready if they won... link to video (
2004-10-21 12:29:51 AM
Second most boring.. you forgot cricket. At least most MLB games finish the same day they start...I hope. AS for soccer slaggers, lets see some of your ball scratching fat guys run for 90 minutes straight!
2004-10-21 12:30:08 AM
barfooz, you realize that Zimmer managed the Sox, right?

BTW, to the submitter - that headline sucked; you're fired as well.
2004-10-21 12:30:26 AM
Jeez, any Yankee fans out there? Tough, tough loss. Very disappointed. I go to school in Boston, making it even harder. Riots outside my window, crazy Red Sox fans...people are going to die in Boston tonight.

Well, at least the stadium got to chant "Who's your daddy?" after the most ridiculous move by Francona ever.
2004-10-21 12:30:32 AM
brb... gonna go riot...
2004-10-21 12:30:39 AM
It'll be spooky to have the World Series so closely mirror the Presidential election. You know, TX vs. MA.
2004-10-21 12:30:40 AM
xXBalloonKnotXx-thanks for an intelligent cordial comment, I officially exclude you from being a hated yankee fan.

Most boring game ever? Yeah... to morans!

I was raised in AZ, and the 2001 WS was the best thing I'd ever seen, and the best series ever, until this one.

2004-10-21 12:31:31 AM
not only did we win game 7 after coming back from 3-0..
we beat them like rented mules

That's funny, I didn't see you on the field anywhere.
For the more obnoxious Yankees haters in this thread:

World Series championships

Yankees 26
Red Sox 5 (if you count the Puritans)

So suck it, asshats.
2004-10-21 12:31:35 AM
Well, here's my headline . .. TFers saw it. It might be bad, but at least it's better than that pos headline. . .

Tim McCarver to Johnny Damon: "Hey, big boy ...". Jeter walks away dejected. Fellatio ensues. See ya at the World Series.
2004-10-21 12:31:46 AM
Mets did not come back 3-0.

So, what are the official odds that Cashman gets the boot?
2004-10-21 12:32:15 AM

Believe all you want. Derek Farkin' Lowe is NOT going to win a Game 7 ALCS against the Yankees.

From an earlier thread -- Famous last words?

ANNOUNCER #1: And the Yankees take the field!

ANNOUNCER #2: What is with the Yankees? They look like they're having trouble running, they can't move!

ANNOUNCER #1: It's their uniforms, they're too tight, they've shrunk! They're running like penguins! Forget this game!
2004-10-21 12:32:45 AM
NOW maybe those OBNOXIOUS Yankees fans will SHUT THE FARK UP!!! On second thought, now we'll hear them cry & whine!!!

2004-10-21 12:33:42 AM
Wooo hooo!

Go Sox!!

Yankees fans looked stunned; and Who's your Daddy now biatches?!
2004-10-21 12:33:48 AM
Well. I'm back from the bar, and I have terms to settle.

In 2004, the Boston Red Sox were the better team over the New York Yankees. Congratulations to Boston and all of Red Sox Nation, wherever they may be. The Red Sox, in the end, just had more heart than the Yankees did. It's like Bill Simmons wrote after one of the games, "The Red Sox won't quit, and the Yankees just keep waiting for the magic to happen." That's paraphrased, but I think it most accurately describes the series. Congratulations again, both for the greatest comeback in sports history and therefore causing the worst collapse as well.

That said, I'd say the Astros are a lock the league's gonna pass up Clemens and The Curse v. the Red Sox in Fenway, Game 7, World Series. That's what I'm pulling for, anyway. I'm a sucker for good drama, after all.

Congratulations, Red Sox Nation...The Curse may not yet be lifted, but best of luck in finally grabbing that gold ring.
