Sweet Jesus I am in pain today.
Could someone fly to boston today w/ a bottle of oxygen, a couple Enya CDs, and lightly massage my temples while I inhale O2.
I really think I'm still a little drunk. This can't be good for my health.
2004-10-21 10:13:40 AM
//laughing at silverpig's channeling of Detroit baseball frustration into anti-Sox propaganda. You have no say. Where's your team today?? Oh yeah, at home. Or golfing. Or wringing their hands, wishing they were World Series bound...
2004-10-21 10:14:02 AM

Have you even been paying attention to Pedro's career? I mean, he's a good pitcher, but he's not great."

no, he's not great, and I think he has an attitude problem, but he'd be an addition that would move the Yankee pitching staff from maybe a 6/10 to 7/10. We definately need more.

How much longer does Manny have on his contract?
2004-10-21 10:15:07 AM
""Football: Penalties after every other play. OMG and then they have timeouts, 2 minute warning (who gives a crap), nobody goes for it on the 4th down! Teams that rarely pass. Halftime SNOORREEE. This game is only interesting if drunk or being gambled on. Remove the point spread and football is nothing.

You forgot how each play lasts about 4 seconds then you wait 35 seconds for the next play. It is so much like baseball it is sick in that respect.

Let's see...

Track and field (running, jumping, throwing, etc...)
Animal Racing (dogs, horses, pigs, camels, etc...)
Rock Climbing
submitter's sex life

and the list goes on...

Yep, baseball is the most boring sport ever invented.

hey we tried to GIVE Manny to you guys. Now he loves boston, and we love him.
2004-10-21 10:22:28 AM
Screw grace, this is the biggest win for the redsox in 20 years. they deserve to celebrate all they want!! And what sports team has ever truly won with grace? Everyone celebrates!

Exactly. Its never 'just a game' when you win.
2004-10-21 10:22:33 AM
"Pedro has better numbers lifetime than Sandy Koufax. Not great my ass."

He likes to choke in big games though. We'll get him though. Say what you will about Big Stein, but I have a feeling he may be going with the, if you can't beat em', buy em' strategy, And for what its worth, Boston has a hell of a team this year.

/Go St. Louis

"hey we tried to GIVE Manny to you guys. Now he loves boston, and we love him."

He's from Washington Heights, he's a New Yorker, he'll be back.
2004-10-21 10:26:14 AM
I think the NYPD should put out an APB on A-Fraud and Jeter. They've been missing the last 4 days.

Way to choke Yankees! Couldn't happen to a better group of people.
2004-10-21 10:29:22 AM
I'm sure somebody mentioned this, but the submitter's a little biatch. Either that, or the person who greelit it changed the headline. Either way, somebody's a little biatch.

Smooky? Smookums? Smook-dawg? Smookerrific?

2004-10-21 10:38:30 AM
As a hardcore Yankee fan allow me to tip my hat to you Boston. Mariano is no longer what h was and you were able to take advantage of that, however the world series is not over yet.

Oh and do Sox fans consider this season a success if they lose the series?
2004-10-21 10:39:10 AM
Yeah, Pedro's not great at all.

The fact that you put soccer in your list of sports whose most exciting games are more boring than an average baseball game proves to everyone that you are an utter fool.

Seriously, that's just plain idiocy.

The idiocy is your decision to drink heavily before posting that statement. If you read the rest of this thread, you'll see that I'm hardly alone in my opinion that soccer is a cure for insomnia. While I understand many enjoy the sport, saying that it is more exciting than baseball is plain idiocy.

"Halfback passes to the center. Back to the wing. Back to the center. Center holds it. Holds it. [rolls eyes] Holds it..."

Of course, because the Sox went the distance. Boston takes nothing for granted, nothing.
2004-10-21 10:42:50 AM
More of how much PEDRO sucks:

During Pedro's 4 year stay with the Expos, he racked up a 55-33 record, including a 17-8 record in his last year there when he won the Cy Young Award. Pedro also had a 1.90 ERA during his Cy Young year of 1997 with the Expos. Despite Pedro's brilliance with the Expos, the Expos didn't have the money to sign Martinez, and on November 18, 1997, Pedro was traded for right handed farm pitchers Carl Pavano and Tony Armas Jr. In 1998, Martinez's first season with the Sox, Pedro finished 2nd in the AL Cy Young

/To say that Pedro Martinez is not great is the STUPIDEST statement you can make.
2004-10-21 10:44:05 AM
well you may be right, but you could have had him this year :-P

Yankee fan here.

Pulling for the Red Sox in the World Series. Really exciting games. Congrats to the Sox.
2004-10-21 10:46:32 AM
The Yankee fan that I live with said that, in his mind, last night was his World Series.

Those of you STILL hating on the Red Sox... for crying out loud, let us have our moment of glory. As it has been said, Boston came back from a 3 game deficit and had 4 rather convincing wins against the "world champion" Yankees. Bottom line, the Yankees CHOKED. For some of you, that must be hard to come to terms with. I know we still need to win the World Series, but I mean really...

