"The faculty's not a big drinking group, and so we had the mixed margarita together -- the tequila and the mix... The majority of the kids pushed it away, saying, 'We don't like the smell,' and didn't even taste it."

I am proud of the kids. Anyone who drinks premixed margaritas prolly also drinks diesel. Shame on the teachers.

Teachers probably used some cheap ass tequila like "Cuervo" ...

How come cool crap like that couldn't happen when I was in grade school?

But on the first day of school, the milk supply ran out after two lunch periods, so students were served what an employee thought was limeade.

Yeah, right. Sounds like "an employee" was having a bit of fun.

I doubt the kids were tequila snobs, like yourself. Kids usually only like food that is square or shaped like a cartoon character - not exactly liquor connoisseurs.

I used to play that school in basketball. That's crazy, that school is right by my house. Small world.

I love how they talk about 'exposure' to alcohol. Its not like they just got Cholera or anything.

/overreaction rules.

The funniest part about this is that the school in question is one of the D.C. area's elite private institutions. I just to live just down the road from it.

/would have sent my kids there if we'd stayed in the neighborhood and I made 3x what I do now.

EXPOSURE TO PRE-MIXED MARGARITAS!!!

WHAT TIME WILL THE GRIEF COUNSELORS BE HERE??!!!??

2004-09-30 10:35:43 AM
Wow, parent group leader stated it was an unfortunate accident and there was no word of lawsuits. What is this world coming to when the elite won't sue over an incident that harmed no one.

What happened to this story yesterday? I was reading it at work, and by the time I got home the thread had vanished from Fark. Did the whole thing get banninated for some reason?

I'm surprised they actually allowed the teachers to have alcohol in the school to begin with, whether or not kids were present. Most workplaces don't allow it because of liability, especially something like a school.

School officials say they acted quickly, checking students' medical and religious records to insure there weren't problems.

Wow. Let's all make a big deal over kids taking a sip of a mixed drink. Dumbass uptight parent assholes.

If you read the letter the students brought home, you'll see it says the margaritas came from a "before-school" faculty get-together? Unless things have changed since I was a kid, school starts around 8 am. Who the fark is drinking margaritas before 8 am?

/I mean besides me.

2004-09-30 10:45:18 AM
I'm assuming this was on taco day, with teh good cinammon rolls?

2004-09-30 10:46:13 AM
before school = days prior to the opening of school.

But still, this is a workplace, and there's no way any school I've ever worked in would allow alcohol on site, school in or out. Liability's too great. A teacher can't even have a pocket knife.

My impression was that "before school" meant in the days before school started. Teachers went a week or two early to set up the rooms, and a day or two before school started, they had a party.

Happened at my bro's house. They would serve kids the mixer alone for "virgin" margs. At my niece's party, they were serving the kiddies until they realized that they'd bought mix with the booze inside.

DOH!

Nap time got an early start that day...

In a later press statement, School Nurse Ratchet said that the children had not taken their afternoon Pedialudes[tm] and so were not in risk of dangerous alcohol/med interactions.

Will the students be suspended for being exposed to alcohol?

If this was at one of those 'zero-tolerance' public schools they probably would have been arrested and expelled. Executed even!

dooder0001.. if you RTFA, you'd know that they parents are not being uptight and assholes. There is a quote in the article from the essentially the President of PTA who praised the school for being honest right up front...

Does anyone but me find it odd that the teachers had a pitcher of margaritas in the back of the fridge large enough to serve 3, count em 3 grades of school kids. My god that pitcher must have been the size of VW.

2004-09-30 11:59:13 AM
I would only worry about those kids who slammed it down and went back for more.

Bottoms up.

Prinicipal Buffett merely replied "Some people claim there's a woman to blame but I know its my own damn fault."
