Whoa.

This'll put a scare into some folks.

2004-10-11 12:56:31 AM
Wow. They're friggin dropping like flies tonight.

Sucks, but from what I know of his admitted steriod use, he kinda had it coming...

2004-10-11 12:59:36 AM
First superman, now steroidman.

/got nothin'

At least there's a legitimate news source to quote on this one. We just heard it on ESPN.

2004-10-11 01:05:42 AM
Yikes. The death trifecta is looking for its last component now.

2004-10-11 01:06:05 AM
Ya, when I saw it on ESPN, I came here to add the info, but ESPN didn't have a page on it, so I found it on Fox Sports first.

I'd tend to believe that Chris Reeve has died as well. If Druge is wrong, that's bad stuff.

2004-10-11 01:18:47 AM
To quote Shatner:

"You're gonna die."

2004-10-11 01:26:11 AM
it's gotta suck to die on the same day somebody else more famous dies. well, i guess he probably doesn't care at the moment.

2004-10-11 01:28:50 AM
it's gotta suck to die on the same day somebody else more famous dies.

I think they should create an "Aldous Huxley Award" for them. Huxley died 11/22/63.

Peaceboy

So did C.S. Lewis if I'm not mistaken.

Man, what a downer evening. RIP, Mr. Caminiti. Great ball player - unfortunately, horrible role model.

Not to be insensitive here, but this should really provide some ammunition for keeping athletes (especially young ones) from taking steroids.

2004-10-11 01:59:21 AM
okay, we have learned tonight:

No steroids, no drugs, no booze, no horse jumping and go easy on the cock. Check.

2004-10-11 02:03:45 AM
I've had the pleasure of heckling this guy at Wrigley Field. Not because he was juiced on steroids, but because he was a Houston Astro.

I'd just read where he was trying to straighten himself out and even had a couple of coaching offers on the table for next year. Guess the damage was already done. A real shame. Then again, Caminiti's death might just convince some young athletes not to get mixed up with this shiat.

Let's hope that's the case, anyway.

2004-10-11 03:24:19 AM
Damn shame. He had everything, and so young.

2004-10-11 04:43:26 AM
I Blame Bush and that stem cell thingie!

2004-10-11 04:43:52 AM
He was the guy that did the big thing with Sports Illustrated on steroids like 1 year back. This will prob. bring steroids to the forefront but lemme clarify that Caminiti did LOTS of other hard drugs and its obviously apparent in everyone they interviewed for the article from ESPN. Like 3 people they interviewed who knew him all said he was involved in some serious abuse.

2004-10-11 04:47:28 AM
Well, at least he got a few more years than Florence Griffith Joyner, she died at 38. F***ing cheaters, both of them.

2004-10-11 04:47:58 AM
Wow.

2004-10-11 04:49:36 AM
Go former Leigh Longhorn!

2004-10-11 04:51:58 AM
RIP Cammi, steroids aside you gave us hope in a Championship challenged town.

Damn good years in SD.

2004-10-11 04:52:42 AM
Oh and, RIP. Go Longhorns!

2004-10-11 04:53:45 AM
who will complete the trifecta?

2004-10-11 04:54:27 AM
Steriods can kill? Bonds better watch out!

2004-10-11 04:55:07 AM
and still no respect for Derrida.

I think they should create an "Aldous Huxley Award" for them. Huxley died 11/22/63.

Ray Charles would certainly be among its recipients. Quite famous himself, but his death went largely unnoticed, as he went just after Reagan.

2004-10-11 04:57:20 AM
I'll never forget the play against the Astros I think it was in '98:

Hard ground ball to the left side down the line, Caminiti dives for it, gets the ball, is sitting on his ass, throws from his butt and guns the guy at first. Un-be-farking-leivable. This was, of course long before we knew he was on 'roids, but it was still a helluva play nonetheless.

2004-10-11 04:58:38 AM
Who'sext i the trifecta?

/one ticket, please

2004-10-11 04:59:57 AM
Dangerfield was the first of the death trio.

Reeve was the second, Caminiti rounds it out.

Don't do cocaine, kids. Bad for the ticker. Even when you're young.

knew he was on 'roids, but it was still a helluva play nonetheless.

No doubt. Sitting on your ass and throwing objects hurts like hell if you have hemrroids.

2004-10-11 05:00:03 AM
Well, um, don't do steroids.

/go Pads!

2004-10-11 05:01:15 AM
I remember SI asking Caminiti about what advice he would give to a young ballplayer about steroids. He was the only one who gave an honest answer, going something like this--

"Hell yeah, I'd tell him to do it. Sure there are risks, but the rewards are worth it. He's got a chance to set up his wife and kids for life, and the guy he's competing against for the position is as big as a house. What the hell do you think I would tell him? Go back to bagging groceries?"

2004-10-11 05:02:10 AM
My guess for the death trifecta has to be President Ford. He's in his 90s, so his number should be up soon.

2004-10-11 05:03:27 AM
RepNatComm
I wouldn't doubt that. Nothin' against Ford (decent guy, just prez at the wrong time), but the clock is ticking.

2004-10-11 05:04:00 AM
Considering that he failed a drug test for cocaine last month, this isn't all the steroids' fault.

2004-10-11 05:04:25 AM

While I do not approve of Steroidal use, I gotta say, that's a good quote.

wee, athletic junkie

2004-10-11 05:06:30 AM
Yeah, pretty farking great when your dad dies at 41.

My dad died at 41 too. Fortunately, it wasn't from him shooting up.

2004-10-11 05:08:07 AM
drugs are bad, mmkay?

2004-10-11 05:10:34 AM
Yeah, Dangerfield was #1 on the trifecta. You guys are just messed up because these two happened one on top of the other.

Later.

This proves that self-destruction is not neccesarily a team sport in Houston.

1) Get released from jail.

2) Die of heart attack within the week.

Note to self: Jail is heathier than crack!

Who is this "Reagan"?

2004-10-11 05:21:24 AM
--I'd just read where he was trying to straighten himself out and even had a couple of coaching offers on the table for next year.--

He was just trying to purify his coke. Coaching offers were from Gooden and Strawberry on how to get their coke lines as straight as the first base line.

Slap an obvious tag on this death. At least he was honest about it though.

I'm gonna do a line in honor of Mr. Caminiti tonight.

Surprisingly, this caught me off-guard and I feel bad for him and his kids left behind.

I was a big fan of his when he played for the Astros and I'll never forget that arm of his. It was good to see him get the MVP after he left. Even if an asterik is needed by his name.

I actually saw him a few months ago while he was visiting a woman, I'm guessing was his girlfriend, in the smoking area of the hospital I work for. He was still huge but was weary of making eye contact in case he was recognized. When no one was around I told him how great he was and thanked him for the contributions he made to the Astros and he was surprisingly gracious. It's odd to think about how you go from MVP to being arrested in a crackhouse.

I've had a shiatty weekend so excuse my thoughtless ramblings.

Sad and all, but cheer up, the Niners won!!
