Hardly big news, since this episode has been repeated many times already. But it's still a great interview of a creative mind taken from us too soon.

Wow. I gotta subscribe to TechTV.

This and Drew Curtis on The Screen Savers at 7:30pm (EST) every Friday.

He was the very first writer I took any notice of, and thus he became my first writing influence. Books were just things to read, until I first picked up Hitchhikers. After it, I wanted to write one...

And to think, I started reading the Good Book completely on accident.

I agree with yah, ShortFatGuy...he was taken from us way too soon.

But, hopefully, he's got his towel and is kickin' back at Milliways.

Maybe now he "Knows the Meaning of Life, and Everything".

I just read Hitchiker's guide recently, when I got a 50 dollar gift card to barnes and noble for xmas. Funniest book I've ever read, also helped me on my way to being a nerd. I'm also halfway through Lord of teh Rings, and plan on reading Dune next. I'll be a Wil Wheaton-esque nerd ass in no time.

So long Doug, and thanks for all the fish...

Did he write anything else other than HHGTTG and Dirk Gentley???

Dev2r - yah:

"Last Chance to See" - a sort of travelometary.

"The meaning of Liff" & "The deeper meaning of Liff" - two, uh, "dictionaries" defining place names, actually.

Some shorts, such as "Zaphod plays it safe", or one involving Khan and the immortal dude from HHGTTG, and some articles.

The Liff ones are worth reading ... other than that ... feh. (Mind: 5 HHGTTGs, 2 Gentleys)

I think you ought to know I am feeling rather depressed today

Hey...does this get a sad tag because calling Douglas Adams a big thinker is sad, or is it just me?

died on my birthday.

Try here:

Oh, and it's "Gently", not "Gentley" :)

Thanx, Labberdasher.

My link. (finally!) I tagged it SAD 'cause his untimely passing made me sad. So there. Actually, I've been pretty impressed with the lineup of interviewees on Big Thinkers. Alvin Toffler and John Gage recently, Tim Berners-Lee awhile back. Michaela Perera could probably just interview a sock puppet, and I'd still watch. Yum.

Good thing I have my towel with me to wipe away the tears.

if he were alive, i'd punch him in the face for writting mostly harmless.
i know the first two were the greatest things i've ever read, but that doesn't excuse M.H.

He's more good dead than you are alive.
