Wahhh.I want my picture in the yearbook with my gun...do it or I will sue.

I think I get it now, it's ok to sue the schools when it's a problem that needs dire attention.

Oh....I just thought of something, What if that dork was a muslim, would you pro-gun guys be all about free speech then?
P.S. It's ok to admit your wrong.

Looking through these post, I am now convinced that Gun supporters are friggin imbeciles(that means stupid)who do not understand their own concept of "smaller government".

Modern societies have lost the ability to use judgement. Everything is black and white. Using a gun for skeet shooting is the same as being a gang-banger. The end. Certainly let's not reward this kid for being RESPONSIBLE with guns.

"Hey kid, you can be as responsible as the Pope, we're still going to ban your ass. Miserable little punk."

2004-10-13 12:53:04 PM
Yep, that is pretty stupid.

But who cares? It's a high school yearbook!!

On a similar note, I just sold my high school yearbooks on ebay! Seems going to Permian High School paid off after all!

Buncha farking bleeding-heart ostriches, heads buried in their own asses.

me:
For gun control.
For safeteys on guns.
For background checks for all gun purchases, be it in a store or gun show

Also: Sees no problem with this picture and thinks the administration has their collective hats up their asses.

"Umm, yes. Little Jamie can be in a cheerleader outfit. Little Bobby is ok to show that he has a letter jacket. But ... OH MY GOD A GUN! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!"

WTF is with society?

We had archery in gym class. That's way more dangerous than a picture of a tool holding an unloaded gun in a yearbook picture.

It's not an offensive picture, except for the pure tool-osity of the kid holding the gun. Lame.

Unlike Klebold and crew, this young lad seems to be using firearms in a more positive manner. He should get to pose with it.

In my senior photo I was facing backwards giving the "check out my back" downward thumbs, of course pointing to the huge embroidered "Cobra" on my leather jacket.

Cobra is the name, cool is my game, jack.

2004-10-13 01:09:06 PM
my highschool had no problem with us useing props in our senior photo.

i had my shot with me standing next to my 69 corvette, was something alot diffrent then they had ever seen before, minus the dumbass a few years ago who had a pic of him burning out in his thunderbird. they had no problems at all puting that in the year book, its by far one of the coolest pics in that senior section.

2004-10-13 01:11:18 PM
It's the school's yearbook. They own it, and they can do whatever they want to do with it. This shmuck just wanted to stir people up so he would not be remembered as the "skeet shooting douchbag" but as "the upholder of the 2nd admendment".
I said it before and I will say it again, You people are such tools.

Every story like this drives me a little more Libertarian. Good thing I'm Canadian, and actually have freedom, in real life, instead of just on an increasingly ignored piece of paper.

That said, this dork is a big tool.

"I actually voted for the gun in the picture, before I voted against it."

/makes you wonder

I applaud the school's descision. Obviously the boy is a psychotic maniac who wants to come into your house and kill you and rape your family. I mean look at him, he's got a gun!

2004-10-13 01:43:07 PM
That's not even that bad compared to my middle school. Everyone had put in their email addresses in the year book, and my friends' got removed because it included "SalaciousCrumb" (from Star Wars) and since it included the word "salacious", they took it out.

2004-10-13 01:50:58 PM
My school put in a photo of me dressed up as a girl on Halloween. That was WAY more offensive than this picture.

Granted, it was in a section on Halloween. But it still wasn't fair, I didn't even know that picture existed.

2004-10-13 02:17:07 PM
When my class got our Senior pictures taken we had to have one picture with a plain grey background for the yearbook, but we could choose other backdrops to buy. The school wanted them all to have a uniform appearance. There were a few people who complained, but no one would've ever thought to sue. It's a school yearbook for Christ's sake, either give them a different picture or don't be in it at all, why are lawyers even involved?

2004-10-13 02:46:28 PM
Random stat....More people are injured and killed each year playing football than shooting skeet....

2004-10-13 02:47:01 PM
the year I was on yearbook staff, we got in trouble for not censoring a picture that had "the pope farks dogs" written on the blackboard in the background.

I still giggle whenever I dig out the yearbook and see that page.

2004-10-13 03:18:40 PM
I would have banned the pic not because he was holding a firearm but because he was wearing a farking vest!

Soccer moms (like women in general) abso-farking-lutely vote democrat. Why do you think they first became big to talk about during Clinton's victorious presidential bid?

That was the perception (gleefully advanced by the press) in the 90's that these suburban, SUV driving soccer moms were liberals. Further research has refuted that snap judgement and, come to find out, these women trend republican. The only women in the country that trend democratic are single, young women - which is a minority. These days the "gender gap" is generally recognized to be men against nanny-state democrats.

