I'd like to point out something weird about the ABC News site.

Isn't it a bit silly to use a Flash plugin (twice!) for the headline? If you look carefully, the headline and subheadline are both embedded .swf files. I guess they really, really, really want to use the Futura font, and are using Flash to get it.

Odd web design, but I guess it's better than using an image for the text.

I'm guessing that none of them were tight butts...

Did you guys just learn about flash? You're wasting resources by putting flash all over the place. You can't even read the headline without flash! For someone who doesn't use flash this makes your site quite useless.Why would you waste your time making headlines in flash when they can be done much quicker using simple HTML. Nothing is being gained by using flash.

Must be nice to be able to take time off work (assuming they have jobs) to protest something as serious as prisoner abuse by making an ass (no pun intended) of yourself. I have to wonder if there weren't more constructive ways to voice their opinions or if they were just doing it for the publicity. Actually no, I don't have to wonder, I already know the answer.

Actually, several people protested the hostage-killing by having their heads chopped off during the meeting. There wasn't any point in prosecuting them tough, so it never made the papers. They were also wearing thongs, btw.

then again, who hasnt formed a naked man butt pyramid for the heck of it. Probably just reminded bush of his college days.

I was thinking "more constructive" in terms of trying to get their point across and maybe change some peoples minds or at least get them to examine a different point of view. This kind of protest (while exciting and sure to garner publicity) seems to drown out the message they're trying to promote. Maybe it's just me but when I hear of someone doing something like this I tend to think the people invloved are dumbasses. A Month from now people will probably remember that some guys in thongs were protesting but how many will remember what their message was? At any rate this is just my opinion on the matter, feel free to flame away.

Oh please. Yeah, all protestors are jobless hippies. Come one, get a new canard. Publicity? Well, yeah, that's sort of the whole idea behind public protest. As for the "how dare you make light of something so serious" tack, frankly, Bush does that every single day and he's sending people to their deaths. Showing him the balloon knot is in infinitely better taste than his smug little shiat-eating "I've made no mistakes" grin. He should be thrilled that people still hold him in such high esteem that the worst offense he's suffered is the sight of a few hairy butts.

The bottom line is, if you want to get your political views noticed, do something outrageous and annoying.

There's nothing more boring than listening to informed individuals calmly discussing issues in a rational manner...

Even my 98 year-old grandmother surfs the net using the plug-in.
