There's a couple places in Newfoundland with names that promote much merriment..

Dildo and Come By Chance Harbour

Oh, and this sign for Hershey Highway seems apropriate too with the yellow sign underneath, but might be photoshopped.

There was a place in Birmingham, Michigan that was selling shirts with a picture of the "Exit 69 - Big Beaver Rd." Sign on them. I bought one before I moved out of state. I thought it would be cool, but I find myself having to explain to people I'm not some kind of pervert. People don't believe it's a real sign.

Hell of an engineering coincidence to get Big Beaver to be Exit 69 off I-75.

Used to be, in Eugene, 13th and High was *the* place to score... you just started there, and walked towards campus, and it was, "nugs? buds? cid? shrooms?" the whole way down.

But then, in 1998, they busted everyone they could, outlawed skateboarding and dogs and loitering (the known trademarks of the old dope peddlers), and i even got handcuffed down there one night just for talking to some random guy about all the arrests. Farking police said "i saw you hand him something!" and thus, in the late nineties, true counterculture in eugene gave way to trust fund beggar babies, wholesome downtown values as symoblized by continually failing "downtown revitalization" projects, and a clean-cut Oregon Country Fair. And people who get stupid high and steal street signs while snickering.

Now all we've got is a statue of Ken Kesey.

in oakland, there's "LEET Drive". it's near the oakland airport.

Yeah I live on a High St. The solution was to put the sign up about 45 ft on a telephone pole then attach individual letters spelling out High on the lower parts of the pole.

2004-10-12 08:45:20 PM
in oshkosh not only do we have a "high street" which i live on but a "south park ave"

There is a Kangaroo Ct. near my house.

The UK's got more than a few... Amusing UK place names

and there are High Streets everywhere.

Also, some UK maps use "Ho." as an abbreviation for "house" - there's a "Black Ho." and a "White Ho." right near each other, somewhere in Yorkshire.

Gay, MI old train station photo:
http://www.michiganrailroads.com/RRHX/Stations/CountyStations/KeweenawStations /GayMI.htm

They make T-Shirts here in Metro Detroit with the Exit 69 Big Beaver Rd. freeway sign on it. You could never steal a Big Beaver sign... it's a big, well-travelled street and they put in big expensive street signs that are way up on the poles. Plus you don't wanna tangle with cops from Troy, MI... they can be pretty mean...

funny thing, there's a street called "Hooker" in my grandma's neighborhood...wonder how many times that sign has been stolen.

/estimating thefts in the hundreds, at least of this particular sign and grew up in a baaad neighborhood.

Neighbor in college had a '3 way' sign on his wall. They show up at T junctions with stopsigns in all directions.

2004-10-12 09:07:49 PM
My brother lives on 69th Ave. That sign was stole so many times that they finally just painted it onto a boulder.

2004-10-12 09:12:03 PM
There's a road up near Buffalo called "Leet Road." And we've stolen one of those signs at every single LAN party for the past year or so.

2004-10-12 09:13:20 PM
Honestly the most famous street sign ever stolen and I cant find a decent pic. Well it was going to be tim armstrongs amp but nooooo.

No one here is from Lancaster county, PA?

Anyway I was born and raised there. Here's a few choice towns:

^^Intercourse, PA

^^Blue Ball, PA

and the ever popular Bird-in-Hand.

There's also the Paradise Valley in PA, but I couldn't find a decent shot of that.

Odd thing is, all these towns are right on top of one another.

I live in Eugene. It's full of people who watch the Daily Show.

/obscure?

2004-10-12 09:18:08 PM
in my area the ones most stolen are "pinch em slyly ln" and "naked creek run" of course, someone took the "flicker drive" sign and somehow made the L and the I look like a u... wish i could get a picture of that...

i don't think the high street sign gets stolen often because it's right near the courthouse downtown and the police always circle continualy... at least, i've never seen that one missing.

I actually live on Easy Street, just outside of Knoxville, TN. Our street sign used to disappear within 3-4 days of being put up. The last time, they put it on a second stop sign pole on top of the original one so now it's like 12 feet in the air. I've got one of them myself though lol.

2004-10-12 09:36:21 PM
I don't get it. What's the significance of the number 420 and signs being stolen? Does it have something to do with drugs?

On the way through Missouri I came across a company called Fag Bearings, I figure that's like Gaydar? It's kind of shocking that Missouri would have that, judging by the number of porn kills families signs directly next to strip clubs/adult bookstores I saw there. I'm originally from Ohio, but made frequent trips to Detroit. I went out of my way after Tigers games to go up north to Exit 69 on I-75. Also on the way down to my friend's house in Richmond, KY, I'd always laugh at the Big Bone Lick State Park.

2004-10-12 10:10:23 PM
I second a request from Mr. Miniac78 for a sign.

2004-10-12 10:26:34 PM
BearToy,

I've been to Thunder Hole... very cool place. If you go at high tide and the water is coming in just right, it sounds incredible. But the bugs are terrible!!!

2004-10-12 10:28:27 PM
There's an Electric Ave here in the East Nashville 'hood. I want that sign. No one would miss it. If only I could get Electric Boogaloo Street from over on the West side...Damn Westsiders keepin all the good sequels to themselves.

2004-10-12 10:30:21 PM
john_frink - this version of the sign is much funnier. The paint over "tails" still hasn't been removed.

2004-10-12 10:48:09 PM
I remember thinking how appropriate it was that I lived on Grief Street during a particularly ugly divorce.

Pyr0 O, how I wish I had a pic of some guy named "Jerke" running for some office here in Greeley, CO on the Repub ticket; see it every day on my way to Tai Chi on 10th Ave, funny stuff.

/pic is worth 1,000 words, sentiments are a dime a dozen, alas!

Hey Guys, I just re-read my comment in the middle of all your funny ones and dang if I didn't sound like "Debbie Downer" . . . wah-wah . . .

One of the most stolen street signs in Canada (Specifically Yellowknife, NWT):

2004-10-12 11:41:32 PM
no mention of
in Warren County, NJ
There's also Hexenkopf Road in Easton, PA that's stolen quite often, and in High School, our favorite was the village of Beersville sign near Northampton, PA on rt 248... woo?

2004-10-12 11:56:40 PM
Here in my po-dunk town we have a "Bumpass" street named after somebody who lived there. If that wasn't funny enough, it was the street everyone use to go parking on. nothing like bump'n azz on Bumpass.

The Nashville area has a lot of Gay Streets, and even a Gayland Street! Not to mention a Stoner's Creek, which has its own elementary school. BTW, their honor student bumper stickers are hilarious! There's even a subdivision here called Stoner's Glen, and a restaurant called Stoner's.

When I was growing up in MS, there were so many strange place names. A lot of my college friends came from a place called Loyd Star. My cousins lived in a small community called Hog Chain. The state kept putting up signs for it, but they kept getting stolen.

In Salem, OR, it is possible to be standing on the corner of Fawk n High.

2004-10-13 12:16:55 AM
Fayetteville, NC has a dandy street named "Bimbo Drive" I couldn't believe that they would actually name a street that.

/should've taken a pic at least

2004-10-13 12:30:10 AM
We had a street called "Rocky Rd." back home.

/guffaw

There are other highways named 666 though, like this.

2004-10-13 03:21:08 AM
A friend in high school had the sign from the intersection of long and johnson at one point.