Clinton got 43% of the vote in '92 and 49% in '96. The "soccer mom" phenomenon, if you recall, was really a pre-election discussion topic that kinda dried up after the election.

That Press - they just crack me up.

pussy liberals, always sniffling over words and pictures. values? who cares...

Whatever happened to posing for one's senior portrait IN A CAP AND GOWN like MOST high school seniors do?

If the NRA is going to pressure the school to allow this kid to pose with a gun because shooting is his hobby, then I see no harm in allowing other kids to pose with items representing their hobbies. High school yearbooks will be much more interesting with photos of Johnny and his porn mag collection, Suzy and her vibrator, etc.

2004-10-13 04:04:28 PM
I had a gun in my HS Yearbook. It was an Anschuetz 1913. But I was also on the Illinios State Champ Rifle Team.

2004-10-13 04:27:41 PM
I wonder, What would the school officials find more offensive: Him holding his shotgun, or him holding his other "gun".

2004-10-13 05:35:15 PM
Wow, this is retarded. It is a constitutional right to carry a firearm. Apparently the school thinks the bill of rights isn't important. Way to rewrite history asshats. Just because a few bad apples use guns to kill people doesn't mean they should be illegal. A gun is a tool. So is a knife. So is a car.

If we never had guns, we'd still be under British control, and probably never defeated the Native Americans.

I'm glad we have the internet. I live in Windham which borders Londonderry, so I'm going to watch the evening news and learn how this was an excellent decision by the school and a bullshiat interview with a soccer mom who wouldn't know the bill of rights if it were tattooed on her ass. I can see from reading the posts that most people think this was a stupid decision, and that gives me hope that America hasn't gone brain-dead yet.

2004-10-13 06:21:01 PM
Without going into the US constitution or NRA shizznit....The last time I checked, skeet shooting was an olympic sport which means it's a world recognised legitimate sport. This would then be equal to banning track spikes because you could injure someone by belting them with it. Or banning fencing swords. Or Archery equipment...etc

/shoots self with starters pistol

Good thing I'm Canadian, and actually have freedom, in real life, instead of just on an increasingly ignored piece of paper.

Ha. In your "free" country, you have to:

1. Get the Queen's permission to possess a firearm;
2. Get the Queen's permission to purchase ammunition, and
3. Get the Queen's permission to transport your firearm to and from the firing range.

Not my idea of freedom, Canuck!

"If we never had guns, we'd still be under British control, and probably never defeated the Native Americans."

That's the funniest thing I've read all day.

For what it's worth, I'm a pinko liberal yuppie, and even I believe this school is retarded. But, seriously. Defeated the Native Americans? Wow.

2004-10-13 09:37:19 PM
It's not like a picture of a gun is going to kill people. Seriously, that's just dumb. My dad and his best friend posed for their senior group pic holding their deer rifles.

/I skeet skeet skeet on the administrative decision

PEOPLE!! READ!!

Direct from the article!!

'Blake Douglass can have the photo published in a ``community sports'' section, and a new photo .....can appear in the seniors' section of the Londonderry High School yearbook. '

And again, I repost:
Good on him for his 'all American' hobby, but if the school wants a more 'face focused' picture for the Senior Section of the year book, that's their choice. They didn't ban the picture from the yearbook. It will still appear, but in a more 'theme' related section, because it IS a 'theme' picture. As long as they have the same 'no props' or 'minimum props' for ALL the senior photos. We had a 'guideline' for our senior pictures for the yearbook. The student's FACE had to take up a minimum of 40% of the picture. If they were in clubs and such, that was always featured somewhere else in the book. (we had to fill those pages somehow!) The school needs to stand on the grounds that it is NOT because it is a gun, but because it simply doesn't show enough of the student's face to constitute a 'Senior Portrait'.

Stop your 'defend my rights' rubbish and knee jerk reactions.

2004-10-14 07:12:53 AM
I'm just curious as to why the school allowed the photo to be taken if they weren't going to allow it to be published in the seniors' section. Why didn't they just inform him that his choice of props was unacceptable to them at the time instead of waiting until now to pitch a biatch?

Trixie212,
Senior portraits are done independant of the school, usually by professional studios. You're usually given a number of options by the studio as to poses and price and number and size of prints. These studios do portraits of kids from many different area schools, so the standards vary and it's not their responsibility to ensure the kids choose poses that adhere to a particual 'school policy'.
The kids will have done OTHER poses as part of his studio sitting and will just have to choose one of these pictures that show his FACE better, not his HOBBY.

"new photo - without the gun but featuring other elements of skeet and trap shooting"

What, the kid's supposed to hold a clay pigeon? Yeah, that'll look cool...