/yeah, I know I ended a sentence with a preposition. who the fark cares???/

Go Red Sox!!!
2004-10-21 10:47:37 AM

You'd be right. Thanks anyways, and I'm a BDD faithful =D

Looking forward to fan pictures. And playing homemade Where's Waldo.

2004-10-21 10:55:16 AM
As a Cubs fan, I want to express my solidarity with Red Sox Nation. I will expect the same support from you guys when it's our turn, some century.

GO SOX!!!!!

I don't know, baloney_titz is a pretty good name as well.

And Sox in 7, no matter who they're facing.

/Still drunk from last night.

I hope The Red Sox win the W.S. So Peter Gammons and "The Sports Guy" will shut the fark up.

"By the Way- impressive rioting last night. We here in Detroit could never destroy our city like the morons in Beantown could last night. Classy."

Silverpig, people in Detroit would most certainly do the same thing, like most people in any city would. To think they wouldn't is a little naive. It's human nature...the (regrettable) mob mentality.

If the Tigers make it to the world series (which I hope they do someday soon), we'll see if you prove me wrong.
2004-10-21 11:11:17 AM
the sad thing about this is an undeniably good coach in Joe Torre is now going to be remembered as the guy who choked it up and broke the curse...

its a damn shame too.
2004-10-21 11:11:36 AM
That's one of the problems... will people view this as the Sox coming back from behind with true talent, or simply a massive choke by the Yankees?

Being a Sox fan that isn't from Boston, I can easily share that I can't shake the feeling that at least half of their comeback was in reality just an unbelievable failure by the Yankees.

You've got to admit... the Yankees did a LOT of stupid things in Game 7. And who DOESN'T hit game-winning/altering home runs these days (re: Ortiz, Damon, etc)? Kent did it for Houston in Game 5, Edmonds for the Cards in Game 6. Beltran has done it in half the games this postseason. It's just a part of modern baseball... any member of the top half of a playoff lineup can do it with ease if the bullpen leaves one hangin'.

Anyway, it just feels slightly tainted to me. Coming back from a 3-0 deficit feels more like a choke by one team than the win-lose-win scenario going on in the NLCS, which feels like a true battle of near-equal teams.

But even in the NLCS, I think Houston has the edge with a fresh Clemens. To me it seems the only REAL reason the Cards are still in this is Pujols, while Houston has had stellar performances from Beltran, Berkman, Clemens, Oswalt, and Backe. Sure, Edmonds hit that home run last night. But he hasn't been consistently there with momentum changing at-bats the entire time, just like Kent. Pujols has.

Moving on, I'm pulling for the Astros. Not *just* because I'm from Houston, but because I think they're the better team and would make for a more exciting World Series. Let's see... Schilling, Pedro, Clemens, Oswalt, Backe? Or Schilling, Pedro, Suppan, Tavarez?

2004-10-21 11:11:43 AM
FUDGONAUT, actually Detroit already won a championship this year (you know, in that "black sport") and there wasn't any riots.
2004-10-21 11:14:54 AM
2004-10-21 11:15:49 AM
I didn't say 'any' sport. I said baseball...the World Series. Then we'll see.

Baseball fans are nuts. Everywhere.

""Those of you STILL hating on the Red Sox... for crying out loud, let us have our moment of glory. As it has been said, Boston came back from a 3 game deficit and had 4 rather convincing wins against the "world champion" Yankees. Bottom line, the Yankees CHOKED. ""

You're right. They choked. They should have closed that series out in game 4 or 5. but you have a few things wrong:

The Yankees aren't the world champs. They choked in the series the last two times they were there. there was over a dozen times where a bloop single would have eliminated the Red Sox this year, and again they choked. They only have themselves to blame.

The Red Sox had one convincing win in this series: game 7, when it counted, and again the Yanks choked.farking losers. I have been a NY fan my entire life and they beat themselves. Oh well. 10 minutes after the game I was over it. When they lost game 4 I knew those washed up overpaid morons would blow it.
2004-10-21 11:17:42 AM
That's funny. I didn't know the Yankees sucked before I read this topic.

I was fooled by their 25+ World Series wins, and Boston's tendency to...oh...SUCK.

But this thread has shown me the light, and now I know that, despite being the best team in baseball history, the Yankees suck.

/Baseball sucks
//Come back hockey!

Also a Cubs fan, and I also am down with the Sox. If one curse can be broken, so can another. Then maybe the media will STFU about the goat, the Babe, etc.

Damon is now my homeboy!

Please note that "world champion" was and continues to be in quotes. It seems like any time a talking head referred to them this past season, they started off with "world champion" Yankees.

Remember the intro to the first game when they compared the two teams to the rebels and the empire from Star Wars?

I guess the Yankee Death Star Asploded!

"This was much more than a season-ending defeat -- it was an unprecedented choke job. Just three outs from a sweep on Sunday, the Yankees dropped four games in a row, becoming the first team in postseason baseball history to blow a 3-0 lead in a best-of-seven series...And now the New York Yankees, the most storied team in all of sports, are right at the top of an embarrassing list. It will be a painful piece of infamy for everyone in pinstripes. And it will certainly bring the wrath of owner George Steinbrenner this winter -- probably sooner."

-Mike Fitzpatrick, Chicago Sun-Times
