The first and second images in this thread are... strange. I like them. Don't get me wrong.

Amazingly enough there have been first aid classes spacifically to be used on animals.

Richard Gere's gerbil can't breathe?? Um sorry little guy, can't help ya.

They're lucky it didn't melt in the fire!

It's nice to find some way (other than food, a nice soft bed, walks and romps, doggie treats and petting and skritching behind the ears) to repay the absolute unconditional love dogs give us. Terrific post.

Great use of the HERO tag.

I don't think I'd let those neighbors look after my dog anymore...

Worthy of the hero tag.

Just remember to be careful if you ever slip your tongue into a dog's throat. Dogs don't know it's not bacon. IT'S BACON!!

jpiercy: thanks for reminding us of the super job dogs did in the 9/11 aftermath.

I saw this on TV and figured this says it all:

An exhausted rescue worker and his equally exhausted dog sit down on a curb for what is probably the first time in hours. The rescue worker pulls his water bottle from his hip, opens it, and lets his dog drink first. Then, he drinks.

2004-10-19 10:05:28 AM
Dogg was later quoted as saying, "Fo' shizzille my nizzle bizzle the fizzle wizzle."
and that, children, is how the fireman saved the hasbeen rapper who just won't die. Dogg even thanked fireman in his next album, Barely Liftin' a Finga'

Awww...what a great story!!

I, too, am impressed with the rescue dogs that helped out after 9/11. If anyone is looking for a truly remarkable story - read "Bear: Heart of a Hero" by Scott Shields. Amazing story!!

I am such a sap when it comes to dogs. That article made me cry. What truly fantastic creatures

Maybe his breath was so bad because he was blowing into the wrong end of the dog.

I apologise for the vagueness, I can't remember it very well, but has anybody else seen that a TV documentary about dogs in the Vietnam war?

They interviewed war veterans who had dog companions for their missions and the stories they told were truly heart-wrenching, how the dogs literally died trying to save their human companions.

Probably the most emotional TV experience I ever had, if you can imagine watching these hardened war veterans break down and cry in front of the cameras when they remembered what the dogs did for them... :o(

As an ex-firefighter I've seen this done on kittens too.

/it's all about the kittens, you have to keep them alive for musky bait.

I think it's just wonderful that a man with a snout can overcome his disability and become a firefighter.

My dad did this to a Bassett Hound puppy 25 years ago. The dog lived and was a family pet for 15+ years. Never was very smart (brain damage maybe?), but still was a good dog.

I live on a ranch -- a sheet of plywood fell onto my 5-day old goat last winter and nearly suffocated him... i used mouth-to-snout to resucitate him as well.

/no kidding.
