To think the Philadelphia Eagles fan's wanted him, and booed Donovan McNabb.

They would be nowhere now.

Great decision Andy Reid.

"Williams, 27, has given many reasons for retiring. He expressed a desire to continue smoking marijuana, and he said he was unhappy about his contract, a workload he considered excessive and Miami's new offensive coordinator Chris Foerster"

What wasn't mentioned was that he was under contractual obligation to pee sitting down.

Last straw.

As a precursor to coming back, I'd make him shave his head.

2004-10-06 06:44:33 AM
And to think a lot of Eagles fans were pissed when the drafted McNabb over this loser.

Maybe Daryl Srawberry could give him some advice on comebacks....

The problem in view is simply that Ricky is engaging in an illegal activity. This opens him up to blackmail. As a star player, Ricky is in a VERY good position to throw games. But there could be NO possible conflict of interest with what he does in his private life and his duty to perform to his best for the team.

This is the same reason what public officials should NOT be screwing around with interns or other stupid things. Not because I care what they are morally bankrupt individuals, but because they are putting themselves in a postions to have influence exerted over them.

Oh and I should get my little violins out for Rickys 'hard work load'. Boo frigging hooo. I feel so sorry for that little boy.

re: "It's a good thing this is typing, not talking, because with that big a mouthful of establishment dick, we wouldn't have been able to understand a thing you were saying."

Excellent characterization of about 90 percent of the conformist pea-brains on fark incapable of independant thought and free will.

Please report to the Central Authority for re-programming.

Having to pay back that $8.6 million was harshing his buzz.

BearToy:

Maybe I'm taking this wrong, but are you talking crap about people that passionately follow sports teams? If so, then from what I've seen you post, you really don't have any room to talk crap about anyone.

Sports fans are nerds too.

And I watch anime, so Im an authority on nerd-ocity.

Spacemarinekilla, I love that whole attitude that people get that lets then think that their team can trade someone for anything.

What team in their right mind would give a solid back AND draft picks for Williams at this point. I know he is talented, but he is also a proven headcase, keeps getting suspended for drugs and will be looked on with disrespect by fans, teammates and the media. Yeah, that is worth both a solid back and some picks.

I don't mean this as a knock to you, cause everyone does it. Best way to observe this is to listen to talk radio about the Red Sox or the Maple Leafs.

(We should trade Berg, Belak and prospects for St. Louis. Prospects can do anything.)

I don't care about the chiba. Ricky's addiction is his problem. However, if you sign a contract- you honor it.
If you say you're going to work for your money- you do it.
If you can't go to work and maintain your self-imposed recreation addiction then pick one.

Oh wait, no one gets paid millions and enjoys the perks of fame for being a muscle-bound dickhead and a potsmoking loser.

Ricky is an absolute chump.

Jimmy Johnson hit the nail on the head when he said during Fox pregame #1, the guy is a no-good bum.

I hope he gets laughed out of the league.

Hey Steve French and others,

Ever watch South Park?

"Conformist" (gotta love those goth kids)

It's not what you do that makes you a conformist, it's why you do what you do.

If a man with a head for business and accounting wants to join a big company and work for them because he needs to pay off his student loans and support his family that doesn't make him a conformist. It is simply that the man is doing what is best for himself and his family at the time. He could work for a small privately owned business and make less money, or he could start his own business and work long hours with much greater risk, or he could work for Some Big Evil corporation (SBE inc.) and get a regular pay check and still have a bit of time with his wife and kids. Sure they may have more control over his life, but he knew that going in when he agreed to work there. People in this country still have the freedom to sign contracts or not, and when you violate said contract, then the other party may come after you legally. Don't like it, don't sign it. The trick is to take your own path people, be you, but don't be surprised if that lands you in trouble from time to time. Take shots on the war on drugs if you want, I'll back you up to a point, but taking shots at corporations for stipulating that you may lose your job for breaking the law seems a bit asinine to me. Remember, they're not here to give you jobs people. No one has a duty to support your stoned ass. If you don't like the rules change 'em. Start your own business. Simple as that.

Ditka got it right on Dennis Miller last night. Williams doesn't want to get hit any more.

Running backs who carry the load are mules for the man.

Most end up suffering pain and mental problems from the constant pounding. It's no small wonder other go to backs called it quits early. Earl Campbell didn't and when he was 40 he looked 60. Gayle Sayers, Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Robert Smith. 11 physical freaks trying to take you out every play. fark dat.

2004-10-06 09:25:30 AM
fark Jimmy Johnson and the other coaches. They could give a shiat about players. Once they are used up, they get kicked to the curb.

2004-10-06 09:27:50 AM
Proof positive: pot makes you stupid.

2004-10-06 09:40:02 AM
Best move the Saints ever made in their pathetic history by unloading this nutjob.
BTW FARK You Ditka for drafting him in the first place.

2004-10-06 09:41:53 AM
He's an idoit. He has to sit out this entire year and then if he comes back next year he still has to serve his four game suspension. I'd love to see the league tack on a few more games next year for him being an idoit. Good football player, but a stupid person. I've followed him a little bit and thought he was doing the right thing when he walked away from the game. He never liked playing football, he did it to get out of the ghetto but after he had the money there really wasnt a reason for him to keep playing.

