That just got put on my desktop.

*depression expected to increase by 10 everyday I turn on my computer*
2004-10-08 12:22:27 AM
coolest photo you'll see ever.
2004-10-08 12:22:33 AM
Pretty impressive. I wish my camera did things like that.
2004-10-08 12:23:02 AM
That's the coolest photo I will see this week. Those droids, however, are not the...
2004-10-08 12:23:10 AM
I don't get it? How does the lightning show up solid but the stars show up as streaks?
2004-10-08 12:23:16 AM
2004-10-08 12:23:28 AM

Now make it a Photoshop contest!

What I think the sumbitter meant to say was:

The best photo until the next boobies link.
2004-10-08 12:25:16 AM
That's absolutely beautiful. New desktop.
2004-10-08 12:25:25 AM
looks like ive got a new wall paper.
2004-10-08 12:26:03 AM
Beautiful. I was at a friend's cottage this summer, I got up early one morning to watch the sunrise, and it was probably the most beautiful sunrise I've ever seen. The mist on the lake was incredible... I was so mad I didn't have a camera.
2004-10-08 12:26:26 AM
I'd hit it.
2004-10-08 12:26:32 AM
LuigiHann: Because the lightning didn't move across the image, of course. The stars did. The lightning was just bright enough to still appear that bright on the exposure.

My question is, why the ocean and the clouds look like the exposure was normal time. The clouds must have been not moving at all, I guess.
2004-10-08 12:27:57 AM
i never like the pictures we normally get sent from that site, but this one kicks ass muchly.
2004-10-08 12:28:42 AM
Without the explaination of what's going on, I'm really not that impressed with the image. The color shift is poor. The hot spot of white in the cloud formation near the discharge and the overexposed yellow moon offset by the darkness on the right side leaves the image unbalanced.
2004-10-08 12:28:49 AM
It was much cooler looking in the frame. Over my bed. In the Motel 6. Where I was banging a 14 year old Puer+++NO CARRIER
2004-10-08 12:28:49 AM
Ditto on the new desktop.
2004-10-08 12:29:04 AM
That picture is the coolest. More cooler then the time i saw umm.... a ghost buying milk at a corner store..ya
2004-10-08 12:29:22 AM
It's OK.

Seriously, just OK.

If there was at least SOME hint of a nipple, it'd be significantly improved.
2004-10-08 12:31:42 AM
Why do certain people have to pick apart everything. Just enjoy the picture, i dont care if its real or not. it just looks cool.
2004-10-08 12:32:33 AM
I wouldn't hit it.

No, seriously, despite the fact that today brought a gorgeous Brazilian to my computer in the form of an excellent Boobies link, this is the coolest picture I've seen in a LONG time.

Kudos to NASA for posting it on the APOD (which I view quite often) and double kudos to the photographer.

2004-10-08 12:23:10 AM LuigiHann

I don't get it? How does the lightning show up solid but the stars show up as streaks?

The shutter has to be left open for a while in the hope that you'll catch some lightning in the shot. Here's my best shot so far.. not all that good though:

I have a 1600x1200 if anyone wants it.
2004-10-08 12:34:09 AM
LuigiHann, those are raindrops ;)
2004-10-08 12:34:33 AM
That photo is 100x better than most of the boobies that have been posted lately
2004-10-08 12:34:37 AM
Oooohhhhh!!! Ahhhhhh!!
2004-10-08 12:34:46 AM
hello new wallpaper
2004-10-08 12:36:15 AM
I disagree. I got a pretty nice photo of a girl from my work...
2004-10-08 12:37:15 AM
Whoa... New wallpaper indeed.
2004-10-08 12:38:18 AM
Killshot: I suggest you check out Tuesdays boobies links. Homina homina

2004-10-08 12:39:32 AM
wow, best pic i've ever seen i think. for the first time in 4 years, i've got a new desktop.
2004-10-08 12:39:37 AM
I was expecting boobies and vagina
2004-10-08 12:40:13 AM
Oh, I think I get it. When the camera is open for a long time like that, any lighting flish will be permanently fused into it in that instant, but the stars are there constantly, and they're moving. I get it. And that's why the moon is so... sunny I suppose. Because it was exposed so long.
2004-10-08 12:40:31 AM

Are its knees sharp too?
2004-10-08 12:40:40 AM
I found this one while GIS'ing around... pretty cool as well!

Damn, that does look beautiful.
/new desktop here, too.
2004-10-08 12:41:47 AM
How could anyone use that as a wallpaper? The resolution is way too....oh wait it's actually huge and the page is resizing it.
/Why wasn't there a "High res!" link for the lazy?
//It's as if they're intentionally trying to kill their servers.