2004-10-06 09:43:39 AM
I'd like to take this opportunity to once again express the sentiments of an entire city:

fark you, Ditka! You gave away an entire draft for this asshat!

/slightly bitter Saints fan
//thanks, Miami, for having taken the farker off our hands.

Ricky: "I don't wanna play, too much pressure, I just wanna smoke"

NFL: "Ok, according to this piece of paper you signed, you have to pay back $8.6 million."

Ricky: "HUH? uhmmmm, which way to the locker room? where's my uniform? Let's get out there and win some games!!!"

Nothing like facing 7 years of bankruptcy to motivate someone.

How much did he have to toke before he agreed to this photo-op?

Maybe Dennis Rodman needs a roommate?

2004-10-06 10:07:57 AM
I orginally picked him on one of my fantasy teams, because he was a perfect fit. The philosophy of this team, called the Fun Lovin' Criminals is that crackheads and gangbangers make the best players. So I went to Cracksmokers of the NFL for a list of rehab veterans and accused or convicted perps and built my auto-pick list from that.

When I first saw this story, I thought about picking him up again, but doing so would be betting that he will not be suspended for the season, and I don't know how good a bet that is. But WTF, my team is 2 and 2, so I don't have much to lose.

2004-10-06 10:08:10 AM
whatever. i wouldnt want to play for miami's offense either. he might need more than a smoke after miami has him run the ball every play. heck, he might need to call jamal lewis for the hard stuff.

Elvis Nixon: Seems like old Ricky might play for the other team, pal.

He already did.

My bad.

Wouldn't it have been cheaper and easier to just flunk and take a two game suspension?

I think pot should be legal.

But smoking it, especially when it is illegal, most definitely does affect Ricky's value to his employers. He's not paid to score touchdowns, he's paid to draw an audience and sell merchandise. If the NFL feels that smoking pot is going to hurt his value in those duties, correct or incorrect, I don't think it's unreasonable to cover it in the employment contract.

It's similar to the weather girl who entered a wet t-shirt contest and was fired when pictures hit the internet. She could still look nice & point at the right parts of the map, but her contract covered things that her employer thought would hurt her real job - attracting an audience & selling commercials.

It's not fair, but I think most people would trade jobs, contractual restrictions included, with entertainers like these in a heartbeat.

2004-10-06 10:45:41 AM
bah, he just wanted a year off

2004-10-06 10:50:51 AM
shaggenstein

He ran afoul of the NFL because he did something in his free time that has nothing to do with his actions on the field.

So, by that rationale, it would be okay if he was raping and murdering - as long as it was on his own time? Last time I checked, smoking pot is an illegal activity.

2004-10-06 10:50:58 AM
While Ricky's move was a bone-headed one. Really who would want to rush behind the Dolphins line? Okay how many running backs are currently injured on Miami? I wonder who really won't be in Miami next year Ricky or Dave...

Ricky! You got some splainin to do!!!

2004-10-06 10:57:46 AM
My dad and I had a discussion, albiet a brief one, about who in pro football would have Maurice Clarett after all the babyboy whining he did... I think Ricky Williams would best fit in with the Cowboys, too.

2004-10-06 11:09:45 AM
He might come back next year. He will be prohibited from playing this year because he failed the NFL drug test(s) during the summer which would have suspended him if he stayed in the league. He left to avoid the suspension. And to get high.

2004-10-06 11:11:50 AM
all he has to do to win back fans is to make a tearful apology about how he's disappointed the fans, league, team, etc. all while detailing the agony of addiction and his social anxiety; america loves the fallen hero trying to get back to the path of virtue stuff.

/always remembers him in a longhorn uniform

2004-10-06 11:17:01 AM
What he did was obviously stupid, but if he comes back now, nothing is different than if he hadn't left in the first place. He was gonna be suspended anyways. Miami sucks without him. They need to get over it and take him back.

2004-10-06 11:22:52 AM

It's not that I'm even sure it's possible, but I'm an optimistic Fins fan (I think you have to be an optimist to stay a Fins fan for as long as I have, oy). By solid back I don't even mean close to Ricky's calibur on the feild, just someone who can put up consistent numbers. Ricky was the Dolphins' entire offense. Maybe there is another team out there with some offensive production who can afford to take the risk on Williams, who could turn out to be nothing or could return to his previous numbers. I don't know, it's just wishful thinking.

Ah well, at least the Eagles are 4-0. Usually my two teams don't both suck in the same year, glad to see that's holding up. Go Birds.

2004-10-06 11:32:29 AM
I thought that smoking pot was supposed to give you no ambition in life. Unless your ambition is to get high. Ricky has too much on his mind. He needs to concentrate on one thing at a time.
I was actually kind of suprised that he could remember plays. The last time I got high, I couldn't remember where I parked my car...like I needed to be driving anyway.

2004-10-06 11:34:01 AM
Aw... He just lost his good hook-up thats all. There is a drought right now.

2004-10-06 11:42:35 AM
While on one hand I can thank RW for guaranteeing the Pats 2 more wins, I hope the Fins take RW to the cleaners. Hopefully they can find a sucker (Redskins or Faiders anyone?) to take him off their hands.

2004-10-06 11:54:51 AM
...Only because his plans to hide out in Seymour Arm, British Columbia were suddenly cancelled

2004-10-06 11:59:22 AM
I'd have to disagree. Sitting on the couch, smoking pot is probably about as important as playing football.
